I am a musician, songwriter, and audio engineer. I have a degree in audio engineering and have worked as an engineer in commercial studios and sound reinforcement over the years. I have produced and/or engineered tons of projects, some for commercial release. My channel mainly contains things that relate to music or audio, but the occasional vintage computer video might pop up as well as vintage audio/recording equipment related videos.

Nice mixes, Man. Love sound you got on those acoustic guitar tracks that you bounced thru FX.
Grady !!! Hopefully won't be too long before your back . We love your content !!!
Thank you! I just have to move and buying and selling houses etc takes awhile. It could be later this fall or spring before I have a place film again.
Hey! Wow man, you are rocking my forst home studio setup! a Mackie 32 8 bus , which i still have, and a Tascam MSR16 which unfortunately I gave away- Wish I still had it if. Nice video man!
Thank you! It's a good sounding setup. I have an Otari I need to finish restoring too plus my digital system with the Soundcraft. I'm moving right now so it will be awhile before I'm back.
Thank you very much for your Videos ! Its good to have a community with peoples who have the seame Gear ! I have too this Mackie Console and i also have a Tascam 1" 24Track Machine, wondering if the Tascam will still work, i boght in 2008 but barely never used... 😞 Soon i will test the Tascam if its still working.
They are usually very reliable machines. My MSR-16 mainly needed new rubber parts like the sound roller and pinch roller. These can be bought new from Athan. I replaced both on my MSR-16. The S versions of these machine sometimes have bad Dolby S chips that cannot be replaced because they aren't available though
@@TwinCreekAudio Thank you very much for your reply and for the tipp where to get the replacement rubber parts by Athan !
I have also this Console and i am a big Fan of this Mackie Console !!!
bro, i cant get the 8000 version to work. all i hear is static. i got it going from ultragain to mixer to back to daw. i reconnected everything. i will make a video on my other channel and send link if you respond to this one. maybe you can help.
I'm not sure what's going on there. The 8000 may not support the same sample rates or there's a problem with how the driver on your interface works with ADAT?
I wish you the best! Some changes came to us, for better times! Your channel is amazing, your vídeos...a very good material. Great hug!
Thank you! I am moving and keeping most of my gear. I hope to make more videos soon
En Français ça serait mieux ?
il est vrai que
Just got a mackie 24.8. Would really like to see a video with how to hook it up using a patchbay. Love these videos man. You are the only one on the tube with clarity for the new comers to analog with full details. Keep em coming.
It's a good console. I'm in the process of moving my studio. Hopefully I'll be able to make more videos with the Mackie 8 Bus after the move.
sorry to hear this. hopefully everything works out. im here for the analog setup. thanks bud.
Thank you! Hoping to be back making videos later this year after the move. I've made a lot of analog setup videos over the last 5 years.
How is the moth 828? I’m looking to connect to my Clarett for more I/O . Does it need software install or can I use the ADAT? I’m also using Mac OSX Ventura .
@@Ilikethatmusic_typebeats it needs a software mixer to use and I was never able to get it to work as an extra set of ADAT inputs. It works fine on older Macs but you have to use it as the interface with something else connected to it's ADAT ports for extra channels. These were very good interfaces that were well supported for a very long time, but they are getting a bit old and driver support is less than it was on newer OS. I think the Mark II and beyond should work as an extra set of inputs from what I've read but I have not personally tried it.
@@TwinCreekAudioI guess there’s no need of wasting my time and money if I can’t get it to work the way I want it to. I will probably look to the newer one in the near future. Thanks for your help as always .
@@Ilikethatmusic_typebeats you're welcome! I do like MOTU interfaces and I think the newer versions with a software mixer will work the way you want. The original 828 doesn't have some of the DSP hardware needed to run Cue Mix etc.
Sound like synth but is at the end microsampling - that square in the top right is the waveform that can be drawn by the user
I bought a Mackie Onyx 4880 a while ago that was sitting in the church, what do you tell me about the sound and components used in the construction, are they related to the 8 buss?
@@raphaelfeitoza2756 those are a newer model that's designed for live sound. I don't think many of the circuits carried over from the older 8 Bus but the Onyx consoles are still good. It may even have a slightly cleaner sound.
Just found your channel, subbed then came over to check out the other vid's, Its cool your not giving up youtube In the meantime at least I have plenty to catch up on in the meantime, I'm forward to your return already.
@@mikerichardsonuk thank you! I'm really looking forward to setting up a new studio and making videos again.
Interesting video, thanks.
@@TheOriginalCoda thank you!
Don't do subscriptions! If you want software, buy it outright, or walk away.
@@TheOriginalCoda I agree 100% Thank you!
I was wondering, do you have stems of some of your tracks you would upload for people to have fun mixing ? I'd love to run some material through my daw/units.
@@theCarouselPainter I have a lot of material I could use for that. I've thought about doing that before and may look into it after I finish moving and have time. Thanks so much for your interest!
Hey Grady, what converter(s) do you use?
Nothing expensive or exotic here. Echo Audio fires and MOTU 828 although sometimes I used an Audient interface but it mostly it's the old Echo and MOTU interfaces.
@@TwinCreekAudio 👌 And how many i/os do you have in total?
@@theCarouselPainter I have 2 systems here, one is 16 IO and the other is 24 IO. I typically use the smaller one for video demos with mixers etc while the 24 IO setup is connected to Soundcraft as that's my main working setup. They are a combination of Echo and MOTU interfaces.
Lucky enough to own a 32:8 with a working meter bridge. This mixer is notorious in mid/late nineties drum and bass.
@@Strafuzz I like them a lot. I used them for a lot of 90s rock back in the 90s too.
Hey friend...i hope everything is going well for you. Best wishes to you...
@@philipcarroll7151 thank you. Everything is going well. Moving is a lot of work and takes a lot of time.
Thank you for these videos! Curious to know where/how do you print the final mix to?
Usually the console outputs go to a pair of balanced inputs on one of the audio interfaces at 48k 24 bit. I don't remember which interface but it was either an Echo or MOTU. Nothing exotic or expensive.
@@TwinCreekAudio Thanks for the reply. I have a few mixdown options, Yamaha 4-Track Cassette, Fostex Model 80, 8-Track 7" Reel, or Digital Interface for mastering and release (or all of them just for kicks). Right now looking for a decent 16 I/O converter for my 16 channel Fostex Model 450, RCA inputs like your hybrid setup.
En que año se fabrico?

Hi does anyone know how to mod the channels so that they are Post fade into DAW
There are jumpers on the channel cards to rearrange some of the sends this way. I couldn't tell you about any mods but I would check the manual to see if the jumpers will change that option.
Great video! Thanks for this!
Thank you!
Great video! BTW I got an R8 and I do just the opposite, my DAW is the master and the open reel is the slave, syncing with the 4030 synchro, with a perfect match
I didn't have a synchronizer or I would have done it that way. I'm sure it's much more flexible.
I had one b4 it was a nice guitar still think the classic vibe is equal to it
I like those classic vibe series too
That is a thing of beauty. It's really a shame they don't make them like that anymore.. Everything is "live" mixers now unless you want to spend $15k+ for a pro recording console.
Unfortunately that's true. There are plenty of good used analog recoding consoles around though. I definitely don't want a console with an interface built in either. That part of audio technology moves too quickly and makes things like FireWire mixers obsolete at just a few years old.
do you mix commercially? and if you do how much per mix?
@@stanleyassor3172 I do but I am currently moving my studio so it will be several months before I can take any mixing work. The pricing is on a case by case basis. I need to know what is needed to come up with an estimate. Once I have finished moving, I'll have more information about the new studio as well.
@@TwinCreekAudio Thanks, will be waiting. But just so you know, i produce itb and leave all editing and mixing for the mix engineer. I prefer analog to digital sound and must say i love what i'm hearing from your end. Thanks
Is the side chain stereo as well
@@montanamaxxamillion the way it's wired it has to be mono but it's a stereo compressor without a mono mode and the left and right settings, side chain etc would all be matching anyway.
Love it !
Thank you! I'll be back with more tape machines and analog gear after I finish moving.
Just got a console so this is really helpful. Thank you.
I'm glad you found the video helpful. I have made quite a few videos about analog consoles and tape machines of different kinds. I'll be back with new videos in the Fall after I finish moving.
@@TwinCreekAudio what a coincidence we starting the moving process too. So much fun. I’ll be watching them all. Gotten to the point I want to start producing other artist and want to do most of it from a home studio. I’m about to release my 20th record and haven’t learned anything about recording. Time to change that. Good luck on the move. 🫡
@@JacksonTaylorandTheSinners thank you! Good luck to you as well! I'll be back with new videos before too long hopefully.
Wow loving this vid! So many try to get the best of the best $3k to $5k hardware units a piece when youve found and got quality gear all for under $2000
Good used analog gear has never been less expensive. This gear was made to last and sound great. I doubt a lot of modern gear will last as long.
@@TwinCreekAudio Awesome comment. Definitely subscribed. Loving the content!
Hey Grady! I hope all is well with you! Quick question about my analog Mackie 32-8 Bus console.,Let’s say I don’t have an outboard EQ on the Main Mix Out/Inserts. Could I run back into two channels, and use the EQ on the Channels as the two Buss EQ? If so, what’s the best way to do that, and where would I put my two buss compressor in that scenario?
You could patch the master insert sends L and R to the line inputs if a pair of channels and use the channel direct outs to connect back to the master inserts return. You can put the compressor either before or after the EQ in the chain depending on your preference. Don't assign the channels you use to the buses or LR mix at all. This will work but there could be some crosstalk or other issues. You can certainly try it and see how it works.
@@TwinCreekAudio Wow! Thanks Grady! I’ll definitely give this method a try, and after I commented here, I was also thinking this other method of taking the main mix out of the 8-Buss, and into two channels of my Mackie 1640i, (which I use as the interface)putting the two Bus Compressor in the main mix inserts of the 1640i, and use main out of the 1640i to go into a tape machine. That way possibly crosstalk, and noise could be avoided. Do you think my idea is good ? Again, I thought of that after sending you this question. Lol
@@The-Jim-Miller-Project you could also patch the compressor between the 8 Bus main LR outs and the 1640i inputs. Either way might work but the best way is to try different ways until you're happy with the workflow and sound.
@@TwinCreekAudio I truly appreciate you my friend! I hope all is well, and have a great 4th holiday. Looking forward to seeing more of your excellent vids! Thank you again Grady!
These consoles are dope! I Owned both the 32x8 and 24E. They're super quiet, very warm analog sound. No issue with the top mounted jacks, no dust getting in there because every 8 channels had an 8 channel 1/4" snake connected to it. All direct outs went into 4 seperate Pro Tools interfaces. Back then I was using the Pro Tools Mix System. Btw, the eq's on this Console aren't bad at all. Don't expect SSL J Series sound but they do a great job especially for the price. These days you can't even find a great analog console with direct outs. I'm a big fan of these boards till this day.
I agree and I think the Mackie 8 Bus is one of the best of its kind. I made a lot of great records with them back in the 90s and this one is a cool addition to my studio.
Is the Otar still available? I am looking to upgrading to 1” 16 tracks. Sad to see this video but have been in the same boat plenty of times. Hope all is well and thanks for the very informative video series. Thanks, cheers!
Thank you! I am not selling everything so the Otari is not for sale. I might sell it one day but it's going to the new studio so I can finish restoring it. I wouldn't want to sell a non working machine. I also have a Tascam MSR-16 but I'm planning to keep both of my tape machines and downsize the console though it's looking like I might keep it too. Thanks again!
How to get echo for mic ?
Use an Aux send to send the signal to a processing device and then return the output of the processor to an effects return or line input on a channel and route to the master with LR button.
Thanks for showing the oil tubes in the 80-8... not sure if mine has them or not. There were a lot of revisions on this deck so may need to look further. What oil do you use or purchase? If you don’t mind me asking?
I read on forums to use synthetic 0/20 motor oil so I bought some at Auto Zone and used a syringe to oil the motor.
