    I have a dd3 that works, however, the selector switch goes through all modes before it reaches the second “click”. Making it so I have to carefully turn the knob to where I need it, and hope it doesn’t move while playing. I have absolutely no experience with electronics but am wondering how hard it would be to fix this myself, or if I should just bring it in somewhere

    My guess is the control itself has a mechanical issue and would need to be replaced. Soldering would be required, but not hard otherwise. Finding a nee part may be difficult.

I triés this pédal with a classic 30 peavey and thé pédal only Works if you let your feet on it hold thé effect, but Nevers in on or off mode, it seems that thé Switch IS dead but Can this issue blow an AMP fuse ?? • @mevmevmev

    If the amp is all tube, it seems unlikely the pedal could cause the amp fuse to blow. Does the amp work after replacing the fuse? If amp is solid state, there is a chance an extreme transient from a defect in a pedal could damage a component in the amp which could then cause a fuse to blow.

    Am i correct in assuming that ifni get the same reading on 2 different 6v6 tubes, for instance, that they are 'matched' for use in a push pull guitar amp. Thanks for any insight. Ive asked this q on dozens of videos and have never gotten an answer

  • @mevmevmev

    I don't think so. This tested does not proved a high voltage to the plate as it would in an amplifier. I believe the preffered matching uses similar voltage as an amp and measures current.

    I have an MKII HD100 head that was incorrectly diagnosed having tube issues. Volume fluctuation and distortion cutting in and out. The power amp is good. Local repair shop finally came to conclusion that it's the digital board. They randomly tapped the board listening for different sounds . Nothing like what you're doing here. Supposedly they're an authorized repair shop. I think they basically guessed about the board knowing I wasn't about to throw much more into this money pit. • @mevmevmev

    I believe it is the current flowing out of the plate. That is why it takes time after you first plug in the tube and shows nothing until the filament warms up the cathode which allows the electrons to jump from the cathode to plate. Without this working, the tube won't be able to amplify so at least the tester shows if the main function of the tube is working.

    The input jack is part of a small pcb assembly which I think includes an op-amp. Usually if an amplifier fails it is not just weak output but no output or very distorted sound. I would plug in headphones to see if that output works. If it does, it may be the switching contact in the headphone jack which mutes the speakers is not making contact when the headphones are unplugged. Sometimes just plugging in and unplugging multiple times can self clean the contacts enough to work for a while. Also, toggle the function switch back and forth for similar reasons..

  • @mevmevmev
    @mevmevmev2 жыл бұрын

    @@Lovelydeck Based on that, I think it is very likely the main volume control. Mine was in bad shape even after cleaning. I just replaced it and now the left and right are very stable. The original part may be impossible to find. I ended up having to replace it with one that doesn't have an on/off switch. Now to turn it off I have to unplug power supply, though I could add a dedicate power switch. One way to test if the amplifier works: There is a gray and black cable on the connector at the upper left of the screen at 4:38 in the video. The red wire from each is the left and right source audio signal, and the white from each is the left and right input to the amplifier. The orange and brown wire turn the power on when shorted together. You may be able to test the left channel by turning up the volume, then shorting the red and white wire coming out of the gray cable. It should force signal to the amplifier. If it works, that would confirm the volume control is bad. If it doesn't work it may actually be the amplifier circuit is bad. Basically a lot of work for a cheap radio, but it looks nice!

    Is it a Spider Valve 112 amp? If yes is it the MC7805 shown at 6:29? or the LM1086 shown at 7:20? or other? These options would likely work, however it is possible something else is also damaged which could cause the replacement part to fail. For this reason I often buy more than 1 replacement. If you are not familiar with how to safely work on high voltage tube amps. Learn that first.. Digikey part number for the 7805: MC7805CT-BPMS-ND Digikey part number for the LM1086: 2156-LM1086CT-ADJ-ND The 7805 gets very hot. I have a heatsink mod video to help increase the 7805 lifespan: rumble.com/vlnc5f-line-6-spider-valve-112-custom-5v-regulator-heat-sink006.html

    Is there a way to bypass the effects completely, and just make it a plain pre and post tube amp?
