11:27 I feel Elliot overacts his role. Now Buck Taylor here, he stays right in the sweet spot, not too much, not too little. Just like he did in Tombstone.

The most accurate thing in this portrayal is the sound of the bugs in the background. I live on a civil war battlefield and hear those things every year.

In this battle especially ,some of the officers were good friends at West Point but chose to fight on opposing sides. Lee himself was approached to lead the Union army but instead was loyal to the South

Possibly the worst thing that could happen to a soldier on either side was to suffer a grievous wound. The chances you would die from infection were much greater than your chances of survival.

I don't mind watching scenes here and there of this movie. The attention to detail from the uniforms to the locations to the acting are all very solid. This movie had a chance to be truly great but the sequences drag on and the constant musical interludes make it sometimes feel like a Hallmark movie. It veers towards a syrupy sentimentality. It has an ensemble set of fine actors, but the direction and script are lacking. With that said the movie still has merit. It's more visually digestible in these shot form clips then watching the whole thing in one fell swoop, where one can be forgiven for losing interest despite the immediacy of historical events portrayed within.

This is one of my favorite films. The casting was spot on and the actors gave very moving performances. Sam Elliot, Martin Sheen, Tom Berenger and so many others gave such brilliant performances. I like to watch this on a cold winters day during a snow storm when there is nothing to do.

The high ground. Gen lee learned nothing about fredricksburg. Pickets charge was dam neer a carbon copy of maryes hights. The slaughter was impressive. They at least got over the stone wall for a bit il give them that. Fredericksburg the irish had seen multiple attempts fail and absolutely knew they were marching straight into hell. If that ain’t bravery i have no idea what is. Also not many know. Abe Lincoln got pickett his spot at west point. And picket never spoke a ill word ever of him

Problem I have with sam Elliot lines here, if Lee took those hills he could be surrounded if Meade surrounded them. That town of Gettysburg didn't have unlimited supplies. The fact that in Lee's mind that they won the first day was the only reason he stayed to fight.
