Builds with Brian

Building, making, fabricating is my passion as well as my occupation.
Working with wood, plastic or fabricating with metal... I love it all.
I am currently exploring the world of digital fabrication with my CNC router.
The possibilities seem endless...and a CNC machine is versatile tool to have in the shop.

Learning new skills is a huge part of growing as a person, and this includes skills in the workshop
as well as outside... such as "learning how to build a KZread channel to share
my projects with others.

I sincerely hope you the viewer find my videos inspiring, and useful in helping
you build your own projects.

Most of the design is solid. The only thing I would modify is to add a mechanism to set the plane of the work surface perpendicular to the the blade. Not sure though, maybe that turnbuckle does that. The pivot is clever. If you change the design to metal and decide to use square tubing at that pivot, oversize the bolt holes and use round tubing with an ID suitable for the bolt as a crushtube to take the clamp load off the square tube walls. I'd probably change the design to a completely toolless pivot, and use something like a fluted knob available from Carr-Lane.

Thank you. I am going to try this when i get home. My step father is a contractor and he said "NUH UHH PUT IT DOWN! YOU'RE JUST GOING TO TWIST THE CORD!" (gently chastised me) haha. I cant really hear what youre saying in the video because we're at the campground and its very noisy. Im guessing this helps to not twist extension cords etc correct? I want to learn because of this incident but he wont teach me 😅😅 hes a busy guy. I hsually only use short extension cords (10 feet), but i have some ethernet cables i need to learn how to wrap those as well.

Can your big toe feel the edge of the sole, at the tip? I think maybe I’d go for a bigger size, but because they look so soft, I suppose you do have to fill them !

  • @BuildswithBrian

Very useful to see these strength tested, thanks! I use them to splice cctv cables and automotive where the cable isn't going to see much strain. In either event I take a good length of heavy duty adhesive-lined shrink tube and apply over the top (I give about 4cm of clearance either side) to give some extra strength, extra waterproofing and make them look tidy. If you splice an 8-core CAT5e cable using the smallest diameter solder connectors and stagger them in pairs, then cover with a good length of heavy duty adhesive lined heat shrink to match the cable colour, the signal degradation is no worse than an inline RJ45 connector and from only a few feet away you have to look carefully to even see that they've been joined.
