Six Sigma philosophy is no joke responsible for the modern world of consumer products you are likely living in. It's incredibly powerful stuff, necessary for mass producing products that don't fail and harm people. It's easy to make jokes about it because it's so wonky, but it is really, really powerful stuff. It's also way less absurd than what you see characterized in 30 Rock, which is a hilarious episode nonetheless.

Why has every corporation that has adopted Six Sigma gone into the dumpster? GE for one. Motorola for another. Destroy variability and you destroy innovation. Reminds me of the movie DOCTOR ZHIVAGO when they were riding in a buggy along a wheat field, and he takes his buggy whip out and swings it to chop/prune one that is taller than the others. Six Sigma sucks and is a tool of corporate sadists. Want to destroy your company? Hire a Six Sigma Black Belt as CTO or COO. Employees will rightfully jump ship to find a company doing Agile and/or Theory of Constraints.

Jack went at the happiness issue the same way he works on all other problems - by leaving emotions at the door and following through on a logical plan. Except happiness is an emotion. Towards the end of the series he starts to really reflect on his situation but instead of the breakdown leading to a breakthrough, he again doubles down on the old pattern of chasing goals, thus depriving himself of deeper insight into life. You didn't ask to read this on your 30 Rock clips binge but now you have. Oh well.
