Launched there 800 times.... Way before it was purty.... It was purty scary. When Hugo came through the water was 10 feet above the parking lot. The water from the flood was in the pond before you got to the ramp. That narrow opening used to be where a millionaire was gonna put a boat dock in that bay, but got busted in the 70's for coke sales.....Bowfin are in there like cord wood.... I caught a 9 lbs Bass in that lake that used to be a dug out for sand.

Had the chance to ride the Galax to Fries section yesterday for the first time and it won't be the last. So beautiful and so well-maintained. Tim from the New River Outfitters ran our shuttle for us. As you described, he is a great guy. The New River Side Deli had a change in ownership about 2 months ago and they are planning some major updates in terms of products carried. They plan to eventually put fountain drinks in. The bacon cheeseburger seems to have suffered somewhat in the management change; ours was OK but nothing to write home about. The club sandwiches that we bought there and ate out the trail were outstanding, helped considerably by the wonderfully fresh and ripe tomatoes. There are plenty of opportunities to picnic along that section of the trail. There are also a number of pit toilets. We did not see any water fountains but we had brought plenty of our own water. Lots of bird activity, the wildlife sightings were limited to one deer and a box turtle. The tunnel was cute and short. The river was low but still saw a number of folks enjoying the fishing and tubing opportunities. And, if you are in Fries on a Thursday night, and you are a fan of acoustic Southern Appalachian music, they have an acoustic music night at the historic Fries Theatre that is not to be missed. Concessions open at 6, music from 7 - 8.

I helped my Dad set up a singlewide on 74th street around 1987 (its still there) We could walk down 74th across the main road to the beach access. He kept it till 2006 or so. Many great memories down there. I spent many mornings fishing those waters on and off shore. We have since purchased a place in Holden Beach for weekend getaways. Love that area!!

No offense at all, but in my home, we survive on eggs and bread because gas money is necessary to get to work every day. We dip 4 slices of bread in one beaten egg and fry it and we get 2 slices each 2x a day. If it weren't for water, our stomachs would rumble all day even just a couple hours after our meal. But even for this, my family is still grateful, because we know that what little we do have is more than what some have. Be humble, people. It could be worse.

Great video. Thanks for taking us along. I heard on another video that the locals call that place "Freeze" in the winter and "Fries" in the summer.🤣😂🤣 Yes, those were recumbent trikes. Most models are expensive, but super comfy. I think many more upright riders would use them if they test rode them at a shop. No more balancing, no more wedge jammed up where it does not belong!😂 Ha! Loved your coulrophobia warning! Was that odor creosote? I don't drink or I'd send you an appreciation card. That brewing place looks really cool.
