This is what I have noticed as a non musician. The "best" guitarists can't an won't play with a band because they are upset because the drummer and bass players are live humans. Imperfect, instead of whatever recording they are used to playing along to.

Having “musical talent” and being a good “musician” are two different yet not mutually exclusive qualities. you are equating ‘technical ability’ with ‘musicianship’. The jazz guitar player who knows all the scales and chords but still knows when to play a power chord is a better musician than the one that doesn’t. So Is the green guitar player that only knows power chords, but only if the song calls for it. Musicianship is about measured dialogue of context exchanged between players and the material.
