Damn i was at Scott AFB that year and two years after deer hunting the base. Never had a problem getting a tag while i was there. The flight tower area is a great area. I hunted the base only 2-3 times a season as a backup location, never had luck there, saw the deer though

Best to trim off as much of the branch as possible, using the short cutting blade and rope pull mechanism, before using the saw blade to cut off the branch near the trunk of the tree. This will prevent the limb from breaking early and pulling off the bark off below the saw cut.

If I see people whining about how easy crossbow hunting is- I better not see them hunting with a compound bow. You've got the training weels on. Bowhunting lite. The free trial. The tutorial level. Pick up a recurve or longbow and then you can judge.

If it’s legal go for it. I’m not using Xbow anymore but only because I enjoy the added challenge of Compound. I used to hunt with recurve for 30 years and I hated compounds while hunting with recurve. (Xbow’s were not legal yet back then or I’d have really hated them. Again ridiculous) I feel foolish about feeling that way now. It’s all relative I guess? I’m even hunting Turkey with a Compound now. I shot a lot of Tom’s and big bucks with Xbow. It’s still not easy with Xbow, Compound, Recurve or Gun. It’s just if I have a 170”inch buck stand broadside at 10 yards, I will appreciate the kill more with the most primitive weapon I can use at the time. But that’s just me, you do you if legal. Plus hopefully Xbow’s get people their kill tags filled and meat and outta the woods sooner before November gets here.

It does concern me that our gun rights can be taken away and with everything going on in the world people will need to have a firearm to defend themselves. I will say, the majority of Michigan counties are 2A sanctuary counties. From what I have read, 2A counties actively dissuade officers from enforcing laws relating to gun control, red flag orders among them.

Compound bow guys come in two types: 1) The kind that stays out of it because they know better 2) The elitist fool who thinks he's an actual man because he's doing literally nothing unassisted by modern technology made to make him do no actual work or demonstrate any actual skill. It's at the point where some of these guys seriously think they're true archers simply because they use a vertical platform. To their ignorance that's where the similarities end when compared to actual archery.

The long bleat absolutely works. However I would say it 100% calls in does like a fawn ball . Every Doe I have had come in on a full bleat comes in with their mouth open and in a panic. They seem to be looking for other does from their group that have gone missing during the season . However Bucks like the thing to sound broken . The frustrating bad flip and that makes the call sound like you have the inner disc stuck to the side of the can is Buck sex talk . I do not like short burst but a full drop with out holding it fully vertical on the drop. You get this weird chuck chuck noise from the can and several broken bleats as you do. Another way I have made that can work is to shake the can and get a yeah yeah yeah yeah noise . It sounds insane but if you let the air out and then plug the hole and shake the bleat as it falls you get a YA YA YA YA sound that has given me over 20 large bucks to my credit. It is a secret noise that we have all made the can do inside when we mess with the can but I started using it in hunting when I saw my dogs react very excited when I was messing with the call around my pack. They reacted to the normal sounds the call makes with some interest but if I did the light shake as the inner disk falls and made the YA YA YA YA noise they would freak out in spazz . I have noticed a lot about calling other animals your pets will react to in similar ways. However I did not hunt with the silly noise until i was hunting in Barnes WI on a large stretch of public land i like to call the last free place in WI . A group of Does and two small bucks walked through a large swath of clear cut and all the Does were making that YA YA YA YA noise and responding to each other with similar noises . The Bucks with them would attack the Does making that noise the most and much breeding was done that day in front of this hidden hunters eyes. I watched 2 bucks breed 6 Does up and down the valley and every time the Buck would quit another doe would start with a YA YA YA type noise and the Buck would again gain his nerve and hump away. When the Bucks and Does had finally gone well down the valley i pulled out my Can and Copied the noise. Both bucks blasted back to me on the dead run from the does that they had been jumping all morning . Leaving the Does and running to see what new girls were on the ridge. After that I spent the rest of 2009 making that silly YA YA YA YA noise with The Can and i shot a 170 Buck who was chasing the noise . that was my first The Can Buck . It does not matter what season you are in . This YA YA YA YA noise works in Sept through Dec and into winter yarding. It sounds nuts but I have now killed a buck with that call in my hand every season since 2009 . It always works and there is no other call I would ever want in my hunting bag. If you want to really see something mind blowing . The Can Tipped and shook to make a YA YA YA YA noise will BLOW YOUR MINDS . It sounds like you are doing everything wrong when you do it but when you have Bucks running at you on public land with their heads down and tung out you become a believer QUICK ! .

Or try this, I carry a treble/triple fish hook in a small container with a loop of line on it and barb's squished/removed. Put it in that butt and pull so the 3 points bite, cut around the A hole while keeping tension verse trying to hold with fingers. Once cut around, just leave as is and then just go ahead and gut as normal pulling all that A hole section out with the rest of the guts. Cut the hook out again and wash etc. Cheap az, works mean, better than fumbling with fingers up that ol deers date hole lol, is real small to carry too
