    Simply Cycling the power and removing the lightbulbs worked for me.

    Fantastic! You are the first to tell this after 9 years posting. Did you try to put the light bulb back to check whether it works the same?

    @@tgmac8288 Yeah, I suspect too large wattage bulb was the cause, because it did work with a lower wattage bulb. Similarly some LED bulbs also shortened the sensing range of the remote.

    Im following this guide (very grateful by the way) and I’m getting no resistance (1) across the slip rings - where does this mean the fault is, and can it be fixed? I cleaned them up and make sure contact was good

    There is a short inside the rotor. Would suggest to replace the alternator replaced - new or used.

    @@tgmac8288 just to be clear by no resistance I don’t mean an open circuit connection I mean no connection at all

    @@electricsuncafe"Zero" ohm = shorted circuit. Open = high resistance or broken coil wire. Both mean rotor coil circuit problem and the replacement of the alternator is needed. Not a easy fix. Get a used alternator from auto wrecker will be the cheapest way.

    So the coolant light on doesnt mean your overheating, it just means you need add coolant?????

  • @tgmac8288
    @tgmac82883 ай бұрын

    If you add the coolant, the light should go away. Then ii is fine. If the coolant light still on after adding coolant. It means the coolant senor in the coolant tank is bad. The coolant light sensor is to tell whether there is coolant in the tank or not. The temperature gauge is to tell whether your car is overheating or not. If the temperature gauge is too high, that is the indication of overheating.

    Just drill one small hole in the seal and feed compressed air into it, the seal will shoot outta there at a hundred mile an hour.

    You are THE Man! My situation was exactly the same and I Google'd the entire internet and they all point to a controller board replacement at around $150. Not only that, it would have taken me half a day to replace it. No up, no down, just a click of the replay. My light bulbs do work though. Then I came across your video. As an engineer it makes total sense but I'm still baffled as to why it took 20+ years for it to fail! (Yes! My door opener is over 20 years old, closing in on 25 years!) I climbed up a ladder and sure enough there was a questionable solder joint. Not as blatant as the one you've shown. And the one next to it was not ideal. I'm a solder maven so I know when there's a bad joint. Out came the soldering iron and BINGO! Fixed the problem completely. I didn't even have to remove the controller board because the joints were reachable with my solder iron with nothing in the way. It was literally a 5 minutes job, including waiting for the iron to heat up! :) I knew it was a bad joint as I had a blob of solder on the tip or my iron and all of it flowed into the joint. THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU! Have a great 2024!

    When I was a young GM mechanic my alternator went out so I went to the parts counter and get a diode bridge and regulator and proceeded to rebuild my alternator, When I was all done the parts manager walked in and said "hey dumbass I could have sold you a new alternator for less then you just paid for parts" I was not pleased, And I do believe it was the last alternator I remember cracking open.
