I think a lot of her songs on TTPD are braided poetry. I looked it up and this is what Google tells me: “A braided piece is one that uses different strands - usually three separate story lines or topics, alternating topics sequentially between each of the three lines." She's been wearing the braids for this era and I feel like so many songs could be referencing multiple situations. I think you touched on that a bit too. I'd love to hear your breakdown of any/all of them. I think it is so interesting to hear what people are getting from her songs/poetry ☺

New Swiftie here, love your videos by the way. I'm not sure if this has been discussed but it's about Grammy nomination. I feel she wants TTPD to be nominated for album of the year and she will want Rep TV nominated for album of the year as well. If you do a google search about when the cut off date is for the 2025 Grammys it's the end of August 2024. For a rerecorded album there has to be a percentage of new songs, so she could probably the lost Karma album. I feel she really wants reputation to at least get Album of the year nomination so she will wait until after Sept 1st and there will be a ton of "vault"/lost Karma album songs to make Rep TV eligible for at least a nomination and hopefully a Grammy. I may be clowning. And this theory may have been already discussed. I would also like to say Nov 10, 2024 is 7years from the original release. Just my thoughts. 🤡 Keep up your videos and good work, I love them!!

ooooooh i didn't really get this song before, but this breakdown made me love this song more <3 btw i have my own double take on 'quiet treason' 1) if she's talking about Joe, it could mean that he never really talked about his feelings or their relationship issues like where their relationship is going, how can they make it better, etc, cuz obviously Taylor wanted to fix it, but the fact that HE didn't want to say things out loud eventually brought their relationship to its end 2) if she's talking about Matty, it could mean that he disappeared without any explanation after promising her everything she wanted, and the fact that he didn't even say anything to her in the end (no why's, no sorry's, nothing) could be the 'quiet treason' she's talking about, like he betrayed her by not giving a reason for his ghosting not that i know anything about what really went on in these two relationships lol

I'm really curious if she genuinely wanted to get married OR if she was attracted to the fairy tale/Disney princess idea of getting married and living happily ever after OR if finding "the one" and getting married was the only dream that girls of her generation were allowed to/taught to have OR a combination of all of the above... I'm 7 years younger than her, and when I was growing up, the idea of getting married and being a mother was so ingrained in my brain from a very young age by my family, the media, religion, etc. I almost wonder if the image of her being chained up in a wedding dress is linked to the part in Lavender Haze (also a track 1) that goes, "All they keep asking me / Is if I'm gonna be your bride / The only kinda girl they see / Is a one night or a wife." I imagine this imagery is her trying to break out of this pressure society puts on women to get married. I imagine she is trying to just be herself rather than what is expected of her.

I think Florida is a metaphor for Matty Healy. I think that when she is singing about Florida, she is talking about Matty.

To me, the psych ward was her dragging a$$ at the end and/or directly after the relationship with Joe, so she took the "miracle move-on drug" which was the Forget Him (Joe) Pills. We all know the easiest way to get over a past relationship is to start a new one (Matty), and I swear the symbolism of the reveal of Post's face tattoos represents the ingested pill that showed/created some new/old feelings for Matty, whose aesthetic is much closer to Post's. This feels to me like a short somewhat chameleon-like period where she absorbed a bit of his (Matty's) edgy quirks. The tortured poet hunched over a typewriter smoking a cigarette and eating 7 bars of chocolate may be a romanticized *part* of who she is, but it's not entirely who she is, whereas this aesthetic is completely Matty. And it's kinda no wonder to me that he wound up with a tattooed It Girl and she's now with America's Prom King. They didn't seem right for each other at all, at least superficially, which shouldn't matter but at the very least it was an odd pairing. It seemed like a relief for her to be around someone whose mind and creativity runs at warp speed like hers, but hopefully you get what you need, not necessarily what you want.

I feel like the line “your wife waters flowers, I want to kill her” is also about the fact that Taylor doesn’t live a “normal” life and she never will be able to. But her partner wanted a normal life and she couldn’t give that to him. So it’s like his next partner will be a “normal” woman who waters flowers and isn’t famous. That’s just kind of how I thought of that line 😊

Hello Nena, Thank you for your very intersting video! I wonder if you know a bit a The 1975's work, because there are plenty links with TTPD. For exemple, the Fortnight video is very close to the esthetic of "About you" video. That's the song in background when Matty Healy saif "I love you" on stage to Taylor. In this black an white video, you'll find, papers flying, a black dog crossing the screen, a mettalic crown,... Even in the lyrics of song written about Taylor, you will find links (like "they're speaking about the weather"). Here a list of 1975 songs that I presume is about Taylor. (Don't come after me if I'm wrong 😅): - "About You" - "Me &You Together Song" - "She’s American" - "change of heart" - "I'm in love with you" I think he referces mainly to her with "the face from a magazine" And to finish, is it possible that "Style" (and other songs?) was about Matty Healy? Regarding quiet treason, I attribute this to her 6 year relationship and her many mentions of her partner’s tendency to pull away from her. She never calls it passive aggressive but that’s my takeaway. Thank you, Nena for this well thought out deep dive. ❤️

Because Feb is famous for Valentines day which signifies Love, so im thinking it was the metaphor of and it could be what Taylor meant.. That she is somehow stuck in this miserable state, love wise, over and over that she badly wanted to move on with her life but it just couldn't happen, or sometimes she thinks she is but it's just short-lived... I think the turned into good neighbors line probably has to do with not only living in the same country now as compared to when they first met she lived in the states but also how they were both working with Jack and there we’re probably more interactions between them before her and Joe split because of it.

My feeling about the song as a whole is it's about the break down of the American dream: a long term relationship that's failing, and a longing for a past fling when you felt passionate and in love. Another fortnight lost in America: the passion which is lost when you're in an unhappy long term relationship.
