Regarding primes for rhythm, that's a neat method I've not used. How I've used primes is via a clock divider. I have a master clock running at some rate equivalent to the fastest burst or drum fill I want, then divide that down to run sequencers / rhythm generators. @@yourpalrob I've been building and incrementally improving a really big patch I call the "RackDAW." It mimics some features of a DAW like Ableton or Bitwig. One of these days I'll get busy and release it on Patchbay with a video on how to use it. The current version is a virtual audio-engineer's console, integrated with the studio microphones (using the VCV Audio-8 module). Microphone arming, transport control, channel & master volume & panning, and manual chord selection is mapped to a LaunchKey49 controller. Mic input, sample recorder, and multiple sample playback thru one "Mic Submixer" (I like the Venom modular mixers). A 2nd 4-channel submixer for background loops & VCV patches is sent to a side-chained compressor (sidechain input from Mic Submixer), then on to a master mixer. All mixer channels controlled by the Launchkey faders & pan/mute controls. The "RackDAW" doesn't make any sounds on its own. It's just the audio engineering infrastructure. I export all my good drone sounds as "Clips" instead of saving them as patches. I run the RackDAW as the actual patch, then import a saved Clip to add a saved soundscape. Clips don't need to be wired to an audio-output module. Instead, I wire them to a Venom 4-channel mixer strip before saving the clip. Then, from within the RackDAW patch, I can simply import the clip I want, wire its output to an open channel, then with the controller keyboard, unmute it and set the volume levels. I use the Record/Play section of the Launchkey's transport control section to manage microphone arming (Record button), loop reset (Stop button), loop clear (Undo button), etc. I like the "Lilac Loop" module for live looping. I plan to make a video of my RackDAW patch and publish it on Patchbay, but at the moment I'm deep in the middle of an audiobook project.

Great tutorial! One question - at 9:40, couldn't you connect the Caudal module directly to μMap and just use the offset & scale? Seems redundant to put an offset module and an attenuvertor inbetween.
@yourpalrobАй бұрын
Thank you for the comment, @AB-wf8ek! You totally can just use the μMap's offset and scale; however, I find the additional attenuverter easier to dial in than the μMap alone. μMap's controls are very sensitive in my experience so having a module with a little more wiggle room helps me. If you want a slick minimal module set up, you should totally skip out on the redundant modules :)

The thing i don't get about this module is: how is it different from a having a set of pitches and triggering them at random intervals? Without some pattern to the triggers for the listener to pick up on, what's the point?
@yourpalrobАй бұрын
You could make this module with other modules, similarly to many other modules, but this one is conveniently packaged and has evolving tones and trigger times with a nice display. You don't need to have a set pattern with these triggers to make pleasant music. The continuity can be produced in the key and a rhythm from other modules could glue it together. Even that isn't necessary for ambient patches.

Great tutorial! One question - at 9:40, couldn't you connect the Caudal module directly to μMap and just use the offset & scale? Seems redundant to put an offset module and an attenuvertor inbetween.
@@yourpalrob Nice, okay just checking if there was something I was missing. Thanks for the reply!
Is this what turning the wet knob all the way up does? 😂
Haha! Yes, 😂
Awesome stuff man! Subscribedddd
Thank you, @psychrockvinyl! I'm glad you like the content so far!
Can make this a sleep machine!
Totally right! It would be a good one with the sounds set to gentle modulations.
For tuning oscillators, if the knob lets you put in a value in Hz when you right click it, you can put in pitches like "E5" and VCV will set the knob to the frequency for that pitch. That right click menu also lets you put in math expressions.
Solid! Thank you for mentioning this. VCV Rack is awesome.
I really love all your single module description videos! I've learned so much :) thank you
Right on! I'm glad they are useful to you. Those are my favorite videos to make too! 😁
Nice 👍🏻
Thank you, @TheVoltar100 😁
The first module I used and it works immediately xD
Lol! Thank you for the comment @czesc_xyz! This module has a big update since this video and it has an expander now too. I need to make an update video.
Nerd tutorial wanted!
Right on! Thank you @aaronrosenthal5310! I'm going to work on a math video 😁
The thing i don't get about this module is: how is it different from a having a set of pitches and triggering them at random intervals? Without some pattern to the triggers for the listener to pick up on, what's the point?
You could make this module with other modules, similarly to many other modules, but this one is conveniently packaged and has evolving tones and trigger times with a nice display. You don't need to have a set pattern with these triggers to make pleasant music. The continuity can be produced in the key and a rhythm from other modules could glue it together. Even that isn't necessary for ambient patches.
Excellent tutorial 👍🏻 from France
Stack from BogAudio is the ideal tool for transposing a CV sequence.
True! That's a great module!
Can you do another vid using this and teletype
Yeah! I haven't used Teletype yet however so I'll have to learn it first. Thank you for the comment, @sinistar3198!
Hey, thanks for making this excellent walkthrough of Proteus! Currently working on turning Proteus into a hardware module.
Hey @bluenautilus! Thank you for the comment and the awesome modules! Proteus is a killer module that so many people enjoy. I'm sure folks are excited to see it in hardware 😁. Thanks again!
I could imagine Rob talking about audio hertz/frequency with an intro like: _"Sir, excuse me sir! Do you have a moment to talk about our Lord and Saviour, 432Hz?"_
Lol! 420.69Hz is almost A flat. Definitely the Lord and Savior frequency.
@@yourpalrob Heh! Sounds like a tuning Toby Fox would use for his music. _Queue in Megalovania_ I need to learn how to play that, one day.
I'll keep an eye out for the video of you shredding on it! 😁
@@yourpalrob Doubt I could come close to RichaadEB's version though 😂
Lol, you're being modest.
Saturday morning VCV tute with Rob! Nice. Btw, you’re getting funnier.
Haha! Thank you, @samigumiran6174. I've been trying to make videos where folks might learn something but also have a little laugh. I'm glad it's working 😄
Hot damn
😉
Love your "straight to the point" method in your videos. I'm a complete beginner in this modular synth stuff and I find your approach to be very intuitive and easy to follow and learn. Can't wait to watch more of your old stuff and newer stuff in the near future :D
Thank you, @simonherbert4089! I'm glad you like the content so far and that it has been useful to you. Also welcome to the modular synth world! 🤘😁
Fellow nerd here. I have a method (and a spreadsheet) for calculating notes for both 12EDO and 31EDO. Interested in your approach. I humbly request the calculating video
Oh dang a spreadsheet! That's awesome. lol, I'll totally make a math video.
Yay! Gimme that nerd mathemagic stuff man.
I'm going to shoutout the dev's youtube channel here too youtube.com/@bluenautilus?si=rlfztLNTcE582O0l
🤓 hell yeah!
All the patches in this video have been added to my patch collection. ✌️😁
I like this kind of stuff.
✌️😁 Thank you! @petjamsto9058
Beautiful tutorial, so much to explore. Thank you!
Thank you! It is such a great module with so many features. Tons to explore, just like you said 😁
so helpful! thank you!!
Thank you, @kadrikblatt. I'm glad you liked it 😁
Last melody is very catchy
Thank you, @radcliffe2192! That patch is included in my patch collection which is totally free on my Ko-fi page if you want to check it out. The title of that one is "Swing Example" lol. Please feel free to use it or adapt it in any way.
really efficient solid tutorial- subscribed!
Thank you! 😁 I'm glad you liked it. Many more to come!
