    I caught a skate on a 1” gulp minnow on a 1/32 oz jig head fishing for perch, I thought I snagged him but it was in his mouth, it’s crazy what stuff will chase down

    So that reel comes with a bail however I had it converted to Bailess ..it's a preference thing

    Lol great question, so the best part about having a bailess reel is it prevents you from accidentally casting an expensive lure out and it flying into the ocean , sometimes the bail flips over accidentally and it causes your whole rig/ lure to snap off ...it's happened to me plenty of times 😀 one less mechanical issue to worry about, hope this makes sense

    Only ones I catch off the surface during summer is skate whiting and spot, small flounder if close to the inlet

    That is a spot not a spot croaker. They are 2 separate species.

    There are 2 croakers , spot croakers and Atlantic croakers , yes 2 different species ...spot croakers are often called spots ...Atlantic croakers are often called croakers , thank you for watching

    Yes 2 different species ..I believe they are both croakers , one is called a Spot croaker and the other is an Atlantic croaker

    The fish at the ~16:30 minute mark is commonly called a sand perch in North Carolina.

    FYI-sabiki rigs are illegal in Maryland unless you cut off all the hooks except 2. We are only allowed to have 2 hooks on a rod.

    Great day of tog fishing! Thanks for the tutorial as well. We like tog fishing and were out at Barnegat last July. Caught lots of undersized togs and had fun with light tackle and small hooks punching the holes in the rocks for cunner.

    Early spring and later in fall is better fishing. Won’t catch but stuff in the surf often out there in summer other than sharks if you get it out with a drone

    That mystery fish is a silver perch. They are related to the other drum species like spot, croaker, weakfish, etc. Seemed like a nice day. We typically fish the Oceanic pier in the inlet and have not fished that pier. May have to give it a try. We love variety and my daughter hasn't caught a clearnose skate yet. Good luck on your next trip. Looking forward to more videos.

    Big spot are good eating, except for the bones. Back in the day we'd fill a bushel basket, steam and flake and make fish cakes to freeze for winter eating. About as good as a crab cake.

    Hi Sammy , if you plan on fishing in freshwater then yes you need to buy a fishing license if you are 16 and older , however if you plan on fishing in saltwater all you need is to register on their website ..I left the link for you dec.ny.gov

    Hi Sammy , if you plan on fishing in freshwater you're gonna need to buy a freshwater fishing license however if you plan on fishing in saltwater then all you need to do is register for free with the New York DEC ...here's the link dec.ny.gov/regulatory/permits-licenses/sporting-and-use/sporting/fishing-license

    Snagging bunker is legal just don’t snag the bunker and leave it out there with the snag rig. I watched several fisherman gets fined by fish n game for snagging amd leaving them out on the snag rig

    I watched an old man about 6 years ago use a high low rig for blackfish and got a double header with big fish. Had a 8 pounder and an 11 pounder on at the same time at that same location

    I grew up fishing the bicycle path in Brooklyn. Blue, Stripe Bass, Porgies, Snappers, fluke, good selection fish depending on the season. Skates were pretty common. One day I caught a huge Ray 30 in to 36 in wingspan. I could not get him over the fence, took the hook out and down he tumbled and swam away. Thanks for the memories. New friend like 62
