Kid Creole and the Coconuts

Kid Creole and the Coconuts

Welcome to Kid Creole and the Coconuts Official KZread Channel
Kid Creole and the Coconuts was born out of the red hot embers of DR BUZZARD’S ORIGINAL SAVANNAH BAND. In the 1970’s the Savannah Band had successfully merged the big band sound of the 1940’s (Duke Ellington, Cab Calloway, Artie Shaw, Count Basie, Louis Prima) with the dance floor beat of the disco era. The Kid fused the big band sound with every strain under the sun - calypso, soca, salsa, rhythm and blues, soul, jazz, funk, hip-hop, etc… with a strong accent on Caribbeanism. Kid Creole and the Coconuts thus became pioneers of what became known as mongrel music. In other words - a delicious but strange potpourri of goodness.

Quel groupe enthousiasmant. Quel spectacle ! Des Coconuts, qui ne sont sont pas des potiches, aussi talentueuses que belles. Le spectacle est partout : Kid Creole, Coati Mundi, les Coconuts, les musiciens...

This footage is the "Live at the Ritz 1982" but in great quality! Put that up instead of the poor version. It's a fantastic show!

Discovered them through their work with Prince and was instantly hooked...went out and found all their old records, and dug them all. Never got the chance to see them live, and now it feels as if that chance might never happen, but still holding out hope that they'll hit the U.S. again for they call it quits and I'll get lucky to see them perform.
