I just started my microlocs on the 15th and 16th, and I started it with messy parts cause I know that i won’t be able to maintain the perfect parts. I love when my hair is frizzy but it’s getting bad at the roots cus I want to wait until my retwist time, but I love my locs regardless😅😂 your hair is beautiful, and thank you for this video

I have microblogs and I will be doing my own retwist soon. With life snd priorities, maintaining the interlocking just isn’t for me . I agree with your video, it’s too much pressure and stress that ppl try to put on you about your hair . Thanks so much for this video and yes, we would love a video on your care routine in between your retwists. I’m going on 8 weeks with no retwist or retie and I love the freeform voluminous look. It’s freeing and stress free lol

I love that this video gives other people a different perspective of maintaining their locs, but unfortunately for me, when I don’t retie my hair every 4-6 weeks I suffer from real damage, severe bunching and breakage 😢. Maybe it’s because of my hair texture, not sure. But I’m not worried about my grid, having perfect looking locs or anything. I just want healthy locs and I’d love to be able to go longer without a retie.

I’m not going to lie, I too was concerned when I saw your videos on IG about going back and forth lol! But this explains a lot in a way I never thought of. My hair is a little more fragile (mix of fine and medium hair strands, high porosity) and I like the more unified look. I maintain it myself and have experimented with space between reties, and it helps me to keep on a schedule of 8 weeks max. But this is a great option for people whose hair is stronger, and can’t keep up with a regular retie schedule. Will definitely be recommending your content!

I appreciate the respectful dialogue here. I just got my micro locks professionally installed one week ago today and it is my intention for at least a year to go and do the retightening on schedule. I have the money allocated for it. I am retired. My boys are grown and it’s not expensive but once my year is up, I will learn how to do it myself And then not be bound to go every 6 to 8 weeks. Because as I have seen some ladies mention here on this topic 6 to 8 weeks almost feels like you’re going back into doing a perm again with that kind of scheduling. And I appreciate you showing all of us what six months out looks like without having to do a retie. It does not look bad at all, so I am very inspired that once I complete my one year cycle of going professionally I would love to see what my hair will look like several months out without having to do a retie on a schedule. If it’s starting to look like it’s raggedy and it just does not look great, the time and money that I would have invested in learning to retire myself I’ll be able to do that on my own time frame. Everybody’s hair and everybody’s circumstances are going to be different. But I do appreciate you taking some of the complication and stress out of the loc journey. And I appreciate that you have provided us the permission that we need to go ahead and experiment with our hair we know for ourselves, if it doesn’t work out, we can cut it off and grow it all again and do something different. And I have seen a lot of ladies doing many different things many are pressing their locks. Many of them are , doing their own color cutting their locks etc etc so that’s all part of the journey. Part of the journey is also having fun and exploring.

I do it when I want to and who "wants" tired arms. 😂 I'm enjoying the freedom from hair products, extensions, failed Twist outs, and fear of water. Do you pop your locks between maintenance? I do. Gurl….i realized everything you said after my sisterlocs install and that FIRST retightening. I took my SL down after that. It felt like having to a perm mindset culture to me. If they see their roots come in…time to get that “re-tie” every 4-6 weeks,,,,just like relaxer!! These women still are afraid to see their roots.smh Thank you for confirming what I already knew. And that’s why sisterlocs were created for the same “relaxer” mindset ladies…..this was the owner’s intention. Genius, if you ask me. Still have black women in bondage to hairstylists every 4-6 weeks. So glad ‘I have my thick semi Freeform traditional locs. True hair freedom. Your roots and locs are gorgeous!

Though I have 452 micro locs, they're not extra small so I could go long periods of time without retwisting. I'm currently 6 weeks post maintenance but I'm going for 12 weeks before I retwist. I don’t have a problem with holes in my locs. I have 10 coily locs in the back that I am not interlocking. The texture of my hair is probably 4C here. Each of these locs is the dimension of a coil of hair. I wish all my locs were like this but my hair texture changes across my scalp. New subscriber here.
