Is the oem muffler w/ overlap easy to sell? I have a 550 S.E. also.
I’m hanging on to my OEM muffler for when I sell the car.
My boxster is artic silver, is there a way to get that in touch up paint? Differently needs some touch ups! I like your results, and made it look simple, thanks!
Yes. Put in your year, make, model on touchupdirects website. It’ll come up.
@@LenartoGarage 2006 boxster s artic silver and also looking for rear qtr.panel fender stickers in artic silver, original are cracked and faded. Need to replace both. Thanks !

Cool, i have #779
Thanks for the video! This was very helpful during my install. I did both primary and secondary. Still in the middle of it and struggling to align the primary to both the secondary and the turbo
Glad it was helpful! Yeah, aligning them was a pain!
You have THE best wheel designs on your 986. 👍🏼. Carrera wheels are so nice and really make a 986 look much more modern.
You have to replace everything while you’re at it including the bolts. Then clean out all the oil including taking the spark plugs out.. make sure you use proper cleaners for each part. Very good job though. I am just perfectionist, want the boxter to last forever. Haaa
Done the same to my Boxster using a toothpick for those tiny chips. Turned out fantastic, especially after a polish.
I got a new one for free from BMW.
Yeah they are replacing them now with a new part number. Hopefully the new tank doesn’t have the same flaws.
Time will tell but I hope they learned from the past.
Man, I'm disappointed to hear this. I ordered a set of secondary downpipes to go with my custom exhaust I had built. I think you will have to get rid of the stock Exhaust as it is still restrictive at the rear with that middle box between both mufflers. Did you already remove the resonator in the middle?
No, rest of the exhaust is stock.
@@LenartoGarage ok. I just saw the other video where you added the primaries. You should consider removing that resonator and adding the Dinan x-pipe if you want more volume.
Hey, is running downpipes worth it? Other than my project gamma front intakes on my F90 everything else is stock. I am in need for more exhaust note it’s way to quiet. I was looking into purchasing an awe full cat back track exhaust as it has gotten pretty good feedback from other owners.
The catted primary + secondary pipes combo did make a difference, but I found myself wanting a little more sound at times. If you can find an exhaust that is the same as stock with the valves closed and rowdy with the valves open, that’s that I would recommend. Of course, that’s going to cost more.
Nice job … did you buy separate paint for the fine line pen or did you use the paint from the touch up pen? I have a 2003 Boxster S with similar paint chips … thanks for posting
I used the paint brush in the touch up paint to fill the fine line pen.
the pen arrived today and a touch up paint bottle is due tomorrow … looking forward to trying this out … thanks again
Looks fantastic!
Thank you! I’m really happy with how it turned out!
Awesome video. Thank you! I'll be doing this shortly as well. 97506 were the ones I was looking at as well. What are you gapping them to? 0.022?
just saw the gap portion of the video, thank you!
Thanks! Yep, 0.022!
Sounds Great! Keeping my Boxster S stock but I do appreciate it
Thanks!
Are these the resonated secondary pipes?
Non-resonated
The hood of my 986 S looked exactly the same when I bought it. I touched all of them up with the paint and now it looks better. Nice car you have there!
Thanks!
nice job, that tool is pretty nice. Cant wait to see it after a proper paint correction.
installed mine about a month ago, but I kept secondary cats. Still sounds way better than stock without being obnoxious IMO
When I did the secondary pipes, it made little change to the sound with the OEM muffler, so I could definitely see how it would still sound great with those in and the v2 mufflers 👍🏻
NICE!
Thanks!
Sounds fantastic. Will likely purchase this on my 986 as well.
Do it! Hard to beat the price.
Love the anniversary edition, hope to own one in the future. Enjoyed the videos.
I hope you do as well 🙏🏻 Thanks for watching
@Lenarto Garage, where did you purchase your LCI tail lights?
BayOptiks
@@LenartoGarage plug and play?
does it drone on the freeway?
Yeah, drone is there. You can drive around it though by maintaining certain rpms.
@@LenartoGarageWhat RPMs are affected if you can be specific? Trying to see if this is dailyable lol
@@TheperfusionistisalreadygoneI’ve been driving it more on the highway and it’s really not bad. I don’t have to make an effort to drive around the drone. I’d say go for it!
@@LenartoGarage Nicee alright thanks
Pretty quiet huh? I think this might be perfect if so!
Yeah, it’s a pretty good balance at the moment. I’m unsure about the headers. I should probably fix the 2nd gear grind first 😄
Sounds great! How’s the drone at highway speed?
Yeah, drone is there. You can drive around it though by maintaining certain rpms.
Sounds nice! Did you experience any type of check engine light with the catless test pipes? What year is your 986?
No CEL with the secondary pipes. You will get a CEL if you do catless headers. My 986 is a 2004. FYI, I posted a video with several sound clips.
Sound clip video posted! kzread.info/dash/bejne/iJ-mw86upKecZLA.htmlsi=ZcPMbevM5BcM1Q3_
Try shifting into second with an overhand grip so you are pulling more into your body than pulling straight back. Also does second shift better or easier after warming up and cruising at highway speed?
At this point I’ve tried all angles haha. 2nd gear is definitely toast. It does seem to get better when everything is up to temp, but it doesn’t eliminate the issue.
Get the transmission fluid good and hot with some spirited driving then change it. Preferences are for the OEM transmission fluid over others. Might need to do this once or twice if the fluid wasn’t serviced regularly to get out the gunk.
Please include the test drive next time. cheers
Will do. I’m still figuring out the GoPro setup. The mic on the GoPro 8 sucks with wind noise so I need to get a good mic setup and/or a newer GoPro. I’ll figure it out!
In the early 2000’s Porsche engineers all failed the “oil leaks and how to prevent them “ class.
🤣
Link to the locking ring tool in the description!
Your project car is in much better shape than mine! My 2002 986 is needing big work. I have a whole new front suspension, most of the rear, variocams to do, any number of minor issues too. Already done wheels, door lock, central locking, etc. I don't think you need to go to the stealer for the key problem, you should consult youtube and ebay for key fixes. Watching your progress with interest.
Sounds like a fun project. Happy wrenching 🔧
Had your same 2nd gear grind or it would pop out, did the front engine mount and now it back to normal shifting including 2nd gear. Thank you for your video,
I’m glad to hear the front motor mount replacement fixed it for you. It’s looking like I’ll need to replace 2nd gear and the syncro
@@LenartoGarage look forward to the video
I am two weeks into Boxster ownership and these videos are super great. Please keep it up!
Congrats on the recent purchase! Will do! Lots left to do on the car!
Solid video! Need to do the AOS on mine, this will be a huge help
Do you know what the stock gap is?
I believe factory is 0.030
@@LenartoGarage Did you get rid of your G82 for the F90?
@@zerixzerix3039 Yep. I just sold the F90 now as well. Picked up a 2024 GMC Sierra 1500 Denali Ultimate. I still have the 986 boxster as my fun car. I may pick up a 997 4s after I’m done fixing up the boxster. I’m leaning towards smaller and older sports cars to get more excitement/feel out of them.
That was a fun lesson 😅 you’re the real mvp
Thank you 🙏🏻
Thats a 550 special edition, like mine.
Yep! Which number do you have?
hi, has anyone had any problems with this new tank.
Couple hundred miles and no issues.
I have exactly the same exhaust. Installed it to day 1 hour of driving. No leeks perfect fitment, but the drone is there between 2000-3000 rpm after that it is fine. Someone told me to drive it for a week, then it will be less loud. But as today I would go back to stock
Yeah there’s drone. It’s a weekend car so I’m not too worried about the drone. You can drive around it.
Did you get a check engine light after the install? Wondering if the high flow would pass inspection instead of going fully catless
You will get a check engine light. A tune will suppress it, but the car won’t go into readiness state and you won’t pass emissions.
@@LenartoGarage If the car cannot pass emissions with the high flow cats what was you reasoning for using them over catless? To keep sound and smell down?
@@drewsharps8179Smell and sound. I figured catless would result in more drone.
I have #779. Yours has a replacement muffler tailpipe, not the oem overlapping.
What gives that away?
I'm thinking about the exact same kit. I hope it works for you and I'll be following. Thank you for posting.
Thanks! So far I’m liking it. Good tone at all rpms. I am curious what it would sound like with high flow headers though!
Unbelievably helpful video. Thanks a ton for posting this.
Glad I could help!
As said in other comments, the head unit is oem. It’s an upgrade that Porsche put out to give owners of older cars some modern entertainment options
It’s amazing that Porsche did that! I love it 👏🏼
Looks good. I would be curious how the drone is at sustained highway speed. I had an eBay exhaust on my 97 Boxster and finally had to remove it because of the drone. But this has the x-pipe, so maybe better.
I haven’t done a highway cruise with the top up, but I would imagine there would be some drone. Once I have the car back together (replacing the AOS this weekend), I’ll post another video reviewing the exhaust.
Thanks for the Boxster videos! We just picked up a nice 2000 S after passing on an 03 that had 2nd gear grind. But I need to work on the cables because it does not self center very well when cold, making it difficult to tell 1st from reverse.
Congrats on the new boxster! Yeah it won’t be cheap for me to fix the 2nd gear grind but should be a fun project to take the transmission apart.
Shouldve just bought a 911
Maybe for the next project car 🔧
Nah, 911 has no soul.
I was looking for a Spyder but ended up buying a Carmona red metallic base with a full saddle leather interior and a 5 speed manual. I'm still looking for a Spyder but the only one available in Canada right now is a complete turd. Just have to be patient. Enjoyed the vid.
Try a race grade gearbox oil first
I tried changing the transaxle oil with liquid moly hypoid gear oil. No change unfortunately. The oil looked decent surprisingly. Not too much debris in there.
