    I was on this line last week now known as the Eskdale Line. Nothing much has changed in 60 years except perhaps some of the signaling. The stations still carry the same charm as they did then. Well worth a trip!

    Superb atmospheric filming of a post coal industrial waste land . Could apply to much of Up North Areas. As a Londoner born and Bred we had plenty of dereliction post ww2 and huge decline in the huge docklands area and asskciated industries, but the one difference was being so near to huge Capital (World) City the area has partially reused as a brand new financial district and now many years later lots of housing and entertainment. I remember taking my late wife thru docklands in early eighties she was born nearly Dockside and after driving she turned to me with tears in her eyes and said lets go home i said why ? She i wouldvrather remember it as was alive with people and children poor hard working but alive, this dereliction makes me sad. Iam lucky being a suburban Londoner what i remember is still here like Epping Forest things have changed but slowly not wholesale destruction of an industry and way of life, in fact i live 600 yds from i was born and the park round the corner i played in as a child and stll walk the dog so that spans nearly 70 years..

    Fantastic rare colour footage that took me back to the 1960's as a kid, we us use buy a 5/- Blue rover on the underground and 'Bunk' all the sheds around London. Us kids had so much fun in those happy days. And I have still got all my Ian Allen spotters books up in the loft. Thanks for uploading.

    The only 455s left are the ones running on SWR but they are due to be replaced by the 701s..SWR also made a bittersweet reminder of that they don’t have long left by repainting 455 868 in br blue. And I rlly love the SWT and connex livery same go3s for southern..!

    why is the audio silent?

  • @agdenyer
    @agdenyer4 ай бұрын

    Because the original was 8mm cine film. In those days you could not record sound on 8mm cine stock. Sound could only be dubbed on from sound recordings which were few and far between, as portable sound recorders were rare and very expensive. Not many recordings exist from the early 1960's.

    I knew Connex south central had the 319s but never southern, did they use them on the Milton Keynes line?

  • @agdenyer
    @agdenyer5 ай бұрын

    Connex South Central used then on the Gatwick Airport to Rugby Service. When Southern took over the service ran from various places starting with Watford Junction to Brighton then from Milton Keynes to Brighton, before what we have now.
