It has been my very great privilege to know this extraordinary man and musician, for the past several years. He epitomizes the 'renaissance man'. As well as making this beautiful middle eastern music, he is a devoted singer (bass) in several choirs and a huge fan of J. S. Bach. The deeply rich sound that he achieves with the ney is what we need to hear in troubled times. Thank you Kees.

Amazing. I remember when I was doing my Undergrad degrees at Tehran university we had few instructors who used to play classical music good and those who did so where often foreign nationals. You reminded me those. What intrigues me a lot is that you play Ney my once primary instrument back when I hadn't changed my discipline to engineering. I really like to see foreigners playing Iranian instruments.

Sir, as someone who've been playing ney for more than a decade and studied music in Iran, it's so interesting to see someone who origins certainly not from an immediate neibourin states of Iran and has gone so far into Persian music. I'm really obsessed with the whyness of this endevour and pursuit of Persian music which is so uncommon for foreigners especially from far West. I appreciate what you are doing and have done and got a question I'll be grateful if you answer: why someone probably from North America should learn Persian music and put so much time as to going into Radif stuff? It is so common for people from East to learn Western music be it classical or folklore but learning Persian Music for someone from West must have an interesting reason especially for someone like me to know. Thnx

Very nice playing dear Kees , I learned alot about persian ney on your wonderful website despite being an iranian myself I found your website the most useful resource on persian ney better than any other website or book . I noticed your recent video and cannot resist thinking about the similarities between ney and the recorder specially after I heard the very sad news of Jamshid Andalibi passing away yesterday from heart attack and the wonderful segah you played on the recorder from Andalibi and his fellow citizens (the Kamkars) album .
Sad to hear that, I'll have to make some sort of tribute video. To play like him has been my (unattainable) goal the last 35 years.

Thank you for teaching and providing the fingering for the Persian notes, it is extremely helpful! Yes, there is definitely interest in the topics you mentioned in the description. You inspired me to buy a recorder and I am now trying to play along! It's definitely easier than ney to begin with, haha. Could you please play more songs on the recorder and maybe also post or link to the note sheet? And one last request would be to please face the camera or slightly left so we can more clearly see the fingerings. Thanks so much!
