My grandfather was 10 years old and lived with his family on California St. The earthquake was so strong it threw him out of his bed. The only way out of the house was through a window. His whole family moved to L A.

I survived the Alaskan Good Friday Earthquake of March 27, 1964. It lastest 5 1/2 minutes at 9.2 on the richter scale. It was an earthquake in my early life and no tremors or earthquakes ever bothered me since.

I can't even imagine the absolute horror and devastation these people went through. I hadn't realized there was media footage of this awful event or interviews with some of the survivors. My heart goes out to them.

My grandfather, who was a stone mason, came over from Sweden in 1906 and he took the train to the west coast and eventually arrived in San Francisco to help rebuild. Not sure how long he stayed, but a few years later he married my Grandma in NW Oregon. The memories really stuck with him and shared his experiences but he died when I was a small child and in my juvenile mind never thought to ask any family members he may have told and now they’re all gone.

It was our fault we call it the San Andreas fault. My great grandfather was Sam Faix who was at 8 yrs apprenticed to a smith/metal worker then at 14 yrs old he was on his way to Brazil he by himself sailed to Ellis island N.Y. then train to San Francisco and never left. He retired as a smith at 85 and collected retirement till 104. I am retired now a fourth generation firefighter that started with my other great grandfather from Holland. How dare anyone suggest their make believe gawd diid this devestion as punishment. Your ignorance is astounding.

I've heard from a couple of people, that San Francisco is haunted by the ghost of the people who did not receive a proper burial . The demolition was hurried and many dead bodies were amongst the ruins and rubble, and we're carried off with the debris. Many old Victorian homes in SF are haunted. Example; ghost playing with your hair as you sit and watch TV. And an angry ghost who would set off the fire alarm for no reason. Go to SF, you will understand. You can feel the presence of ghost there.

Nice documentary! I share the sentiment that the rebound from such a tragedy wouldn't happen again today if it were to be repeated. We were a different country back then, full of heartty, resilient people who managed to come together as a community and rebuild, despite their differences and prejudices. As bitterly divided as the country is today, that simply wouldn't happen.

No one who lives in the US would possibly believe any state is like what you are claiming. Do you not know how to Google? Have you never heard of Southern California? So many mansions are there, most counties are wealthy as well as Northern California. Check your facts before speaking
