Hi, my name is Larissa and I'm a plant nerd.
I'm also a journalist, and I've spent years writing about Sustainability and Politics for Brazilian publications.
Ever since I fell in love with houseplants I've been trying to understand them. What makes them grow faster? Why can some plants go for weeks without watering and some can't? Why are variegated plants so expensive?
I believe we can all be better plant parents if we actually get to understand how they work. This is my quest, and I'll share everything I learn with you. Subscribe to follow this exciting adventure. =)
I'm also on Instagram, where I share more of my everyday plant care: @ladislara.

Helpful video, thanks
I bought a marble queen about 10 years ago, and I've had it in three different houses. Initially, it looked exactly like the marble queen, but then I moved to a new house and put it in a spot that was a dim and never got direct sunlight. New shoots ended up growing off the plant near the base of the plant in the pot that had leaves thay were COMPLETELY green with no white at all. After a few years, I moved to a new house again that has the morning sun shining directly on it. New shoots ended up growing off the plant again at the base that ended up looking exactly like the snow queen. The thing is though that all three types of shoots are still growing leaves of their respective type. The shoot that has completely green leaves is still growing new leaves that are completely green. The original shoots are still growing leaves that look like the marble queen, and the new shoots are growing leaves that look like the snow queen. Its all one plant too!
What i can tell, might only be for young monsteras, its the way the stems part, monsteras like to grow stems from below the soil, but philodendrons look like the stems are splitting from the mother stem, and at the bottom of each smaller stem you can see these thin sails, i don’t know if this is necessarily correct, but I hope it helps regardless.
Such a helpful video! Thank you!
Thanks for sharing these valuable informations.
From my knowledge they are actually not the same .. there are small differences but they are definitely different for instance the snow queen at its most colorful will be 80% white and 20% green . And the marble queen will have 50/50 white to green . The confusion comes in because the marble queen can also get more variegated in higher light but still won’t reach the snow queens variegation. Also the snow queen has smaller slimmer leaves. And they both have 2 layers of variation but snow queens has more white var and marble has more mid tones and green
mine looks sad and leafs are gettin yellow but dont know why
I think the plant you're calling cebu blue isn't a cebu blue, it's a green Look at the video by winding leaf about that Green Epipremnum pinnatum are often mislabled as cebu blue So that's not your fault Cebu blue are much more blue also much paler, you don't have to compare them to other plants to notice it I suppose they can vary in hue but it's often way more noticeable
Thanks so much for this video! Exactly the info I was looking for, without so much chatter that I don’t have time to watch (human mom as well as plant mom😊). I’ll look for more of your videos. 🪴
People are screwing up the plant market so much by making things up. Just because you call it something doesnt mean it is that.
Oh....now we are playing God... Can you change water into wine as well?
Monsteras are my fave and I have delicioso and adonosaii, 5 total. Or so I thought. Turns out I have 6, because what I, like many others, thought was a variety of philodendron is actually a young monstera delisioso. I’m mean I must’ve bought this as an infant because it’s almost 2 years old and still no fennestrations. 😳 So thank you for this information; you have a new subscriber in me for sure!
Loved your video, really helped me understand what I can do better to stop the drooping. Do you water your alocasia frydek with tap water or distilled?
My Tree Philodendron is right next to an east window. When I first got it, I read that it might get spots on the leaves if it got too much sun but it would get used to its location and mine has. It gets a few hours of direct morning sun but then indirect light the rest of the day. I just recently reported it from it's original soil and it seems to be much happier. I think I'm about to start getting some new growth.
Thank you! I ordered one last year and killed it by letting it sit in water overnight!

Thank you for sharing!
I’m curious, what happened 2 years after
Richard,.beuitiful pothos plant varieties you have. my next 4" pot plant will be the jade pothos plant due to its dark green leaves.so far im enjoying my plants journey.thank you great Videos as always.take care.
Larissa, you are so knowledgeable and so good at explaining! Please, continue your channel if you can (I understand it's a big commitment to get it going, but I hope you will return )
Epipremnum pinnatum Blatic Blue is actually a different species Epipremnum pinnatum same as Cebu Blue not E. aureum, that‘s why it starts to fenestrate earlier. I doubt it‘s any different from a normal green Epipremnum pinnatum tho
I checked the channel. any update on this coming up?
Good information
What about the Brazilian one..
Sounds like a hype scam. Hype it up to make it more appealing to you and profitable for them. I’m good 😅
I have converted all my alocasias to Leca because of my tendency to overwater. Recently I moved a black stem zebrinia from under a grow light to a pot with water reservoir in front of a south facing window and within 3 days the plant started to droop and look very sick, I checked the roots and there was no signs of rot or pets so i've concluded it must just be that the pot was too tight to the inner pot of Leca and starving the roots of oxygen. bad oxygenation for the roots seems to cause more problems to my alocasias than any other issue. Hoping to see it bounce back now that i've reverted to its original conditions but its well worth considering this with any Aroid or semi hydro plant imo.
Boring. Too much talking and still can tell which one to buy based on difference.
Great video! However, I am more confused than ever 🤣😂… what I thought was a Monstera someone told me it was not, that it is a split leaf phill., but now I think my plant looks like that very mature monstera as well as that huge split leaf philodendron.
Definitely put some meat in you
Very good information
Thank you!
I have giant global greens with leaves as big as my head. Here in Manila Global Green became as common as the Sleeping pothos Shangri-la. And a lush plant can cost around 3-4 dollars. My giant Globals I got for 6 usd in conversion.
I just saw previous vids on this exact beautiful plant. They were so full of leaves, plus when a brand new leaf grows out, the older one just stays on. Thank you for sharing this good info.
I tried this on two different phones and the difference between them was significant. Im not sure how accurate a phone sensor can be here
how you calibrate phone app?
WoW! You are incredibly beautiful Ma'am! 🤗 Love your Alocasia Collection! I was super excited when you showed the Kuching Mask! I just brought one home. It was labled as a Regal Shield, but i knew it wasnt. So many people miss labeling this plant, and yet there is few legit information about this plant! Mine looks exactly like yours! Thank you for the information and the history of this plant. You Rock Ma'am!
kung walang permit then bakit hindi na lang mag apply and then tulungan ng taguig lgu para mapadali ang approval,
I wish I’d looked up this video before, or that the care websites I looked at for Alocasia mentioned this little detail. I was about to throw away my first little baby Alocasia, ripped it out of the soil by the leaves, and then I noticed.... the underside looks really good with healthy roots that I just damaged by pulling the plant out.... I panicked and put it in water, no clue if it’s the right thing to do or not 😅 then I finally found this video explaining what probably happened....
Drag
Late to the party on this...but I love that you tackled this subject. I go nuts when I hear things mislabeled...especially when it's me that's doing it! And I *still* don't have an explanation for my vining what I *think* is a philodendron, that gets split leaves, but isn't a monstera for sure. Google may fail me but this was helpful - and entertaining! 🙂
Great video! Jessenia is definitely a different plant. It is very distinct from the Marble Queen in regard to it‘s colouration
Very informative! I've been searching for the differences and correct plant names. Thank you so much for clearing up the confusion. Video just popped up on my feed but I will definitely check out your channel!
I want the neon
Alot of very good information
Wrong info..you need to get facts correct. Close but not correct. Pearls and jade yes from a lab...and NO it is not radioactive. N Joy which is more rare happened naturally. It is a "sport" of Marble Queen.
Calm down. It's not that serious. She was probably joking about the radioactive part.
I am just getting back into really getting invested into my house plants again I’ve always had some. Just the basics couple of philodendron’s couple of spider plants, Christmas cactuses, etc. but since I’ve been researching, I’ve now learned the difference between Thanksgiving Christmas and Easter cactus! And I also almost brought a Monstera today, but I didn’t think it looked like one and thought it was mislabeled and now I know why! This video has been fantastic!
Hi does he still have the plant shop in Toronto crazy plant guy? Where is it located . I don't see his you tube as well .
