    i think you are nit-picking too much. You are micro-managing too much with Rick Beato's video, Get over it. You talk too much and i find you are a bit self-centred with a chip on your shoulder. take your boxing gloves off..they are not necessary. Just face it..current day music is just sh?t.

    Beato is RIGHT! That’s a series of words I have no problem repeating. Kids today don’t give a shit about music in video games and listening to the chart hits today is proof positive that anybody under 35 is pretty much fucked. No musical taste or acumen outside of about 20% of people currently making new music. Most of that is in wrap and rock.

  • @123four...

    I don't think that's true at all. There are entire communities built around video game soundtracks, with millions of views for the soundtracks of Fallout, The Elder Scrolls, and much much more. In addition, that's not even close to the totality of music that Gen Z is exposed to, with excellent artists like Kendrick Lamar proving that there is smart music today, as there has always been. I might have a different perspective than you, but to me it seems like people criticizing an entire generation for lacking musical taste are falling into the same trap as all the other previous generations. It's really no different than when people in the 60's and 70's lambasted rock and roll as creating juvenile delinquency and rotting kids brains.

    I'm late GenX. I grew up in a world where games had very basic or irritating music. Some of the very best music in games was often just a chip tune conversion of an obscure prog rock or electronic song that we didn't know because we were kids. I often still choose to play other music while games are playing. And games are a big distraction from actually listening to the music and appreciating it. Rick is correct. But I did listen to a lot of music on public transport. No gameboy or "phone" to distract me. I'd sit down and listen to the radio in the evening because the programming was still better than most things out there. Without people who care so much they will just sit down and listen to new music then go out and buy it, there is a much weaker scene.

    It all depends how you look at it and what you're exposed to. The real issue is a growing commercialization that has caused most authentic music to go underground or be adopted only by niche communities. With that it can be hard to see as a whole what good music is out there, but I assure you it is. The fact that amazing artists like Kendrick Lamar are out there and are still fairly popular show the error with this view of thinking. It would be like if I looked at Wham! as the only example of older music, declared that it all sucked, while completely ignoring Bob Dylan or Neil Young. It's an easy trap to fall into but it's still a trap nonetheless.

    Sorry, but Rick has probably accomplished more in his lifetime than your you tube channel will. The guy is a music teaching guru, and he’s paid his dues. Your criticism here is unfair because you keep skipping over his main point- of course he knows that certain kids are into video game music, but the passion that once created all the great music of the 20th century isn’t there like it used to be. How many new Gen Z rock bands are selling out stadiums? Yeah, that’s what I thought and that’s his point with a lot of these videos. Rock could experience another revival, but it’s not because many young musicians do not know what it takes to be great and original. There are a few out there who are making some waves, but it’s not enough if rock is going to make a comeback. Rick is more in touch with what’s current than most musicians his age.

  • @123four...
    @123four...3 күн бұрын

    I think this fails to take into account the changing landscape of music in the first place. Mainstream music is gradually becoming increasingly commercialized, which is certainly negative and is why it can seem like music is getting worse. But music isn't consumed the same way it used to be. The internet gives us access to a wide variety of bands across decades and decades, and as a result most authentic bands are increasingly niche or targeted towards specific communities. Adding to this the fact that concerts are extraordinarily expensive now and it's harder and harder for indy bands to get into the limelight, and you can see why the traditional metrics for success don't really apply. There's a whole world of new and unique music out there, it's just under the surface in a way that's hard to see from someone on the outside looking in. A take like this, that focuses primarily on Rock music, also doesn't really take into account the changing genres and types of music. All music might be different today, but of course it is. While I can agree that mainstream music has gotten worse, I cannot agree that all music has gotten worse, it's just that different forms of expression have arisen. People upholding rock as this standard feels sort of like how it was in the 60's where the old Jazz clique would lambast folk music as "just people strumming their guitars with no skill" and therefore completely miss all the nuance and subtly. Essentially, of course music isn't dead, it's just changing as it always has.

    It's Running With The Devil. Yes Rick is a shallow "left brained" theory nerd with zero ability to understand grasp or create great and deep music/art. Nevertheless, the "artists" that you think are good are shit as well, in no way comparable with those that may be are or were good or great or of any substance at all. There simply hasn't been any great music that has surfaced since 1993 and I'm sure that neither of you can help or even understand why. Peace and Love brother good luck

    The real problem with Beato is that until KZread, nobody had ever heard of him. He was a complete and utter nobody with only marginal involvement or influence in music. Then, all of a sudden, he is the Yoda and go-to guy of all music, production and creation and anyone who is anyone is flocking to be on his show. He is the Keyser Soze of popular music, a made up KZread only personality. Seriously, look up his production and writing credits. There is literally nothing there beyond a handful of partial production credits for a bunch of unknown bands from a studio and label nobody has ever heard of.

    I think he has some valid points. But he is very opinion based. We do need people to give an new viewpoint on things, because it might be true. But he has a "back in my day." vibe about him. Yes, somethings back in the day were very good. Some were also horrible. That is why the future exists. The key is to find balance from both worlds.

    As Gen X, I can relate to what Beato is saying. Truth is though, music just doesn't have the cultural impact it did years ago. Your record collection and your musical tastes defined you as a person. It had social significance (which is why we had movements you identified with like Mods, Rockers, Punks, New Romantics, etc). These days, it's all vanished and not deemed anywhere near as important as it once was - gaming and social media has largely taken over the social interaction role.

  • @123four...
    @123four...3 күн бұрын

    I think music is just consumed in a different way than it used to be. Large bands don't have as much of a cultural impact because, quite frankly, we have more options. We aren't limited to what we have at the local record store or on the radio, and as a result we have essentially the totality of musical experience at our fingertips. As a result, authentic music is increasingly niche and targeted towards specific communities. It's different, but I don't think it's necessarily bad. Music is ultimately a form of cultural expression, and now we have access to forms of expression never before seen. I mean, has there ever been an era in history where young people's musical lineup could consist equally of music from 1 year ago, 10 years ago, 50 years ago, and 100 years ago? I think it's a new opportunity, and while it may be quite different from what most people are used to, I think it would be a shame to discount it entirely.

  • @frankspeaking
    @frankspeaking3 күн бұрын

    @@123four...you make some very good points and I agree. I also think that although we're on the cusp of the AI revolution that will dominate everything, people will ultimately crave the more 'human' experience. Live music is likely to make a resurgence as a result and hopefully have a bigger impact again culturally.

    Dude, you’re overreacting. Rick isn’t talking about you, he’s talking about Gen Z in general. And the fact is, which anyone who has lived a more than three decades can plainly see, Gen Z’s mainstream music is mostly terrible. Doesn’t mean there isn’t great underground music, but it’s a comparatively tiny minority of people who appreciate it. And yes, sitting there listening to records is a far superior way to appreciate music than peripherally listening to video game music.

    Rick is a typical example of all of us as we age. We dream of our past, we confabulate and bias, glorify the past. I was there it wasn't all good. In fact many of these rock stars cannot hold a candle to the new generations of awesome talent. The music has changed, some for better, some for worse, mostly just different and that's perfectly fine.

    Just an FYI, i am always on the hunt for new band suggestions. I heard of maybe 1/3 of those bands, Car Seat Headrest being the only one with a song on any of my playlists, so i gave them all a listen (2 or 3 songs apiece from their spotify popular list). Narrow Head came closest to being a band i might check out more, but really they just reminded me of a less interesting Sunny Day Real Estate. It’s not that these bands are horrible en masse, but where’s the song writing? There have been similar alt bands in the past, Neutral Milk Hotel, the Pixies, or go way back to The Stooges or The Standells, ? and the Mysterions, all great bands with small to medium following, but the thing they all had in common was there was always a few songs that just stood out as something enduring. And so yes, there will always be an alt music scene, but that scene isn’t producing songwriting at the same level. And then when you start talking about bigger bands, let’s just take a decade, say the 90’s, and stack up the bigger names like Rage Against the Machine, Radiohead, Tool, Wu-Tang Clan, Tupac, Smashing Pumpkins, or the 70’s, Sabbath, The Sex Pistols, Bowie, The Ramones, The Clash, The Police, Zeppelin, Bob Marley. These are all bands, across genres, that have legacies, song after song, album after album. It just hasn’t been true lately. Every once in a while i find an individual song from a band that i really like, then I’ll check them out and not find anything else. The rest of their stuff will be just ok at best. The last album that i absolutely LOVED from start to finish was Tool’s Fear Inoculum, but I wouldn’t really count them as a 2010+ band, shit that album took them over a decade to release (hey at least they got it right, unlike Radiohead’s last album which should have stayed in the studio another decade to get it right). I’m not going to sit here and lay judgment about why this is the way it is, lay blame on any one group. I mean theoretically i could go pick up my guitar and start writing (though if i had that ability it would have happened by now), but it is what it is. I’ll keep looking though, maybe i will be surprised. I sure hope so
