Real Talk Mental Health

Real Talk Mental Health

Real Talk Mental Health is located in Vancouver, Washington, and is hosted by 3 of the area's top psych nurse practitioners. Real Talk Mental Health exists to give behind-the-scenes information and advice on mental health topics like depression, anxiety, OCD, and ADHD. They also discuss different treatment options, describing what the process looks like and how effective it has been in studies.

Too often they hear from new patients that their previous providers weren't listening to them and they felt lost. With Real Talk Mental Health they want to pull back the curtain on the healthcare system and help more people navigate their way back to being mentally healthy.

Brendan Roe, Julia Swofford, and Piper Buersmeyer own TMS NW and MedRX Partners in Vancouver, WA, and Tigard, OR, and have helped hundreds of patients defeat their battle with mental illness. I'm booked in for TMS treatment and this has really put me off. I'm severely depressed, and you're literally saying you have to be disciplined and motivated, with a can-do attitude and a pep in your step, or treatment won't work. Seriously? You think this is helpful? Do you understand depression or not? What an annoying and unhelpful video.

What a surprise. An antidepressant that causes suicidal thoughts , or may not get rid of depression. Oh yea and the bladder problems if you ask doctors about the side effects they ignore you. While big pharma gets richer off your misery. Anti depressants cause MORE DEPRESSION!!!

Here’s something the three of you should know. People with ADHD get bored easily. Playing the same ten note pattern over and over again in the background becomes the only thing I can hear. Also, if you really need to have music playing in the background hire a sound editor or at least lower the volume.

I had 8 unresponsive medications and did not respond to 32 sessions of TMS. It was because after 16 years and 6 psychiatrists later, I had undiagnosed ADHD. Ever since the age of 14, I had mental health providers say my trouble focusing was just depression when it wasn't. It was only after the TMS therapy that any mental health providers started to believe me when I said there was something else going on. You can't stimulate serotonin production to get out of a dopamine deficit in the brain. Edit to add: The TMS clinic I went to had a cookie cutter approach with only one treatment protocol for everyone, and doctor on site only 2 days per week. I pretty much had zero access to anyone to voice my concerns during the treatment. Despite them saying the machine wouldnt stimulate motor nerves, I would have either my eyelid or my fingers twitch no matter how they placed the coil.

Well that was a whole lot of nothing. It doesn't clearly help any patient, and ofcourse it can't replace talk therapy or medications, because they simply want to add one more overpriced scam to the docket, the whole of which could be replaced with good diet and lifestyle.

How long does it last? For the cost, 250-300$ per session X 20-40 sessions .. 🇨🇦 not covering it yet. Work insurance only covers whatever mental health coverage limit is. This definitely should be covered by our provincial insurance..

I’m 55 and I’ve struggled with depression and anxiety for as long as I can remember. I can function well enough to get by most of the time using drugs, counseling, exercise, diet and other interventions. It’s a delicate balance and I still fall into periods of major depression frequently. In a good year I’ll only have one or two. My primary care doctor just suggested TMS. I’m trying to decide. I’m in the US, so access to any care means fighting an insurance company. I’m trying to decide if it’s worth the fight. My biggest fear is that I’ll achieve partial success or that I’ll see improvement only to have it snatched away because the insurance company doesn’t cover follow up treatments.

We have a Black Sea City with low intensity magnetic beach in Republic of Georgia. it's a low intensity magnetic beach created by river, which brings black Magnetite sand from mountains and deposits it on the area. In times of Soviet Union it was heaven for kids with bone disease and cardiovascular problems. You go there in Summer, stay 2 weeks, enjoy beach every day and simultaneously getting treatment. Sounds good? when you first go there the sand sticks to your skin, but after 10 day spend there, I guess magnetic balance restores and it does not stick any more.

Wow, I'm at 7:30 and feel I'm being lectured to, and it's about as demeaning as people who say 'pull yourself together and snap out of it' to a clinically depressed or suicidal person. You can tell this lady has no idea what the lived experience of severe depression is, and is clueless as to how stressful she makes 'recovery' sound. How awful.

  • @paulbergey1917

I have heard its fine to take medication while being treated. You may find after your treated fully you may need less medication or you may need the same amount of medication. I would think it is determined by you and your doctor. I am not a medical professional but have been researching this treatment and intend to start TMS very soon. I wish you well on your mental health journey. It will be a winding road but stay strong you are worthy and your family and loved ones need and want you in their lives.

All I can say is that my nephew is doing the treatment. I literally found out yesterday, he’s off of EVERYTHING! I haven’t asked if it was his choice or his doctors guidance. But going all natural after 30 years of being on SSRIs and benzodiazepine/Adderall I think I would explode. Most likely end myself, so how the F is this possible if you need to be clean!? I wish they could just put me in a coma to detox from years of pharmaceutical poisons. 🤔 I wonder if that’s a thing…..

I don’t even sweat that bc I 💯 understand him, I’m kinda the same way. But the last thing he gave up is the weed and alcohol. Which I was really happy to hear. He used those two things mildly tho, nothing crazy. Like a joint every other day and a few beers in between, but he becomes someone else while under the influence. I’m just glad he stopped that shit
