Our Mission: To enrich the common good through actor-based story telling which is both transcendent and relevant.
Since 1989, the professional artists of the Commonweal have brought to life soulful stories told with honesty and creativity. Located in the heart of southeast Minnesota's bluff country, Lanesboro (pop. 754) is home to the company's beautiful and intimate theatre facility in the midst of an historic downtown.

I had to walk out of this production at intermission. Watching this aging woman ‘seduce’ a young man (in character! Intentionally!) - and I mean YOUNG man… made me so uncomfortable. The casting of Sweeney was a huge mistake. I fear the Commonweal’ suffers from some seriously stodgy leadership.
We had tickets for November 30th, which was our 55th wedding anniversary and it was canceled due to COVID. Very disappointed and we won’t be back to Lanesboro anytime soon.
Why would someone call Dracula the prince of blood
Coz he drinks blood. Where u been?
Lol
This popular all over W Europe, N + S America, including Brasil.
It is 1of 8 mid + late 19th c. most popular dances+ polka, galop, waltz, mazurka, rediwa, quadrille square, English longways country dance.
Very well made! Thank you!
Or course the Schottische is originally German/Austrian, but if the Swedes like it too so be it.
Pippi longstocking introduced me this dance!!!!XD
I enjoyed it very much. Keep it up! Don't miss out - *promosm* !!
Can’t understand anything you are saying for the reverb in the room. Insert vocal narration instead
I’m American and didn’t learn it with hops.
Saw this dance on an old dance card from Wallenberg Colorado in 1908
Really enjoyed Leading Ladies!! Laughed a lot! Nice venue that has no bad seat in the house. You will enjoy every minute of it.
GREAT show! Female Scrooge adds so many new layers of thought and reflection! Terrific costumes, movement, songs, energy, and cast chemistry! Thanks, Commonweal!
We are anxious to see Adrianne as a woman Scrooge. Expectations are over the top since she was such an excellent golden retriever. Wonderful. Jack and Kay Strobel.
Did you like little shop of horrors??
Which puppet is more cheap
Amazing video dude
Brings back memories of community shindigs (there’s a word I haven’t heard this century) with my parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles, cousins, etc. lol. I was 30-something when I realized I was related to almost everyone there through my father. This was back when families had a dozen or so kids to help with the farm. So it was a gathering of Scots with a few Irish. 🪗 + ☘️ = 🍻 🥃 💃 🕺🏽
Sounds fun but why do u think it doesn’t last forever
@@gloreeuhh- in a word, changes. Life is different from when ancestors settled here, broke the land, built little homes, and started a little farm. Farming is a busines$ now with big operation$. Not many family farms left, like there used to be. It’s hard to support a family some years. The drought/flood/fire, etc. doesn’t help. People move away.
@@ShearedJoy and also cuz of death! Why do u think ppl have to die with all of the puppies, flowers, birds, families, and friends. ? Blue skies tooo
How can you tell if the dancers are Americans? They hop. Scandinavians don't.
Way back in 1966, I saw this danced by 80 year old Hispanic grandparents in small village communities between Santa Fe and Albuquerque New Mexico. Appreciate seeing your site.
Came to view this because of the 1939 movie, 'Wuthering Heights' with Merle Oberon & Sir Laurence Olivier
so comforting - Thank You!!
Thank you for still creating art. We all need it.
Delightful!!
Miss you guys so much. God Bless.
Thanks for the greeting and all your work during this difficult year. We enjoyed “A Driftless Christmas” last night but miss seeing your faces. Wishing you all many blessings for the season and for the year to come! Rick & Jeanne

So nice to see all of you together. My wife Debbie and I miss you and can't wait to see some live theater in the future!
We miss all of you and can't wait to see you again in the near future!
We miss you SOOOOO much.
I really miss the theater. Debbie and I really enjoyed the one person play "Fully Committed". Can you do more of those?
Much love and gratitude.
The Commonweal's contributions to the arts community outside the borders of Lanesboro MN are legion. I have regularly seen company members contributing their talents and abilities to productions in Rochester MN. I have seen graduates from their apprentice program show up in theatre work and on stage after their year at the Commonweal. Company member Ben Gorman has spent his own time and money to take An Iliad on the road. The Commonweal is an extraordinary group of artists, and I support them gratefully while awaiting their return to the stage.
lol... this is cool
Brandt you are Genius!!! We knew this before, but Wow - this was incredible fun!
