Markus Stitz - Bikepacking & Cycling Adventures
I work as journalist and filmmaker, with a focus on sustainable tourism and cycling. I am the author of Great British Gravel Rides and Bikepacking Scotland. In 2015/16 I cycled around the world on a #singlespeed bike - 34,097km through 26 countries.
Since then I create cycling and bikepacking routes through bikepackingscotland.com and bikepackinggermany.com and run the Dirt Dash event series.

But why destroy that feeling of freedom by using a Seatpack? Free your soul with a rack....
Oh dear! I think I free y soul simply by cycling, not by using either rack or seatpack!
I am glad to see videos of the bike, and the scenery is perfect. I own the R14 version and I can relate to carrying up those stairs, oof.
Thanks for watching! Scotland is pretty amazing for the bike, we loved it! And yepp, those steps (:
Splendid video. So many have been waiting and needing this! An offroad cargo ebike that can carry heavy weight for long distance is what all campers and outdoors enthusiasts have been waiting for. This opens up a whole new market for ebike manufacturers. The video we all really need and want to see next is its loaded capacity of 390 in its offroad environment. This is what we have been waiting for for so long. The performance of max load offroad is what this new market should be showing and improving on. 😊
Marvellous. Great adventure and an awesome edit - have a sub :)
Thank Brian!
Another beautiful and well edited video and showcases Moray / Speyside perfectly! Nice to see a coffee stop at Kula Coffee Hut at Duffus included, one of my favourite
Thank you (: And the cafe was awesome!
Looks fantastic Markus. What drone are you flying now?
At the moment an Air 3 - but also just about to try the Mini 4 Pro
@@reizkultur That's a nice looking machine.
@@bnrynlds Yepp, very happy with it. Very stable in the wind, it can handle some rain and shoots true vertical if needed.
Coastal path to Findhorn and Culbin, my neck of the woods and so beautiful, especially when the sun's out. Glad you had a great trip and enjoyed the film 😊
Hi Janice, very nice to read this, thank you!
Really enjoyed this, great video Markus! You definitely had all weathers. What were the chances of seeing you both in Tomintoul on that soaking wet evening! The rest of the trip looks ace too.
Thanks so much Charlie! Yepp, what a chance evening, we were delighted to see all the bikes & nice people (:
Love riding the Moray Coast and that coffee shack at Duffus Castle is 👌. Great photography too!
Thank you! We really liked it, those beaches are special!
Fabulous... just fabulous....
Thanks Mark, it's been a pleasure to work on this!
What a wonderful video. It reminds me of the guy who took a R&M Load 60 around King Alfred's way with his dog kzread.info/dash/bejne/eYyT18qdgJa5fZM.html
Thanks heaps Simon, will watch this later!
Love Findhorn, my favourite place on earth, sadly the coastal peninsula is getting pretty badly eroded between Findhorn and Burghead, but some cracking beachy smeechy singletrack 👌
Yepp, agreed! And we LOVED the water taxi as well. Just a short boat ride, but Jane was really nice and somehow it fetl like a proper adventure.
Amazing... Makes me want to get out on my bike!
Awesome, thanks a lot Douglas!
Beautiful as always Markus.
Thanks heaps Esther!
Exciting!
Nice one Sean, looking forward to what you think!
@@reizkulturcan’t wait to see it! 😉
@@SeanSmith66 Hope you enjoyed it!
@@reizkultur Markus, Jenny... some definite goosebump moments for me! You guys look like you had a great time! ❤
Yup, Scotland is extremely beautiful!
Markus, ich bin gespannt, wann es solche tollen Gravel Bike Events wie hier in Schottland auch in Deutschland geben wird!?
Supherb Video. We we were there four years for trecking ago and will definitely go there again
Absolutely fantastic film thank you guys 🫶
Thanks heaps for watching and the nice feedback!
💞Wow💛💛💛🧡💛💛💛💛
Why no sound on the interviews?
Great Video!!
Thank you!
Thanks for the film and even more for the route. Planning to cycle from Hull to Inverness this summer and I can use this route at least partially. Cycling from south to north would you recommend the route along the coast or the more inland route?
Hi Michael, for unique scenery I would suggest the coastal route of the Adventure Route - and changing to the cycle touring route in Whitby. The North York Moors are stunning too, so if you have time, a detour is worth it.
Thanks for the tip, maybe I can include a short loop through the Moors. I just noticed that on routeyc there are two routes leading from Hull/South to the North...there's the Adventure Route and the Cycle Touring Route...do this two routes use the same roads/paths or are they different? I imagine the Cycle touring route is road related and the Adventure Route is more offroad?@@reizkultur
@@michaelgoegele985 Hi Michael, yes, they are different. I would suggest cycling to Hedon from Hull, and then reverse the Adventure route - heading to Spurn Point, which is magical, and then up the coast from there. You could also take it to Scarborough and then use the part of of the adventure route to Whitby. Drop me an email if you have questions! Cheers Markus
I'd love to see this bike in person! Also wondering, since it is the same frame as their tandem model Pino, whether it could be changed by users..
Hi Tomasz, I guess wortwhile getting in touch with Hase to see whether or not that is possible. I would be interested in the outcome!
I am looking at the Hase or the Omnium Mini Max. I like the fact that the Hase has drop bars and that can be shortened. Thanks for this. Every little helps.
@@stevelindley2041 Loved the bike, and while I was first not sure, the drop bars are great!
I’m itching to do these routes
That's great to hear! If of interest, I rent out a small house in Alyth, closeby, with good space for bikes as well!
Love it, thank you so much. Wonderful cinematography.
Thanks heaps for watching and the nice feedback!
Right on. Particularly digging the music changes with scenery on the beat, well done.
Thanks a lot for watching and the lovely feedback!
As an Aussie cyclist who, over the years has developed a great love of the Yorkshire coast thru' my love of British crime dramas like Vera, DCI Banks etc, I really enjoyed this short film. It adds to my desire to return to GB and bike pack it one day.
That is wonderful feedback, many thanks! The Yorkshire Coast is stunning. I have crossed Australia from Sydney to Perth on my round the world trip and loved it as well, venturing off the road in the Nullarbor was an awesome experience as well!
Been thinking about doing this route at Easter. Really need to pull a finger out and book some trains I guess. Thanks for the video.
Easter would be ideal. If you struggle for bike spaces on the Inverness line, an alternative would be to take the Ember bus to Perth/Dundee, which takes bikes, and cycle in from there - either connecting at Blair Atholl or even better, at Enochdhu.
Cheers for the tip. We were thinking, to make it easier with trains, to get to Aviemore on the train and then hire bikes there, rather than bring them from London. It's an added expense but means less stress getting on trains and my partner gets to maybe try out an MTB rather than use her gravel bike, plus my new gravel bike probably still won't be ready by then :S Plus it's only a short trip so I'd be less worried about having a perfect bike fit and the like. "Run what ya brung" vibes. @@reizkultur
@@firsthippy Great idea, there are two good providers there, which hire gravel bikes & MTBs!
So pretty! And happy to see Jenny & Mark again now that GCN + is kaput 😢
Thanks Ian! We enjoyed working on this together, great team!
cool, inspiring, keep up the good work!
Thanks a lot David!
Beautiful scenery but more route, gear and planning chatter would have been nice
Thanks for watching, and the feedback. There are likely to follow more films about the different routes.
Scotland, right at the forefront of this revolution. This is a beautiful wee film to highlight that. Braw, lad.
Fingers crossed it will become reality!
Fastest woman and fastest man to cycle the world both Scots! Just pointing that out.
Yepp, I guess fit in there well with having lived in Edinburgh for 15 years now too (:
Thank you! My part of the world and you're giving me a new perspective on it guys. Some wonderful days to be had so close to home.
That is wonderful feedback Peter, thanks for watching. It was a blank sheet when I started, and it was nice to discover this beautiful part of the world by cycling and meeting the people that were really passionate about it.
Greay film. Just a heads up - spoken/interview audio only seems to come mostly of the left channel while music is stereo. Possibly a feature instead of a bug?
Yepp, I could say it is a feature, but I could have duplicated the mono channel. Improvement for the next one, thanks for watching!
it''s infuriating, had to keep skipping the talking bits 😞
@@agenthypo Hard to please everyone, if it's infuriating, simply don't watch it. We prefer to inspire people!
What a superb film 👏
Thank you!
Great video, I take it Yorkshire Dirt Dash will be based around these routes.
Yes, it will (: Mostly in the North York Moors and the coast between Filey and Whitby. Details very soon!
Nice film but to short.
I like the length, but there will also be a longer film coming soon about Great British Gravel Rides. Thanks for watching!
Such a great video, very inspirational. Thanks. Please come to Sussex. South Downs, Ashdown Forest, Pooh Bridge, Avenue Verte, East Grinstead, Downs Link. Perfect!
Thank you so much. I might be working on a book in that part of the UK soon, and Great British Gravel Rides - The Film will have footage from the South Downs at least. I would love to do something similar in other regions!
Markus. That's so cool. Pls stay in touch. If we can tie a visit in with our kidical mass or bike bus, it would be amazing. Happy to help in any way I can.
Why do none of the links on your website work for the routes?
Links are working for me.
Same here, links are working, maybe try again?
I got a slight issue with the audio, dialogue is left channel only
Hello, yes, well spotted. We recorded the audio in mono. I hope it still makes an enjoyable watch!
For future reference- if you duplicate the mono track so that it’s on both left and right channels it solves this problem :)
Always great video content when you see any or all of these three names in the credits! Thank you Markus 🚲👍
Thanks for watching Tony!
@@reizkultur my pleasure 🙂
Having ridden parts of the route just last week, I feel this is a great place to ride. Great film Markus.
Indeed it is Erwin, and adjacent to the northern end of the Yorkshire coast is the North Yorkshire Moors, which is also great for gravel bikes. (and MTB).
Thanks a lot Erwin! It was great to have you around, and making the journey over.
@@tonypaddler checked that out also indeed. Shared some of it on my Komoot and Instagram 💚
@@erwinsikkens_com oh good, I hope you also liked the NYM. I've heard a lot of good things about Komoot, I'll have to sign up. Cheers 🙂👍
What a great film. Beautifully shot.
Hi Stuart, thanks a lot!
Fell in love with this bike and I have bought it now. I have to say awesome bike. Did the first tour and super fast is really the correct term for it.
That is great to hear! Loved cycling with it, and there will hopefully be more adventures to come!
Really brilliant watch Markus. Always nice to see new ideas and styles of riding. Really keen to check out the Yorkshire coast route. We've spent nearly 10 years living in parts of Yorkshire but never made it to that coastline to ride!
Thanks a lot! I enjoyed your Cairngorms film, really nicely done. The route is finished, live with the next film - would be ace to have you riding it!
Another great film Markus. And now an odd question - where did you get that great shirt?
Thank you! This is about 10 years old and from GAP I think (: Defo bought it before they became a thing (:
Very interesting bike!
Agreed David, I would love to take it on more adventures!
Thanks for the great video! I take my Bullitt out on bikepack trips 😎 It's awesome ❤
Thank you! Loved it, and look forward to more soon!
