Hello, I have been collecting Hubleys for over 30 years and I'm sorry to tell you this but the piece in this video is without question ABSOLUTELY NOT a Hubley! Hubleys were very widely copied and this is one of those copies. Of all of Hubleys dog figure doorstops, their Boston Terrier Model No #331 doorstop was the most widely copied and this is one of those copies. BTW, model No #331 was the only full figure Boston Terrier doorstop that Hubley ever made. They never made one in a different size and they certainly NEVER made a left facing version as too many people still mistakenly believe. Model No #331 is the only one you will ever find in Hubley catalogs. Each of Hubleys dog figure doorstop models have many different characteristics or attributes that must be present on a piece before you can say that it even might be a Hubley. I could give you a list of 10 different attributes found on a specific Hubley piece and you may have a piece that shows all ten but it's still possible that it may not be a Genuine Hubley. On the other hand, if only one of those attributes or characteristics is different or missing then it cannot possibly be a Hubley. Some are very obvious while others are not. One of the most obvious characteristics on a genuine Hubley Boston Terrier Model No #331 doorstop is that the the right ear is higher than the left ear. Yours shows the left ear higher than the right which proves at a glance that it is NOT a Hubley. The least obvious characteristic identifying two piece Hubleys would be their internal model numbers. ALL Hubley two piece items, including their two piece animal figure doorstops, show their Hubley 3 digit model numbers cast in negative relief into the inside surface of both halves. Remove the screws and open the piece in this video and you will not find the number 331 anywhere inside. (Some other manufacturers also marked their pieces with model numbers but they used different numbers so you must know Hubleys model numbers to make a correct ID.) Making definitive identifications on antiques, collectibles and other old things is not as easy as most people believe. Comparing a piece against photos in a collectors book or on collectors website or checking off from a list of characteristics found in a book is not a reliable method for making IDs on old things and even collectors books have misidentified pieces within their pages. Also, using selling websites (like eBay and Etsy) and auction or collectors websites as an identification resource is a HUGE mistake. Most sellers, auction houses and too many collectors have not gained the necessary skill required to ID these old items. (Stay away from doorstops.com. That collector has countless misidentified pieces on his website.) Some of the very biggest and most well established auction houses (like Sothebys) do employ or retain experts for specific types of items but most do not. Identifying cast iron decorative items is especially difficult for a few reasons. Many of the larger early 20th century American manufacturers and countless smaller manufacturers blatantly copied their competitors more popular pieces. Casting iron was basically very inexpensive and easy to do but very difficult to do well. If you know what to look for, the majority of copies are very easy to spot but learning what to look for takes a very long time to learn. It took me a few years just to learn how to ID Hubleys. I am not skilled in identifying pieces made by other manufacturers and I sincerely doubt there is anyone who can. There were just too many makers to make that even possible. If you have any questions about Hubleys please ask and I'd be happy to respond. Again, this is ABSOLUTELY NOT a Hubley! With all due respect, you should take down this video because all it does is lead others to misidentify similar pieces that they may have or worse, it may lead them to buy a piece thinking that it is a Hubley when it is not. Misinformation on the internet regarding antique and collectibles identification is rampant ands this video only adds to the problem of people being cheated out of their money. PLEASE REMOVE THIS VIDEO! Thank You and Good Luck!

Wow. I had a Schwinn Pea picker in this same green color which was the same frame/shifter but had a chromed front suspension with a smaller 16" wheel with a drum brake. It was a 5 speed. This is an incredible find. The department stores were selling the Chinese Schwinn knock offs some years back. Junk. New Schwinns made in China are not Schwinns to me. Just the name is the same.
