It's a teaser and it did that! I'm glad we only saw a glimpse of him. The pigeon eating scene, ugh!

Home-video castrates the impact of watching this in a jammed movie-theater full of jumping, flinching and screaming fans. You are reacting in a sterilized environment...if you have a chance to see this in a theater filled with an audience, you'll get a chance of the real impact of this film. Also, understand the recent history of American horror, which Hammer Films were the leading purveyor of these. Then in 1967, NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD was originally X-Rated because of the sausage- and meat gobbling scenes (and a naked woman's backside walking away from the camera). It took about 3-4 years before this film had invaded every town's cinema offerings and by that time, the rating had been reduced to a mere 'R', allowing more theaters to show it. Then in 1973, THE EXORCIST arrived with a variety of gore but I contend "projectile vomiting" remains The Number One Grossest Scene. It was at this time, TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE arrived, pretty much taking these same audiences on this stairstep ascension into new heights (??!) of jammed-theater reaction levels. Modern viewers have been castrated of this 'true' experience except in film festivals - where it's still popular. Zoom Viewings just ain't doin' the same thing.
