    I only do max. 5mm acrylic and wood on a Sculpfun S9. Would a motorized Z benefit me and if so is the Neje Max 4 carriage available separately (No laser, no NEMA 17)? Or are the other alternative Z addons available?

  • @HookedonWood
    @HookedonWood3 күн бұрын

    Perhaps with engraving some slight differences in height can be beneficial. But besides that, with 5mm there is not much benefit for z axis movement

    IIT'S A GREAT IDEA!! I just met you (I haven't seen your other channel) but this one seems to me to have a very good future. It is a pleasure to find a channel where people speak peacefully, without believing that in order to get attention you have to raise your voice. These types of videos tend to be very stressful. I tell you that I have worked with a CO2 laser for a long time (since 2009). I recommend that you pay close attention and do not neglect it because it is more powerful than the diode lasers you are used to. When an already cut piece falls on the honeycomb, if the laser cuts another neighboring piece, the one that fell could catch fire if it were in the laser's path. You cannot stop controlling this machine while it is working, if you have to go drink water or take a call, pause it! I congratulate you on your content and the way you communicate it. Good luck!

    😂using acrylic to raise the piece to be worked is not recommended, you risk ruining it when the laser cuts the piece. also why did you hang the plaque behind you that youtube sends to channels with over 100 thousand subscribers? but take it off, you'll make a better impression

  • @HookedOnLasers
    @HookedOnLasersАй бұрын

    That is exactly why it absorb the laser beam. So, yes with every cut it will damage, but it will take a long time before you have to replace it. The plaque is for my other channel, but if you do not mind, I don't want to redo my workshop because I want to talk about lasers.

    Just came across your channel. Love the video. Do you happen to have a link to files for the honeycomb acrylic inserts/rails? I think this would be a good option to help me level the area for large sheets. My bed area is about 3’ x 2’ but the honeycomb bed is not level. So the laser comes out of focus on large cuts. With the acrylic rails I can cut some a little taller/shorter to compensate and get things level.

  • @HookedonWood
    @HookedonWood2 ай бұрын

    For cutting Acrylic I would invest in a Co2 laser. You can laser black Acrylic, but it is not as nice as with a Co2 laser. Especially when you want to sell something like that, I do not think it has the quality you want to offer.

    One thing i havnt got an answer to watching some videos. Do i need some kind of exhaust for the fumes/smoke from lasers? How do i solve that? I guess my smoke alarm will go crazy, and what about my lungs?

  • @HookedonWood
    @HookedonWood6 ай бұрын

    Yes, you need some kind of box to place the laser in with an exhaust fan. Depending on what you want to do, this fan should be stronger. These lasers have become more and more powerful. And when you cut thicker wood, you burn more, and this smoke has to leave. Too much smoke can set on the lens, which can burn. The second reason is your health. The third reason is that when you have a good solution for this, you will use it much more. Such a box does not have to be complex. Keep some holes in it, so it can extract some air when the fan is running.

    If you got the extra money get the X tool if you’re ok with its size I would pick X-Tool. The Neje really has no instructions, also had to build the relay for the air assist. Neje works well but I had to invest a dozen hours into KZread videos to figure it out. In my case I need the larger work area.

    So if you only wanted to buy one laser, and the cost wasn’t a factor, I assume the Gwieke Cloud is the better purchase due to greater usability?

  • @HookedonWood
    @HookedonWood8 ай бұрын

    I like the fact you can cut acrylic with the Gweike Cloud. But when woodworking is your main thing, and you will use it to create templates, this is the one. The size is so much bigger, especially with the extension kit. You can make relatively large templates. I like the Gweike Cloud for its build quality and how they ship it. The new versions do have a good automatic focus, and it has more power. For a Diode laser, this Neje would be my choice. The 20 watt is powerful enough and there is a good change that when the laser units itself would be even more powerful in a way it will make a difference, you can change it in the future for that one.

    Got my max 4 yesterday, took me 3 hours to get it fired up. Very frustrating to build with no written instructions and no prior experience/knowledge of lasers. Now I’m trying to figure out how to adjust the head for focus. Is it done on the machine or the software or a combination of the two? Haven’t found a video explaining that.

    I lowered 6mm total. Bit that leaves not that much space left. And because the honeycomb panel was not completely flat, this was the result. Did not have the time to do it over and it would not change the outcome by much.

    Can this laser engrave correctly for example if you are engraving across a picture frame that has different heights? Or would that only be the case if you design the picture frame in Fusion, cut it on a cnc and then engrave with this laser. Which of course would be a lot of work.

  • @AlAmantea

    If the Z axis has even travel distance to handle the frame, then yes. this could be done.

    Still no 3D printers... :poke: :^). Good luck with the new channel. I suspect at some point I may get one - it just needs a home and I'm too tight. I'm working (it seems to be on the long range time line) on a RC balsawood airplane and the short kit was laser cut, but some bits don't fit all that well (I think they used the original die cut bits to program it, frankly the whole kit could stand to be redrawn in CAD so the lines are better) so this would be a real boon for redoing some parts.

    I got this answer from Neje. Because after Brexit, goods from our European warehouses cannot be sent to the UK. Many logistics do not support sending to the UK and can only be shipped from China. However, shipping from China requires high freight and tariffs. We have currently transported a batch of goods to the UK and they are still on the way. They will arrive at the warehouse around November. We suggest that he wait for a while before ordering products shipped from the UK.
