Excellent distinction between simply maintaining through small changes and proactive, energetic leadership required for large changes. "Change Leadership" is about big vision changes that will empower many to move an organization forward in long-term success.

He seems not to be well in this video. A frown is prevailing in his face, and the smile is absent. He doesn't even use eye contact with the camera. He was elaborating on leadership with management elements.

The sad part with 0.001% is that we live in the "how-to" (unconscious) world. Everybody, especially Western Governments (hierarchies), engage an army (stampedo) of people who "dogmatically" follow higher orders. In no exact order, everybody is busy promoting/preaching/hiding incompetence/demanding/etc expertise in "how to" Quality Management, followed by "how to" Six Sigma, then "how to" Project Management, Change Management, Business Analysis, Business Process Management, Risk Management, Lean, Lean Six Sigma, Digital Transformation, Business Transformation, Smart Cities, Sustainability, Liveability, gold medals craze/superiority complex, Customer Centricity/CX/UX/CRM/Voice of customer/Kano/Customer Experience Management/Net score ... ... supported by disconnected courses, certifications, associations, new levels, podcasts, webinars ... ... Capability Frameworks for Workforce/Talent Management based on behavioural interviewing (yet no Leadership quotient/Maslow/Herzberg promise)... It is a crazy/incompetent/arrogant/narcissistic world in the remaining 99.999%. I assume Martin Luther King was assassinated because he used one word that could collapse this whole hierarchical thinking nightmare: Dream i.e. Imagine/Engage/Consider/Curious/Share etc. And yet, none of the above solutions/bodies of knowledge/repackaged courses teach the mindset or the meta knowledge about the why and what i.e. the Iceberg model. There is only "how-to", then sell yourself for money/cruises/debts/photos of strawberries etc. However, there is the "gold vein" of 0.001% for those willing to dig deeper or search longer i.e. real life proven practices, unfortunately strategically ignored/marginalised in the world driven by those who control/use/abuse English language (lingua franca) for news/propaganda/political/celebrity purposes: - (Japan) Kazuo Inamori "Amoeba Management" (Business acumen) - (USA) Deming and Crosby 14 points (Quality is about Business culture) - (Brazil) Ricardo Semler (Democracy in business, including Amoeba management) - (USA) Jack Stack/Robert Kiyosaki (Open Book Management, employees are all: employees, business owners, and shareholders; with good business acumen achieve David Marquet's message in society) - (USA) David Marquet (Leadership, transformed US Navy) - (Denmark) Lars Kolind (Innovation, Unboss, Chinese miracles) - (Israel) Eliyahu Goldratt (Theory of Constraints, POOGI) - (Spain) Mondragon (Cooperative) - (Bangladesh) Muhammad Yunus (Eliyahu Goldratt in Society) - (UK) John Seddon (Services measured by customers/patients, not by activities/illnesses) - (UK) Dave Brailsford (1% improvements, compounding effect) - (Veolia/Romania) DARE!: Behind The Scenes Of The Best Business Transformation Project In The World (Businesses organised around capabilities, like a pilot's cockpit - integration of people, process and technologies, not people behaviours only as in job description) - etc In essence, what we need is the quartet of: - system thinking - critical thinking - inversion thinking - prayers (with closed eyes to activate alpha, theta and delta brainwaves i.e. subconscious)

Its easier said than done to get someone out of a project of change that is crucial to other processes within the company when they don't agree.Usually it is not upper management that disagrees with change. Mischief is really something.

Dr John Kotter's talk is actually a critique of a traditional management mindset. Consider: positive provocations. For example, print book titles from a broad range of books on a specific idea/problem/etc, say Leadership. Then, challenge people to organize those titles into meaningful groups, identify flows/scenarios, ask questions, list insights, etc. Raise the acumen, improve communication, trigger creative energy, elevate internal drive for action. If done right, the tension between your current situation and a better future will create a pull of action plans. See the Structural tension charting (STC) method and POOGI from The Theory of Constraints, too. Enjoy the ride!

The talk lacks context, specifics, history, goals, process, etc. A better theme would be: how to improve a dysfunctional workplace. What about Deming's 95:5 ratio of system vs people causes of problems?
