pauls vocal performance on oh darling leaves nothing to be desired. it's absolutely brilliant. but it is interesting to think about john singing a paul song and vice versa. john really struggled to record the vocals on across the universe. i wonder if pauls range might have been better suited to that particular song.

Even though I wouldn't change a thing about the White Album or any other Beatles offering, it is still worth flexing your imagination a little make room for the idea "Isn't It a Pity and "Not Guilty" supplanting "Revolution #9" and "Wild Honey Pie".

Strong disagree personally on what John said. "Lucy", "A Day in the Life", and other great songs from this album like "When I'm Sixty-Four" honestly couldn't have gone on any other album. They found such a home on this one. That's why this is one of my favorite Beatles albums ever.

As many have said I think Paul's end result was perfect. The straining actually gave the song the desperation it needed for it to be the great and convincing performance it was and is. I feel John would have been a bit lazy on the track being that it was not his writing, but of course we will never know.

I agree that the raspy, desperate thrust of those lyrics were more Lennonesque than Macartneyish. What it ends up being is an impersonation, just as Mother Nature's Son was a take on Donovan, etc. Had it been left to Lennon, it might've stood beside his Dizzy Missy Lizzy, Rock n Roll Music, or Twist and Shout--his greatest achievements in the bellowing sphere.

I slept on Magical Mystery Tour for YEARS since it was never an official album. Oh how wrong I was to have done such a thing... Banger after banger... There's only a couple on there I don't think stand up next to the rest, but every other song on that LP was a masterpiece.

Lennon’s would have been great, different, but not necessarily superior. McCartney delivered a a great deep full throated vocal. They were both at their heights as vocalists and as good or better than any other vocalists given their range of singing styles.

Like many Beatles songs, it's about the simple surface explanation, but then reverberates into other zones. I cover this, and have tweaked a few things, one or two slight word changes that shift it into a more obvious altered state. And added a kind of retro vibe, female vocals.

It's kind of funny because john started playing music much later than paul and George his mother taught him when they got close later when john was and older teen she played the banjo so she taught him some banjo cords I heard that she was very encouraging to her son and john was a very talented artist but he loved rock and roll and john had a great voice for this kind of music I read that his mother Julia bought him his first guitare but he only new banjo cords so he worked very hard on learning when he met Paul he said in and interview he was very impressed by pauls talent he played Eddie Cochrane 20 flight rock all the way through and john was taken aback paul also new how to tune a guitare by ear and john said he new right away that he was going to be his partner later pauls cheep guitar fell apart luckily he could play some piano but when John's art school friend and the bands bass player decided to stay in Germany with Astrid his girl friend it was decided that paul would play bass witch he wasn't to happy with but if you watch the old footage john was a great rhythm guitare player one of the ten best in a publication of the time.

John just said he thought the song would have been a good fit for his singing style. The Paul-Worship in the comments is nauseating, btw. Paul does an amazing job; so would John have. And Paul did not, by a country mile, have a 'stronger' voice than John...what planet would you have to inhabit to say that.

No way was Jealous Guy written about Paul. He's getting mixed up in his old age and getting confused with How Do You Sleep. Silly old duffer! 😂😂 Ps. George was lucky to get a single song on ANY Beatles album as the publishing deal was for Lennon and McCartney songs. A fact which never stuck in George's obstinate head.

John was not gay. He was very curious to see gay scene which was basically officially illegal at the time and closed off to most people. Plus he was running away from responsibility while his wife was pregnant and gave birth to Julian. John was only 22 at the time, he was basically a kid in adult's body

Imagine being in a band so good that another singer in the group arguably could have done a better vocal than Paul McCartney on "Oh! Darling"! It's a perfect vocal performance! But just the fact that had we never heard Paul sing it, and there was a John version and it probably would have been awesome as well, is just testament to how stellar this band was.
