Hello and welcome to the channel. I review audio gear with a focus on subwoofers for 2ch music. Please do keep in mind my reviews are based on my personal experience, with my ears, in my room, with my associated equipment. Audio is like food, we all have slightly different taste and sometimes the mood you're in can even have an impact. Ultimately i do this for free and for fun, this is a hobby after all and it's supposed to be fun.

Hey nemo figured id let you know im still above ground you keep on keeping on my friend i enjoy your content. Best wishes to you bubba.
Is this better than the Schitt Recker
Damn that’s a great question, honestly man, similar sound quality, RSL just has more power and features. RSL knocked this one out of the park!!
thank you for responding (and so quickly) to a question on a 4 month old video. You are a class act, and one of the best hifi reviewers on KZread. Thanks again. You made my decision much easier. 🙏
Iam newbie to this subject. Can you put a passive subwoofer to this amp?
no, passive subs are more for car audio or extreme/niche home theater, not something you generally find in 2ch stereo or hometheater.
And I wonder how the Elac BS283 might compare
A UK competitor are PMC speakers, for future review.
What listening mode do you run your avr on?
I don't own an AVR.
@@NemoPropaganda how do you use your subs
@@evobest2008i do not understand the question. Plz rephrase.
@@NemoPropaganda what are your subs hooked up to
Amazon sells one like this but it also is a DAC. I wonder if that would be a good buy.
all ARC to analog converters are dacs.
How many watts per Channel were you driving when you review these? Also did you have them at full range ? Do you ever use a sub while reviewing speakers
I have multiple amps, the weakest one at the time was 50w, yes I only do full range, not running full range wouldn't be a review, the speaker is designed to run full range, yes I use a subwoofer half the time.
Hi Nemo, this changing of sound sig from low to high volume is that kind of rare? I've probably at least watched half if not more of your reviews of speakers and I don't think I've ever heard you say that about speaker before how common is it? Thanks
a lot of speakers sound a little different from lower to higher volumes and open up more as you give them more volume, the Comete 40th was just a bigger change at volume.
I know this is an old review, but I just wanted to give you a shout out. You haven’t steered me wrong, yet. I picked up a Rythmik G22 after a watching your video and when I saw your thoughts on the Ares, I stopped looking at more expensive DAC’s. I ended up finding a good deal on the latest version of the Ares and it just showed up today. Best digital playback I’ve had so far and, you’re right, it’s plenty good enough for me to enjoy my music and it was 1/3 of the price of the DAC I was looking at. Now, I’ve been fighting buying a power cord, but the one that comes with it is just as the distributor Allen says in his videos. It’s a basic power cord and it feels barely adequate to be safe 😂. I do think I’ll be replacing it asap. Sorry for the long message, but thank you again and I look forward to more videos. 👊🙏
I appreciate the kind word!
Its totally your setup, the oberon series is not bright at all instead err on the neutral side. I cannot even stand 30 seconds listening to B&W speakers because of the bright you describe. No other reviewer of these speakers has this opinion. Try changing your amp.
You're making the mistake everyone else makes assuming the whole series sounds the same, the Oberon 1 is bright & sharp, it does not the sound the same as the towers which are more neutral. I don't have just have 1 room or 1 amp, I tried these speakers in multiple rooms and even let friends borrow them. Everyone including the friends that liked bright speakers felt they were sharp & bright.
Great review! Any comparisons to the Heco Celan 3? I'm in the market for a general upgrade but not sure what direction to go.
not really, they're too different. If you like the Celan Rev3 and want an upgrade consider the R3 Meta.
Handsome. They look like old vintage Infinity speakers.
Triangle is a very good French brand like a Focal. For my father's 60th birthday, I bought Triangle Borea BR03 Connect active speakers for 500 euros and was slightly shocked when I heard them. I seriously wondered if my system is really as good value as I thought, (Focal Aria 906 with original stands for 800 euros, 50 euros for speaker cables, 1300 euros (slightly used) for one of the best and most suitable amplifiers for this price - YBA Heritage A200 and Primare Prisma NP5 MARK II streamer for 350 euros (new), MSRP about 600 euros, this Triangle sounds 85 - 90% like my setup for a few thousand euros, and the price is ridiculous... Now I'm seriously considering whether a passive system is really worth it, when active ones now sound ridiculously good for their price.
@10:26 you said the triangle evoke 20 😂. It’s cool though you’re allowed to make mistakes
Yeah I caught that too. Such is the case with the single take style. I usually just leave it when its minor.
Have you listened to the ELAC center channels (ELAC Debut2.0 C6.2 or the Uni-Fi 2.0 UC52)?
I have not.
You should give emit 30 a try, awesome small tower speaker
towers aren't something I usually review.
Ok, awesome reviews btw, keep it up man!!
I have a pair of ATC SCM19 but in my new house I will have to put them in a room of only 12 square meters... this worries me a lot
I have not heard the 19 so I don't know if that will be good or bad but I'm sure you can make it work with some light room treatment, maybe just 2 bass traps in the back corner and panels at the first reflection point.
Does compare Martin Logan 800x with JL audio d110 make sense ?
No, JL D110 is on a higher level. 800X cannot compete with the JL D110.
Your review is spot on as always. 👍👍 I totally agree with the importance of speaker's aesthetics, especially when you pay over 2K. After many years of hi-fi experience, If I had to give only one advice of getting the right speaker: If you cannot hear them in your room, get the one that shuits your taste at highs and mids. And if your room is not aqoustically treated, the placement will not be far enough from the back wall, or under 25-30 sqm, go for cleaner quicker and tighter bass. It is much more safe to look for more quantity IF NEEDED afterwards with a nice sub that you can put it somewhere that suits aqoustically best your place.
Totally agree with your review of the Dynaudio 👏🥇💯🙌🔥
kef R Meta costs €700 more in Europe. Are these suitable for heavy music when connected to a subwoofer?
what do you mean by heavy music? I'm not sure I understand.
@@NemoPropaganda heavy metal, rock music 😄
@@supikoiraroy oh, mmm, no I don't think so. It will play metal but I think this speaker is best with higher end recordings and singer/songwriter genre.
I was debating to get these but I didn't because I had the bro8s. They felt tilted in the bass and treble. Felt these would be more refined but that signature sound would remain.
these are a lot more refined than the BR03, similar sound from midrange and up but the BR03 had more bass in my room. Seems Triangle opted to lighten up the bass in the 40th to make the midrange more expansive.
@@NemoPropaganda that makes sense, customers are most likely looking at refinement at the slightly higher levels. Triangle is always good value in the UK. These are 1500 quid over here.
How to these compare to the Zu DWX? (Granted it's a physically larger bookshelf..)
kinda similar in that both are open/airy presentations but the ZU is a little more balanced overall, has fuller and more bass, less picky of recordings or amplification, and is unstoppable at louder volumes compared to just about anything smaller. The Zu is an absolute hidden gem so long as the size is not a concern :)
@@NemoPropaganda Thanks. Do the Zu (and Triangle) still sound good off-axis?
@@fascinatedbyeverything I don't usually comment on that unless I notice something outside of the ordinary since that's fairly room dependant. I listen to both speakers the same way, mostly pointed staright in the room.
Try something more exotic: Klinger Favre D56.
I have not heard of that product, I'm not sure its available in the USA.
Exactly what I thought. Great job……AGAIN…. The Buchardt puts out an active speaker with room correction lots of tech. What ever happened to the equalizer? Is it a cheat? Or is it just a great way to control your listening preferences.
equalizers are still around, Schiit has a few models but you can't make the R3 sound like the Evoke even with an EQ.
Special 40 🙃
that's another very beautiful speaker, a lot more money & very different sound.
I was about to make a silly comment along the lines of those speakers being "so sexy I would believe any sexual harassment accusations they made against anyone"... but then at the end you mentioned people in the comment section asking about advice without mentioning budget. I actually believe that, as frustrating as that might be for you to deal with, it's still for the best. I have come to the conclusion that people generally underestimate the level of fulfillment that can be achieved from listening to music (or movies) through above average (or damn near prefect) sounding music systems.(my PSB speakers are above average and my headphones are damn near perfect lol). That goes equally for those who are genuinely into this hobby as well as those who (think they) are not. I am so entrenched in this belief, I will make a bold and downright crazy claim right now and bet my life on it that I'm 100% right. I believe that it is FAR more rewarding, and even more financially responsible in the long term, to finance a loan up to around $15K maybe even up to $20K to spec out and build a music system that is well above your budget range, basing your purchase decision strictly on the sonic quality of the components you select by the process of elimination as you audition them in person, instead of trying to constrain yourself to your available budget at the time. I intend to go as far outside my budget as necessary for my next system build. As soon as the opportunity presents itself for me to travel so I can audition all (or as many as possible) of the components that peaked my curiosity from all the 100's reviews I've watched so far.... whatever that build costs that's what I'm getting.
I agree with the statement overall, fiscally speaking. I went around the block buying up every $500-$700ish bookshelf and realized you're trading in different sonic traits, not so much pushing the performance or refinement envelope. And then I did the incremental amp upgrades. The $1000 to the $1500 amp again, mostly different, not really pushing the needle too far. I don't regret my journey because it helped inform what characteristics I valued the most. Now system sits around $30k, upgraded over time, and my curiosity for the budget gear has mostly been satisfied. You often get what you pay for, and I highly encourage everyone to stretch as far as possible because the truly good equipment will always retain decent value, and the sound quality gains are very real at thresholds beyond the budget categories. That's not to say there aren't absolute bargains, but generally speaking the good stuff commands $
i dunno about financing but I think at minimum saving up for better amplification is a very good idea, I continue to feel that is the foundation of the entire system.
@@NemoPropaganda well in a perfect world yes saving up would be ideal but in reality most people (read "me specifically" lmao) will rarely have the discipline to save and not touch that money for long enough to achieve that goal. Also depending on how slowly your saving process goes, one or more of the components you had your heart set on may go out of stock for an extended period of time or be discontinued entirely. That has happened to me before when I was attempting to be "frugal" regarding a purchase that I could have just sacrificed a little and bought the item outright instead of saving up and budgeting, and it feels like a sucker punch to the nuts lol. Last issue is that if you're lucky enough to have the item remain in stock until you've saved up the money it's possible that the price increased over time. For example the PSB imagine mini speakers that you so graciously tipped me off to have not only been discontinued but right now if you have to get a pair of those brand new they range between 500 to 700 on fleebay. That may not be a perfect example as they were already discontinued when you reviewed them but It seems to be a trend with a lot of quality products. You either end up paying a significantly higher price as time passes or the item is discontinued (or worse it's replaced with a crappier version)
@@NemoPropaganda Nemo, having said that , can you share which 3 amps are your favorites from first to third place? And if you consider one of those a "game over" amp?
@@zombielandiii2711 mmm, I don't really think in terms of favorites when it comes to amps, while I do review them from time to time I don't have a crazy amount of data points like I do with speakers & subs but I really loved the two Pathos amps I reviewed, the CHoco was a big stand out, and I love my own amps of course (kinki pre & monos).

I wonder what’s a small or big room. For example how much m2 for the kc62 or go for kc92.
When referring to room size I am referring to audioholics room size standard: small room is under 1500sqft, medium is 1500sqft to 3000sqft.
Hello Nemo, two questions if i may. Im looking for speakers at around 1500-2000 usd pair to upgrade my Heco Aurora because i think it has the type of sound that Im going to settle down for a while if not definitely. Im looking for that sound, but better. The other question is where did you find the image displaying on your TV? I have to pause the video only to ask you that. It looks amazing 😍
it's a lofi video: kzread.infoMZhivjxcF-M?si=aJaW5mN2_YhQNUe1 as far as an upgrade from the Celan Rev3... hmmm, that's a tough one, it has a bit of a unique sound with it's brighter treble yet warm midrange & strong bass, that's a somewhat uncommon sound signature. The KEF R3 Meta is close but not bright up top, maybe try to audition that. I would consider the R3 Meta a pretty good upgrade overall as long as you have the amplificaiton to show it off. If you're using inexpensive amps like under iotavx sa3 or emotiva ta1 it might make more sense to just enjoy what you got and maybe save for an amp upgrade instead.
@@NemoPropaganda Nemoooo I asked about Heco Aurora upgrade, not Heco Revolution 😊 😁 But I will have that recommendation of yours as well. Also thanks for share the Lofi video, I like it so much.
@@zombielandiii2711 oh sorry bro, that's an easy one! CSS Criton 1TD is literally the same sound but better overall albeit harder to drive. Buchardt S400 MK2 is another option also!
Very nice review! Thanks for sharing.
An absolutely beautiful finish b! Outstanding looks. But one I would definitely want to demo as the midrange from your description sounds a bit lean. Many thanks for everything you do.
The midrange is open and clear, tonality is fantastic, especially with drums. I wouldn't call it lean, but those characteristics seem to dictate that it won't be overly warm or fat either. Partnering equipment can change these radically. I used a budget integrated and it was good. Tubes and it was blissful. Big solid state and it was extended and bold. They're quite fantastic (to me). The Magellan Duetto are taking main stage now. They are quite different and also fantastic.
You are 100% correct in your interpretation of the review. Yes the midrange can be lean somewhat like Focal speakers but the Triangle midrange is more natural sounding than Focal. The ligh bass further gives the impression of a leaner midrange that is more clarity focused and expansive.
Couls you give examples of speakers with a similar sound signature?
Focal Aria 906 or Mon Acoustic Super Mon Mini are a similar sound signature.
@@NemoPropaganda thank you
What measures would you guys recommend to improve low volume listening on existing speakers connected to an AVR? Thanks
I have found a subwoofer will do wonders for low level listening.
as another commenter said quaity bass is a factor. I find myself listening at lower levels when my sub is on versus off. Outside of that amplification, speakers, and the room itself. Less echo/resonance in the room will make detail much easier to pickup on at any volume. Room treatment at the first reflection points is a great place to start.
Run these on KT88 tube integrated and the midrange is so open and fast. Love these speakers!!!
Opinions are divided on the sound of these. But damn don't they look good!
This is the case with every speaker. Different taste, different room.
yeah of course, it's a preference based product just like food my bro, that's the entire hobby!!
The Philharmonic BMR is the first bookshelf speaker i have heard that didn’t need a sub…it’s huge though
Ive always loved the look of these.
Look a little small 😮
really? It's a pretty normal sized bookshelf speaker IMO. Small would be something like the Dynaudio EMIT 10 or Project Speaker Box 5. This is more like Buchardt S400 MK2 size :)

What x-over on your subs did you find worked best with these?
since the speaker is light on bass i crossed over higher than usual right around 60-70hz depending on what sub I was using at the time.
Great look but I have sworn off gloss finishes. I don't seem to be able to own them without picking up scuff marks that dont happen on other finishes. I just took a bath on a couple of great speakers but cut the price a lot due to handling marks.
I have high gloss speakers, if bought brand new, just don't touch them once set up and use a soft microfiber cloth to dust them. No polish, just use the microfiber cloth very gently to wipe off the dust. I find them quite easy to look after.

With the wrong amp at higher volumes that would be likely.

I have these and do not find the fatiguing at all. I found the BR03 super fatiguing however for what it’s worth.
Like any speaker that is more clarity focused and forward in the trebel absolutely yes. In the wrong room or with the wrong amp it can absolutely be too much for some listeners which is why I suggest pairing with smoother/warmer amps.
I agree, BR03 is less refined and at louder volumes can be too much but for its price its still very good.
Beautiful speakers I’d probably go kef r3 meta in indigo blue over them but still fantastic

How's it compared to the Fritz? :)
the fritz is in a different league with more expensive drivers, but looks basic
Nate nailed it, the Fritz is a little larger so its sense of scale is fuller and bigger, its instrument sepparation is top tier and its incredibly effortless and not picky with amps or recordings. A bit of a hidden gem IMO.
I have the Comete EZ and think they are great. I’ve been tempted to upgrade to the 40th, but am not sure it’ll be a significant upgrade for the price Delta. I run mine with dual RSL Speedwoofer 10s from my Kinki EX-M1+, but prefer them with my Willsenton R8.
