I love that you mention a "sweet spot" that can be subjective to a lot of people, because I feel like that boils down what I'm trying to do. I love that there's so many options, but for once in my life, I'm making a conscious decision opposed to just letting whatever is around or new be what I use. I know what works best for me may not work for everyone. Being proactive about the tech I enjoy, such as making playlists to listen to, or figuring out what I'm going to watch on my TV for the next day or so (I put my non-youtube visual media on a flash drive and play it from my BluRay player instead of sifting through streaming), feels not only more involved and closer to a hobby, but I feel a certain sense of ownership over my free time. I think even just the whole act of being able to zoom out and making this stuff less convenient to use has so much value in making what we do feel more deliberate and meaningful. I feel like rethinking tech and it's place in my life has me realizing this process is much less like losing an old friend, and more like taking a vacation from a toxic home life 😂 I don't think I'm gonna come back to where I was, I think I'm going to inch closer and closer to my vacation spot until work forces me to get closer again 😅 (okay that analogy got away from me lol)

im an elder millennial, and ive been really eyeing the dumb phone route (my first cell phone was the razr as well, and i loved it) but of all things its really the gps thats holding me back. the more i think about it, the more i want to strip EVERYTHING off my phone, and treat those at home devices like laptops or tablets as what most people use their phones for. but again, those are home devices, so it encourages me to be more mindful when im out. IDK, i picked up a pretty budget digital camera that was WAY better than my phone, and with SD cards being so cheap the storage is huge. It lets me take pictures and cherish them when i later send thrm to friends or get them printed out, instead of posting a hundred and then forgetting them all

I agreed as well I just me a 6 generation I pod nano not too long ago and used it for music without using data the reason why I got this because it had a FM radio built into it where I can listen to the local channel and if I needed podcast before leaving I download the podcast to my I pod than can listen to it offline. I don’t have internet on my I phone as well only basic call and text

I recently picked up an iPod 5th gen and a small mp3 player for the gym. I'm slowly moving away from streaming services and cutting down time online. Just the other day I picked up a CD and took the time to relax and listen to it and it was a chill experience. I didn't feel that mindless feeling I get from endlessly scrolling to find something of interest.

I have an iPod as a Millennial. One of the things I did to it was upgrade the battery and change the HDD to a tiny lil mSATA SSD. There's a bunch of how-to's on DankPods's channel. You can also add USB-C Charging, Bluetooth and haptic feedback with the Moonlit Market back case too. iPods have had a huge following as of recent.

I never stream music cause I have always loved playing what I want to listen to when I want without the worry of the services not having it for whatever reason that’s why I still use my iPod touch cause I can also watch music videos I have gotten from iTunes over the years on it as well on it even though I still have my classic iPod that isn’t holding a charge well probably due to needing a new battery

The algorithm brought me here, but I can see the appeal of this take in general. I'm a millennial, so I've kind of been through all of this. I had no internet access at all until I was like 11, had a cassette Walkman, Discman, MiniDisc player, and eventually the black version of the iPod in this video. I didn't jump to music streaming until Apple Music came into existence, mostly because it let me keep using my already solid personal collection of purchased content and ripped CDs. Honestly, if I go looking for the essence of what makes technology today feel kind of gross and way too distracting... it's really just social media lol. So, I basically just use my phone pretending Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, Threads, etc. don't exist, and it's awesome.

I’ve gone back to the classic iPod for music as well. It’s amazing how much you do not appreciate music when you have it all at your fingertips I was getting a Netflix fatigue like feeling with Spotify. The quality on. Spotify is not very good as well so now when I go on walks or go to the gym or just hang out and wanna listen to music I put my phone away and grab my iPod classic, no distractions so much better quality and just feels retro. I love it.

Damn, YT recommending these new “Using iPods in 202X” (Replace the X with the last digit from recent year like 4, therefore being 2024), users and ya know what, as a fellow daily iPod user, I’m happy for ya 👍 Before discovering dankpods like idk, which was like 3 years ago maybe, I always used a Nano 5h gen. It was my favorite and my daily driver. But ever since discovering him he inspired me to get the device I always wanted when I was a wee lad which is an iPod Classic, however I got the 4th gen to start with but then upgraded to the actual Classic I always wanted which is the 5th gen Classic a year after. Gave it a Clear faceplate and a rainbow backplate, installed an iFlash to use SD and used it daily. Last year I made a Nano upgrade, got myself a 7th gen Nano; Small and slim, but best of all has bluetooth. Got a 30 pin bluetooth adapter for my stereo which has an iPod dock, put that adapter in and can connect my Nano 7th gen and listen to my tunes out loud. I take either the 5th gen Classic or the 7th gen Nano out with me.
