  I work at home (welder/fabricator of display armatures for artwork) and I have one tip to clock in. Many of my tasks require some problem-solving before I get to work, so I clock in by writing the time in my work notebook and then begin the process of designing and then fabricating. This allows me to shut out everything else because I'm "on the clock."

  However, if you need an ISBN for each format Hardback etc. you could certainly buy an ISBN for that hardback elsewhere after getting a free ISBN from KDP for the paperback. Right?

  The width of the spine depends on the final number of pages AND the paper thickness of those pages + a small 'bend' factor usually covered by the bleed depending on the thickness of the cover paper! So usually book cover designs should have a bit more wider 'bleed' areas (at least horizontally left ight bleed margins)
