Gathering Rust Hobby Farm
Gathering Rust Hobby Farm
Gathering Rust Hobby Farm is a small Hobby Farm in Kentucky. Together, Denny Rust, Traci Rust, Max Gross and Ian Rust, we are The Rust family. This farm has allowed us to have an escape away from our busy everyday lives. Our hobby farm has no limits because we enjoy being outdoors. From chickens and ducks to farm equipment and gardens. Recently we purchased the RK 25 compact tractor from Rural King. On our channel we want to share things to help others and we love input from you too. There is a lot we don't know. So it takes a mistake or two to get it done sometimes. If you have insight on how to do something easier or better please help us out. We hope you enjoy our videos. Thank you for joining us here on our channel.

Great video! I am just about to pull the plug on getting a new RK25 and backhoe. Your video has nudged me a little closer. 😂 We have 14 ac raw land...getting close to building...have A LOT of work to do.
Cotter keys are nice and I keep extras because I misplace them
what trailer do you use to transport your tractor? enjoy your video
Thank you for this throrough video. I did notice that your rag touched the ground before wiping the oil drain plug and touched the tire before you wiped off the dipstick. I also noticed the oil bottle cap thread side down, setting on the engine. Any of these actions could pick up dirt and potentially contaminate the oil. I would also check the manual for torque specs for the backhoe bracket bolts. Keep up the great videos.
Thank you. I would have never done this without this step by step video. I watched them all. This one is the most helpful. Only thing I didn’t see is when attaching the couplers to the valve was which end of the fitting goes in the male and female couplers. One end is completely threaded and the other is threaded with a beveled edge. So I put the complete threaded end into the valve and the beagles threaded end into the couplers. I can’t thank you enough.
Oh sorry. I meant to say I put the beveled end into the coupler. Auto correct got me.
@@EvelynOrmsbee-x6r so glad this has helped. Check out the other videos for more info
Great informative video. Thank you for taking the time. I’ve been looking at one of these tractors compared to all the other ones that are highly overpriced. City boy never owned a tractor before looking to buy one of these shoes. Can the backhoe portion of this be taken off for like a box scrape, and or other implements?thanks again for the informative video.
You are the man! Thanks for the video. Just did my RK25.
thanks for the video i got the rk 25 about 3 weeks ago and i am going to take off backhoe to try out my bush hog video was helpful
Glad this video helped. If you need additional help let me know.
@@gatheringrusthobbyfarm8081 what is the easy way to hook up a bush hog?
Got my RK25 in January. Fuel gauge doesn't work so it ran out of fuel and died. Initially looked into this problem as possibly the cause of the my problem. Interestingly, my fuse panel was installed upside down. I thought it was just the label was weird. But, now that I see yours, I can say that mine is upside down. No other problems. Not sure if the rubbing wire issue was countermeasured before mine was built, but it did look like there was more protective sheathing on mine compared to yours. Thanks for this video and all of your RK25 videos.
Thank you much for making this video! I'd buy you a beer right now if I could! Saved the day!
The ducks are like, “Ha! He needs the instructions!” 😂
Taking 2x4 scraps and chalking behind and on the sides of the rear wheels before starting the removal of the backhoe helps align the tractor with the backhoe when you are trying to reinstall the backhoe back on the tractor later. Ask me how I know...
Did you buy the tractor outright or did you finance and if so, what was the cost breakdown?
Thank you for this video. I will be picking up my RK25 with the backhoe in the next few days. This video is extremely helpful in letting me know how to disconnect and reconnect the backhoe. I do have one thought, however. When you're reconnecting the backhoe, as you said, you can use the hydraulics you paid for to help you out. Once it's aligned, couldn't you use the bucket to push the subframe back into position under the tractor when you're hooking it up? I know the outriggers would drag a bit, but for a one person operation, it seems like that would be easier than getting on and off the tractor to move the tractor into position. Thanks to a recent Rural King promotion, I am getting a free mid-mount mower deck with my tractor. Although I will only use the backhoe occasionally, I expect I'll use the mower a bit more. According to the sales rep I spoke with, the mounting brackets for the mower won't work with the backhoe brackets attached and vice-versa. I was looking closely at this yesterday, and I believe he is incorrect about this. I am hoping I can have all the brackets installed, then just attach whichever implement I need at the time. If anyone has experience with this, please comment!
The mid pto is more of the problem. As I understand you cannot have a RK25 that has both the mower and the backhoe. Unless they have changed it. The mid pto does not come installed on a rk25 unless you add the mower. When you add the mid pto it is in the way of the backhoe subframe. So if you want to use the backhoe subframe the mid pto has to be removed. Which means all of the fluid in the transmission has to come out, remove the mid pto, install the original cover to go in place of the mid pto and then replace the trans-hydraulic oil. The could have made changes. So what I am going to do is wait to see when the local Rk has one with a mower and one with a backhoe. I am gonna go down and look. If they will allow me I will take a video. The program for the free mower is great but I know a lot of people have had to turn down the mower because they need a backhoe.
@@gatheringrusthobbyfarm8081 Thank you for the quick response. This is definitely a good thing to look into, as I would like the ability to use both implements easily if possible. I didn't get that far underneath both tractors to see that issue. My concern at the time I looked was the brackets, because that's where I was told the conflict existed. I will look at the mid PTO the next time I'm there (perhaps later today) to see how the mid PTO is hooked up. Thank you again for your quick response.
@@FarmRanchHomestead the brackets, as I understand, also have conflict.
My RK25 is like an appendage. Love it!
nice to see you back. When did you get snow? Where was your tractor?
Been a little while since the snow but finally decided to just put out the raw footage. Not much but something. Tractor was being used by a friend for quite some time. He loves it so much I wondered if I would ever get it back. May make a video with him in it.
Best video ever! Love the wally thru. Thank you!!!
Thank you for the kind words. Glad the information has been a benefit and continues to help people.
Great video … you’d be my recommendation for how videos
Awesome, thank you!
This video definitely helped me and I subscribed! My wife and I are just getting started on our dream and I will be in the market for a tractor. This one has made the short list so far.
Glad to help. The journey ahead is definitely exciting and this tractor has helped us tremendously.
How much trans fluid did it take? Manual says 5.8 gallons but mine only took approximately 4 gallons.
Sometimes not all of the fluid comes out of the system when you drain it.
That’s a finish mower. You are using it for a bush hog
Nice simple video man! Exactly what I needed to know. Yes I have the manual that came with it..but you already know I didnt read the damn thing...😅😅😅 Appreciate ya!
This is exactly why I created the video. Glad it continues to help people.
Love your videos. Just purchased a RK25. Love it. Learning curve is not bad. Appreciate your efforts to help educate the RK25 community. Live in Sweetwater, TN. My 25 came with front loader. Added tiller, 5ft rear blade and tiller. I can already see I am going to need a backhoe. Please keep up the good work. Thanks again.
Glad the videos have helped you out. I am working four jobs right now and seven days a week. Unfortunately no time to do videos right now. I do have some sitting in my video creator but just not quite ready to upload. I may just put them out as RAW footage.
Careful. !! It's easy to put to much pressure on the front saddle. I broke it on both of my 25's check the welds once a month
I am definitely going to thoroughly look at the tractor and all of the welds for cracks etc. I am a chassis inspector for drag racing. So maybe it might actually be a good video to put out there for everyone.
If only they had factory cabs.
RK/TYM does have a cab you can have put on the tractor. It only has heat no A/C.
Just thinking, couldn't you use the bucket to curl out to push you right in place to do the final hookup after you used the boom to line yourself up? 12:00 time stamp . Use the controls on the backhoe instead of jumping on and off the rig.
Nice overview....
Glad to help
@Cypher911x10 18 hours ago I do have a question. My backhoe only has about 6 hours on it. It started swinging too far to the right (sitting on the backhoe) and actually dented the metal next to the rubber bumper. When it did this, it would not return to the left without bouncing it right & left and then it would finally return left. Is there a way to adjust the valves for swing stop? Do the hydraulic swing cylinders adjust...like screw in or out to limit travel?
John deere is so much easier. Sorry to say.
May be but I am happy with my tractor.
thx for the video bro
Certainly welcome
Just got my RK25 yesterday. Under the weather now but can't wait to feel better and get to work with it. Bucket and backhoe but I have some accessories with my old Ferguson TO25 I'll see if they work with the new one. Your videos have been helpful. Thank you
Dude you are gonna love it. I am about to get mine back on my property and get working myself.
Just purchased a RK25 with backhoe... Thank you for all these videos... I just subscribed :-)
Congratulations on your new tractor. Glad to help. Appreciate you subscribing. I will be picking up the camera again very soon. Been down with life changes lately.
Thanks for this. I am getting ready to go install mine now. I took it off about a year ago and need it today. Great explanation!
Hope this helps. I will be making a new updated video. If you find something I missed or that could help. Please let me know.

Great job brother your Dad would be proud of your videos
Thanks a bunch. I greatly appreciate your support.
Good job!!! Looking great
Thanks a bunch. My wife did a great job
Awesome progress! Looks great!
Thanks for the support.
You need to get some chickens, brother! 😂
Nice work. The old deck looked nice too just a few years ago. They don't make treated lumber that lasts like it used to.
We found rot everywhere. So we completely redesigned it to meet our needs a bit better.
Does the pto lever on off keep the pto switch locked and after engaging it do you put it on full throttle like a zeroturn to run a mower or bush hog?
Can you get it to where you dont have the deck adjustment for the mowerdeck and everything that moves it
Which deck adjustments are you referring too?
The belly mower
I was recently told by a manager at ruralking that if i did the service myself it would void the warranty. Have you head anything like this?
Absolutely not true. Keep your receipt. Take a pic of it next to the hour meter when you do the service. Take pics of the fluids and the filters. Then send it to rk for them to put on their system.
WTF a ghost dog!! That dog just disappeared and you kept talking.
Man you people are small, this tractor looks to be a pretty good size when I see it in videos with people running it, but when I go look at them they're fuckin small, I feel like a giant standing beside them.
Great video! Step by step, with all the details. I was struggling with this until I saw this video. Thanks!
thanks for the video! i have a question please, can i have Pat's Easy Change on the 2 point hitch and still able to hook back up the backhoe? thanks in advance!
As soon as I saw this comment, I contacted a friend of mine. He is another content creator that has a rk25 with backhoe and the pats quick hitch setup. A quick answer to your question is YES. After talking to my friend he said he would create a video showing details. Well he has delivered. Here it is: kzread.info/dash/bejne/e6Oo2cNuf7fHg9o.htmlsi=W7L2MFdipXje07dq Thank you Bryce Steiner

How much is a 50 hour service st the store?
Just over $300 parts and labor.
I'm new to tractor and hydraulic, and I just received my TYM T25, and I noticed while disconnecting my grapple, the hydraulic was whiteish.... I never operated a backhoe before, and I notice there were a good delay when I change direction... Maybe it normal, but I'm starting to think after watching your video it might be air in the hydraulic in the system, and the delay of the hydraulic is the air being compressed... The machine have 8.7 hours of run time ! I emailed the dealer and we will see what they tell me !
If the hydraulic fluid has a “whiteish” color then you definitely have a problem somewhere. It could also be water. Certainly you need to have it checked before using it. If there is a problem and you continue to use it….. you could cause permanent damage. Let me know if I can help further.
