Hey y'all,
My name is Jess and I'm a twenty-something year old Nigerian girl navigating life. I am a CPA with aspirations to go to law school and become a corporate lawyer. This channel is going to have pre-law & law related videos, career videos, lifestyle videos, and vlogs. Follow me on my journey!

Are you American? Asking because I'm Canadian and I think the markets are substantially different. I'm thinking about going into accounting. I'm not sure if I have the drive to finish the CPA though. I've already done quite a bit of school, bachelors in Economics and Finance, Masters in Economics, and a law degree. I am a bit burnt out and because I could do trials I don't have the pressure like I had before where I had the feeling like I had to do it. I'm not sure how I will do without that pressure when my alternative option is decent. I was thinking of starting an accounting firm where we do the clients' tax returns with a requirement that we also do your bookkeeping. Then I can work as a tax lawyer when my clients have issues. I think the money would be very good, probably lifetime income would be higher, but I would probably only make 40-50g's a year for almost 3 years until I reach the work requirement to get the CPA.
Thank you for telling me what that meant to you! Salary expectations were lower than I thought.
you know what you sign up for. we all did and if EY os the worst but you got other options.
Knowing what you signed up for is no excuse for being unappreciated and mistreated in the workplace but yeah sure whatever you say 😂🤦🏾♀️
Did you get overtime pay or you were salary?
Hi Jess, I truly enjoyed your video. If you're an accounting graduate, do you think a bookkeeping certification can help you if you want to be a small business accountant? Thx.
Expectations at a public accounting firm are pretty high. You can’t be somebody who is not a fast learner. I worked at an accounting firm. I was fired after 6 months for poor performance. I came into that job with zero experience. They expect you to hit the ground running even if you have no experience.
You will never be rich working for a big 4 without selling your soul. If you have any imagination, avoid accounting altogether.
thank you, good to know👍 that explains some of those Monty Python sketches
this has given me a better idea of how to approach the accounting career im pursuing. Thank you for the insight!
All worth it
Just finished my degree!
Would you say obtaining a diploma in business accounting is worth it
I think the impression of seen easy because of stem major switch to accounting; on the other hand, accounting is better than all business degree and requires to be high work ethic.
Did you only focus on MCQ's and sims when studying? Did you take notes or watch the videos?
I think Finance is harder. Accounting sounds repetitive. Finance sounds more complex and their math is harder than accounting. T.T going back to college to finish bachelors. <3 your videos. thank you for the information online. God bless you sister.
Hello, Jess. I came across this video, and I wanted to get your opinion on something. can someone become an accountant at the age of 40 years old?
Ofc
No age limit
It seems that the condition vary significantly accross different countries. In my country the conditions are way worse. Check the working conditions in your specific country.
Am accounting major and I have to do a lot of daily studying in order to keep up because is not an easy major. My professor said that Accounting is the language of business and as we enter the class we are accountants not student and to act like it. Am loving it 😍 but without the daily study I would be lost
For new Accountants, or anyone having an interest in accounting. you can now sit for the CPA exam, while having only 120 credits as of 2024. By the time you get 150 credits, you can get your licenses. meaning If I have 120, I can start taking some of the sections of the CPA, while obtaining my last 30 credits for my CPA requirement. Hope this helps!
can you get a cpa online
not for every state
Girl you are gorgeous 😍😍😍😍 wow somebody call an modeling agency because this girl right here 😍😍😍
Yeah no idc not going to big 4. I just want a comfortable, fair job with room for growth. Not gonna let some selfish higher ups take advantage of me.
Im currently going into my junior year in Hs(CO 2025). Im just wondering how many years of college(total) i would need to be completely done with this profession in terms of college. Also, I am also wondering what level of math you would need to major in accounting. Im currently 1 level below what i am supposed to be at, for some reason i got put down a math level in my freshman year, and didnt have time to change it. Im just very concerned that a college wont accept me because my math level is lower than the average person.
You can visit the college website of the program and see their degree map to see what math courses are in it
Managing school and internships?
What are the big 4?
KPMG, EY, pWc & Delloitte
Having a few years experience from big4 environment this video is on point. Good benefits for first paying job. Proceed with realistic expectations… Performance based companies, much less opportunities than those being marketed. Highly skewed salaries time/reward. Not clear criteria for promotions…
The big four sound like fresh-meat graduate mills. Churning all the time from what I'm seeing.
I will counter on the cpa and 150 credit hour expectations. If you are wanting to go into any audit or tax area they will push a cpa. If you want to do more financial statement or asc accounting or sec reporting in a corporate company they will require a cpa. I went into corporate accounting with property, gl, inventory, even revenue accounting they will not push the cpa exam or being a cpa. I have had many bosses with no cpa certification. You can make cfo levels in many small and medium size companies with no cpa certification. Plus the work life balance is leaps and bounds better.
what do the CFOs in those companies make?
I'm a finance major and am currently getting my accounting degree in order to go for my cpa. I'm older and hope I can keep up with you 20yr olds. This video was great and you got straight to the point with clear concise info that I needed to hear. I hope you're practicing law now. 😊
Please turn off the hip hop music in the background. I cannot hear you and the music simultaneously! I'll move to another channel.
I can hear her fine.
Not even loud
Do not work for the big 4 if you have no interest in accounting/ audit. If you are accounting major you would be better off in the industry than the big 4. It's a very toxic military environment with insolent frustrated superiors who want to ruin your morale and confidence. Don't start your career there, please.
Great advice! I liked how you talked about each test. I’m going to start studying soon! I only have 2 classes left in my masters program!
Starting next week, I’m nervous about it given I had two kids at a young age, if there is any advice out there please let me know!!
get a vasectomy
I really enjoyed the video! I am incredibly late to the party, but I do have question in regards to the prospects of remote work in the Accounting field. Like, is it a possibility at all? Could it be something you have to earn down the road? Maybe something you can find before graduation? Or like, its not even possible? I appreciate the info though
How can I reach 150 credits, while spending the least amount of money possible? I really don’t wanna take summer or winter classes but I will if I have to.
classes at community college
Hated my time at the big 4. Terrible work life balance. People glorify working long hours till midnight and later. Life is short - spend it with your friends and family. My private life is worth so much more than the money they could pay!
Thank you for this!
I don’t know anyone whoever thought Accounting is an easy Major lol 😅 Accounts Payable is tough..

Thanks for sharing. Going back to school for a career change and this is a good overview.
Thank you for sharing this!, very useful and helpful a lot!
I am an accounting major, and I feel stupid. Like I feel down most nights about it. Don't do full time school and full time work. I'm regretting my life decisions right now.
I’m in my junior year and just finished financial accounting last week. 😩🙌🏿 It wasn’t terribly hard, but I definitely had to put in a lot of study time. I work part time as well but decided to take a leave of absence until I finished the semester. Working full time is a lot, but you got it! Just take it one day at a time and prioritize. Edit: Also, don’t be ashamed to go to tutoring. I did a few times because I needed help, and the effort that I put into it paid off: I passed financial accounting with a 97.
@@breanneepperson4304 Undergrad or grad school?
@@ghostmc4451 undergrad
completely irrelevant to accounting as a major
I do full time work and full time school. It is definitely tough but not regretting anything at all
Thank you for sharing, this was a great way to start the day.
So what’s the BIG 4?
kpmg pwc deloitte ernst and young
Thank you for the links!!
Thank you for sharing ! I am having an interview with KMPG for internship this Friday.
I loved your video, it is vary accurate and I was an intern so the manager support could make a big different. in terns of performance evaluation I believe that relationship with the managers of the projects play a big role, Like I felt that I had to connect with them in other to be seeing and known, its savage but definitely good for the CV and career path. I felt that majority of people smiled but they were unhappy! thank you Jess for sharing
That sounds like Deloitte. I see a lot of expense reports with work boots and Uber trips
I graduated with a third class in accounting. It was not easy , but i thank God i graduated. I had to do a post graduate diploma to qualify to do an mba in financial management.
Very good and real comments! Totally agree with all of them. Thanks for this.
Hay quá
probably a very obvious question but do you have to be good at math to major in accounting
No you dont have to be good a math, she mentioned that in the video
If you were interested in law why did you go for accounting degree?
I wanted to have a corporate background before law school
@@JessETV What sounds harder to your ears? 1. Certified Public Accountant or 2. Masters Degree in Statistics?
@@mathematicaleconomist4943 The second will be more math heavy, are you ok with maths?
@@user-wl2rb3rh5c I am OK with math. But I want to know what instinctively sounds harder to most people because I want to know what my clients would think.
