  This Version was based on the Yeston/Kopit Phantom Musical and so as to not clash with Webbers Version I think that’s why Raoul’s name was changed to Philippe (fun fact- that’s actually the name of Raoul’s older brother in the original novel LOL)

  My grandmother recorded this movie when it aired on television over 30 years ago. My siblings and I would watch it. We were very, very young. I was probably 9 or 10? My baby brother was maybe 5 when I first sat and watched it with him. I LOVED the movie then and I still love it today. This was always my favorite scene! Every time I watch it my entire body becomes covered in goosebumps. This year, I decided to read Faust and figure out what the opera story is about…Goethe is not light reading but I’m almost finished with the book. I’ve been learning a lot and expanding my mind…and it is all because this scene inspired me and sparked my curiosity when I was a child. Thank you to the person who made it available on KZread!

  Erik's forest has always been confusing to me. Plants need lights to grow, so all that thick greenery must be as artificial as the animals - where did he get it all? But it actually looks like it's light. What is his light source, there in the vaults below the opera? I don't want to believe they simply went outside to film this scene..

  I never realized before, but Phillipe-Christine and Erik-Christine each have their own musical theme. The Phillipe-Christine one is the one starting at 6:04 here, when he talks about his love for her. It's the same music they played together on the piano as children. The Erik-Christine love theme is the lullaby Erik sings to her. That music is repeated later, when he misses her and caresses her wig.

  I really like this version of the phantom, he actually has a personality, instead of the typical angsty selfish asshole personality we usually get this phantom is likeable with his funny sarcastic comments.
