Great job pushing through the pain and suffering. It may hurt like hell but finishing that climb is an awesome accomplishment!
@@slinspection now that it’s over I’m happy I stuck through.
I'm definitely going to try this seems to be fun thanks for the inspiration 😅
@@TimothyKelly-u9y maybe spring or fall. Not summertime.
Very helpful. I have been having a hard time getting the right Lake shoes. I heard if you mold them, it is really hard to walk to coffee shop or change a flat. Is that true?
@@fariximus8993 I don’t understand. How would the fit if the shoe affect your ability to change a flat tire? I’m not sure where you heard this.
@@cyclinginsoutherncalifornia I meant to say that molding the shoes makes it comfortable to ride but it would be very uncomfortable to walk even a short distance to a coffee shop or if you have to change flat.
@@fariximus8993 I haven’t heard of that. When I change a flat, I’m just standing, not walking. Coffee stops aren’t a big thing for me, so I wouldn’t know. I personally feel comfortable in mine for the limited walking that I do… I mean… I don’t really walk a lot on my cycling shoes.
Pirelli Cinturato Velo, a bit better rolling resistant and puncture resistant than the Gatorskins.
@@mitchpaliga4851 cool!!!
What model are the giro gloves? I like a firm pad
@@kurtbridge5560 it’s the brand. They make great gloves. It’s an old video so they unlikely make the same model.
@@cyclinginsoutherncalifornia think they Giro Strade Dure Supergel just ordered some 👍 had ulnar nerve problems

I'll ask my laundry doing person (me) to do this for me, great tip!

I just did Goleta, Carpinteria, Goleta… yesterday and today. Such a fun ride.
@@tobarragl awesome!!!!
Words cannot describe how perfect this video was 🎉
great video, I am 60 and just got the same Lake shoes and ordered the Patrocleats. Do you have to go back the full 24mm???
@@garysbraccia4980 I did.
Best saddle ever, bar none. My girlfriend wants to lose weight because the pressures of society constantly bombarding females with an unrealistic unhuman and unhealthy attitude and lifestyle about weight, from the time they are born till the grave. Not because it's healthy.
Hi, Which Hunt model did you purchase?
@@robertwolstein8111 the name of it is in the title of the video.
What about the air pressure leg massage boots? Those things works or not
Ahhh the sweet reward for all that climbing!
@@RoyImahara heck yeah!!
Great run, what speeds where you typically seeing?
@@davidg2731 max speed was 45 mph so not super fast, but I tell my wife 15.

The roads I loved driving as a kid/young adult, give me anxiety now. Watching you and cars in some if those turns ratcheted up that feeling.
@@garyanderson9514 The goal is to manage my anxiety and stress on the downhill such that you don’t crash. Ha ha.
@@cyclinginsoutherncalifornia makes total sense - You must NOT crash!
At 8:24 you passed the Mt Baldy Lodge, where Safa Brian and Isabel King made a very popular cycling video. By typing in her name in YT you should find it. Have you tried that route? 🙂
@@hanswurst-gp7pi yes. We came up that route. See previous video.
@@cyclinginsoutherncalifornia Oh great, didn't know that!
AWESOME!!
Great video, thanks! It would be nice to see more videos where you film the road ahead of you - that way we can enjoy the beautiful scenery even more. How do you think about that? Have a good day 🙂
@@hanswurst-gp7pi good idea. I will do it.
@@cyclinginsoutherncalifornia Thank you! Looking forward to it :)
There's alot of info missing. I hear alot of it seems this it seems that. You are missing the most important info "the quality of fabric" and the differences of the fabric. You are simply describing what you see. I can do that. What is the difference in the PAD quality? What is the difference in materials? Need more details.
@@mariorossi2734 buy the Castelli if you want high quality fabric and an excellent chamois.
I was the race promoter for the Mount Baldy Hillclimb back in the late 80's - early 1990's It is a beast of a climb.. The original hillclimb started on the Upland side and rode up Euclid to Shinn road to mount baldy. The first climb of one mile warms you up.. Official start was by the fire station located at 24th and Euclid ave - then you climb all the way to the ski lifts sign.. It was 12.6 miles and in all those years only 2 people ever broke one hour - Hillclimb specialist Tom Resh from Redlands has the record at 56 minues - he rode it that year with a 39x21 as his lowest gear. Then a few years after that Ned Overend broken one hour with 59 minutes and many years winning times would be in the 1:03 to 1:07 time range. If you broke 1:30 that was quite the accomplishment. The last 3 miles when you turn up the switchbacks will take everything you have.
@@ErikPipins it took everything I had plus 10%
when is this supported ride happening again? I live in Massachussetts but have friends near Mt. Baldy and have been wanting to do this climb for awhile now!
@@chesterules 1. Heck the PAA website and also occasionally GMR is closed to motorists. Look for those days and go then. There was hardly any traffic anyway, but it’s nice to have ZERO. I’d suggest fall or spring, not summer.
Great video! And congrats on making it. Can't imagine what it is like, but I do remember the high desert in CA. Now in MD, I'll use this as inspiration to ride a century later this year. Thx.

C Mon you can do 115 degrees
After 50, the ground comes up faster and harder than when I was 20.
Was just thinking pathfinder or Sawtooth on my 2007 Crux and saw your video. My bike can take 40mm and even 42 with a very straight wheel. So I ordered 38 rear and 42 front sawtooth. Now I need to try the pathfinder
I found your channel because of this review. I have not quite pulled the plug on a pair of these lakes. But every time I get home after a hot day in the saddle, and my Morton’s neuroma is acting up. I will almost pay anything for a pair of shoes that will fit right in the toe box.
@@michaelgreen6592 neuromas suck
I bicycle commute around 400 miles a month year round in western Oregon. I have the same feelings when riding. It is such a stress reliever!!! When I am at work I think about the commute home! Even though it is the same route, I look forward to the ride home ( of course I enjoy the ride to work also).
@@michaelgreen6592 think of how healthy you are mentally and physically. Now imagine commuting via car…
I do sometimes-- I will never go back!!! I will avoid it like the plague!
@@michaelgreen6592 I try to commute via bike, but it depends on the weather. If it is raining or too hot, nobody likes a sweaty or wet chiropractor…
I’m a diesel mechanic--- no body cares… lol😂. The only thing my co-workers seem to care about is if they have seen me riding with “ spandex “ on….😂
Can you replace the hub on that to a quieter one? Actually looking into these.
@@Kingloui10 I like the sound. In theory you could change it, but that’s an added expense I didn’t want to pay.
Epic ride! I've gone up to the lifts once, done the loop to the village many times and its always fantastic to finish. During the climbs though, I always have my doubts though. LOL
I’m going to do it again in the future, but only if the weather is better.
Just don't ride in the rain with it.
Most shoes give you three sizes, european, US and centimeters. I have better luck going from brand to brand using the centimeter sizing. I'm a 43 in Lake, 43.5 in Sidi, 9.5 in Ascis, 10 in Adidas, 10 in Puma. Lake are fantastic, I have the MX237 wide.
Great job! I made it up about halfway and when I got home, I put on a larger cassette!
That's why I brought my Crux. 34-36 instead of my road bike which has 34-28. Ugh.
That was disappointing. I was hoping to see what the ride looked like, or at least a reasonable description of how I can find these places (names I'm not familiar with). A Stava or RideGPS route link would have been cool, too. Spending most of the video pimping a product is why you just lost me as a subscriber.
Oh well. Can't please everyone.
You can't see because the sweat is in your eyes so ditch the helmet and wear a cap. I'm sure you could have paid someone a couple of bucks to take your helmet to the top so you would have it for the descend or just carry it your handlebars. The cap works to channel the sweat off your face. I can't wear a helmet in the summer because I sweat like a water tap.
Great help friend, thanks.
I could endure the climb and the heat; but the biting bugs would have been a dealbreaker for me. Just couldn't handle a distraction like that.
2 weeks later and I still had bites that were itching. It sucked.
That's what they sell bug spay for.
@@charlesmansplaining There was no Rite Aid on My Baldy.
RESPECT!! Thanks for dealing with the steep ascent, heat, and flies to show us suffering in real time! Great video!
Thank you!
🤣🤣🤣 reminded me of my first time riding this 🤘
I’d like to do it when it’s cooler.
That looked like hell!
It was awful but I survived.
Good job finishing! That is a super tuff ride even in perfect conditions.
It sucked but that’s what makes good videos I guess.
@@cyclinginsoutherncalifornia Yes. But you indicated you would do it again in the future. So that is the question that needs an answer. Why?
@@Coloradorider400 I think because under the right conditions, it could probably be an awesome day (weather, no bugs, they close the road to motorists some days, etc)
@@cyclinginsoutherncalifornia I think it's because you are a little nuts. I know because I think I am. The suffering does something for you?
Mt Baldy is a great ride. We went up the dirt road in the end with our MTB's a couple years ago. Beautiful, amazing scenery but very hot indeed. Great videos by the way, thanks!
Thank you very much. I’d like to do it again if it’s cooler.
Didn't realize you were on this ride! It was hot as hell but fun.
Was that a base layer you were wearing during the ride? Must be a special one for heat.
thanks for this review!
No problem!
Enjoy your videos a lot! California is a great place to ride your bike. Greetings from Germany! :)
Thanks for that. You should see the video that just came out. It’s awesome!
There are two holes. One is 50% deeper than the other. When the first divot disappears, your tires are 50% worn out. When both holes (divots) are gone, you tires are done.
Cool.
Hard shell suck… new tires less than 20 miles and have already 4-5 flats in less than a month 🤦♂️… Switching tires asap
