This channel is about the railroad, railroad history, history in general, exploring abandoned and other interesting places and anything I find interesting and want to share with others.
I retired from Union Pacific Railroad in 2019 after forty years (17 with Southern Pacific) and have many interests and hobbies I'd like to share with like minded people.
If there is something you'd like to see, let me know and if I am able to make it happen, I will!

Great job on a youtube career. Can you do signal design?
Thats a cool hang out spot during the winter . Summer time theres rattle snakes . . . Me and my Daughter go out there in the winter time to fly our drones and drive our remote control cars . . . If you drive further down theres that railroad bridge , when it rains it like a mini river through there but a cool spot to fly drones and enjoy City Sandwich cold sandwiches with the Kid
Ay 14:18 The Blue and Silver commuter coach is ex-Canadian Pacific built in Montreal in ethe 1930's
Wouldn't it be awesome if American trains could do the same speeds as European trains... or the North East corridor trains.... or the upcoming California high speed. Seeing one of those long freight trains doing around 200 Kilometers per hour would be amazing...! )I know they can't... but it would be great if they could).
another great video Mark.
Glad you guys had a great trip. 👍❤️
Interesting about Black Bear Diner, Wife and I had never ate at one until we were in Boise Idaho and it was very good and the portions were large for the price, only other one we have visited was in El Cajon, CA (the only one in San Diego County) and it was also good with big portions. I have been told by other people that the "experience" varies widely with the location. Train mountain is on our "bucket list", Want to take our Great-grandchildren from Logan UT to visit. I agree with UT having the worst road signs. Will have to talk to you sometime about gasoline and their additives since I worked in the industry for 30+ years. (Costco is as good as Chevron) Sorry but ARCO puts only the minimum required by law and is on par with the "No Name" stations. Any "Branded" station that advertises "Top Tier" is best bet. Tip on using Radar Gun, point click button and read speed, repeat as needed. (Do not need to hold button down)
Nice recap 👍😊
Sounds like a fun trip.
Train Mountain by far is as fun as it gets. Thanks for the ride.
Great video, How many train loads of equipment did we leave behind in Afghanistan.....thanks
Thanks Mark for your trip review, I like hearing about your experiences and places to eat and sleep. After meeting up with you in Tehachapi in mid May we headed west towards Flagstaff and the Grand Canyon. Pulling our trailer I thought the road I-40 turned to crap as soon as we crossed the Arizona state line and did not seem to improve until we were close to Williams. I assume they maintain them better close to tourist destinations so the don't upset the visitors. Looking forward to another trip down your way in the fall to visit the CA Train Museum and WP museum in Portola and then to LA via Tehachapi of course. Thanks again, Russ
Yeah, we went to Az. last spring. We took 66 from Topock to just past Seligman where it joins 40 again, and 40 was a disaster to Williams, as you said. I felt bad for the trucks that had to stay in the slow lane! If you get this way again, let me know. We'll hang out again!
The idea counter to thievery at parked RR cars is a special agent operating a large FPV drone armed with speaker, microphone and pepper spray. Oh yeah
Thanks for the summary it's nice to know what a trip cost so others could plan their trip somewhere similar.
What unnecessary war at we about to stick our nose into and waste tax dollars on just before the election
Thanks for the trip vlog with the wife, is was a lot of places i will probably not get to , time and father age is upon all of us, lol thanks BigAl California
Today Friday 12 th July 2024At 1:00 pm I think is the public, opening on the first ave rail road bridge, in Barstow, Wednesday was the city ribon cutting, , thanks BigAl California.
I hear it’s been so hot that the Harris Ranch cattle are producing evaporated milk. Now, that’s hot!
Someone said it's been so hot the tweekers are putting the copper back in the AC units! It's 110 right now!
@@MarkClayMcGowan I’m stealing that one from you. Yes, it’s hot. 4014 is in Roseville, it took 90 minutes in line to see it, in 90°. I saw a heatwave, and I waved back.
Us Oregonian say if you don't like our driving stay of the sidewalks, we use the whole road and some more. thank you ALL stay safe
You still have nothing on Arizona! I never felt endangered in Oregon, but feared for my life and my truck in Az!
I am a member of Train Mountain! I noticed the intro shot!
I wager 5 Quatloos that this is an excellent video.
But not shot on Triskelion!
@@MarkClayMcGowan I love that you're a Trekkie and also a railfan. I knew you'd get the reference. Really interesting video.
I’m guessing since it’s California they let criminals run around everywhere choose wisely who you vote for people who ruin everything like newsom
Nice video Mark.
Great video, I hope you can get some action in Alpauph, my dad grew up there and we spent many a time there when I was younger. Keep up the good work 👏
Hopefully it cools down so I can get back up there!
Great day to be out, glad you had a good one. Thaks for posting!
Nice catch Mark! Thx..
They like to tie down trains alot bnsf up in NorCal
Hi Mark & it's is Randy and i like yours video is Cool &Thanks Mark Friends Randy
right on got some friends with you.thanks mark
My dad and uncles spent their entire careers with Santa Fe between Bakersfield and Barstow. Thanks for keeping them safe on the rails.
That's not the capital corridor I don't know which amtrak that is
Thanks for the ride Mark and have a safe day. Paul
Great video presentation Mark, I enjoyed as always! Have yourself a great day! (Dave).
A rail fanner goes by Jawtooth (old C.B. handle) got hisself a radar gun little tiny one , don't point it at the lead loco, mite cause some consternation, but anywhere on the leading edge of rail cars works well, but you're rite 50 mph or even 45 because those huge vehicles look like they're moving faster than they are.
I live along these tracks in Merced County in Winton!!
Hello. Time to catch up with you again, soon. Thank you for your adventures.
Look up Barstow first ave bridge project,85 million dollar bridge, thanks BigAl California.
The Barstow bridge is not opening today at10am, it has been delayed till Friday at 10 am on the 12 th July 2024 first ave inbarstow you are looking at you messages, thanks BigAl California.
Actually very nice mainline action. Thanks for posting!
I live out here in Wasco and a half mile from the tracks. Speed limit is 70mph for freight, 80 for Amtrak. Lots of BNSF traffic on a good day, but it sucks that you can no longer hear them blast their horn through town anymore since they removed the 2 grade crossings as part of that HSR project.
Yep, trains are trains & I like the way you show them off😊
Someone told me the bnsf with yellow letters aren't a H1 maybe it's a H2 I don't know
It is interesting that the twisting, tunneled, horse-shoed rails of Tehachapi connect directly with the flat, speedy, straight tracks of the Central Valley. 🛤️
And the Mojave desert on the other side. I hope to get some stuff shot out there soon as well. Thanks for checking it out!
It was so hot today I saw a tweaker put the copper BACK INTO an air conditioner.
That's funny!
Short shave and a haircut
As always, thank you, Mark. Lots of trains makes my day!
Congratulations!
Awesome👍
You’re a good man, Mark!
come on down to houston...93 with 75%, and No electricity, No A/C....
I'm good with the high temps and low humidity.
