Visitors! Patrons! Welcome! I'm Caitie, and I like Dragon Age too much. So, come know what has not been lost of the lore of the Dragon Age series of video games! Please note that videos that contain spoilers will say so in the video description. If you clicked to expand this section of the channel, congrats, you get a firm handshake for reading this. There is also a high probability that if you ask for this handshake, I would have forgotten about writing this and be very confused. Redeem at your own risk.

Side note: the lil orange wisp ghost avatar for @ghildirthalen in the video is so cute :)
So I have a few thoughts on Cole and just spirits in general. I don’t think Cole ever wanted to be a person like people like Varric suggest he wants to help and so him becoming more spirit is better for him because he can fulfill his purpose better. My second thought is could Justice have been like Cole if he never merged with Anders like out through Awakening we see Justice learn more about the world and even having a desire to interact with Kristophs wife so could he have identified with Kristoph so strongly that he could’ve become him
Caitie I love so much that you never miss an opportunity to dunk on the IDW comics 😂
Mythal lore always has me foaming at the teeth for more
Funny I like hearing some youtube while i replay DAI. I stumbled into this theory as I was entering Crestwood village.
Just got my girl friend to start Origins this month, slowly showing her the No Spoilers as they drop too. Thank you for all the great work ♡♡♡♡
I've always wondered that Dorian line in a banter with Solas that says "What? Spirits don't have magical talents" or something close to that. What is he referring to here, since we know spirit can cast spells?
I actually forgot about that line- had to look it up! I can't really give a good answer- but I'm taking it to mean that spirits can easily manipulate the fade while in the fade, but struggle to do bring that magic across the veil into the waking world. There is a spirit stuck in the remains of flooded crestwood that complains that they cannot command the world to do anything and becomes frustrated by it. We do obviously see demons (And Cole, but he's a special case, so he goes in another box) do magical feats however- i do think there is some wiggle room for how many of those demons are possessing mage bodies, have a source of fade energy nearby (thin and torn veil, like the rifts in DAI), and frankly what is a good game mechanic so we turn a blind eye.
you are the backbone of this community
@@weshouldspoon HONESTLY! Such. Great community cultivated by our liege
You know, this is the first time I realized that the Dalish were led by mages. Both the Keeper and the First are mages, and when a clan has too many mages they trade them to other clans who are less fortunate in the magically gifted. Their approach to magic has just been so.. natural? subtle? that I never noticed they were basically a magocracy as well, though totally different from Tevinter or ancient elves..
I think these videos would be much better if they were comprehensive.
So I hear what you are saying- from this and your other comment, haha! But the problem is where do you draw the line in the lore to make 'comprehensive'? You probably just said 'everything!' But does that include the Orlesian monarchy history? The different classifications of magic? The different circle fraternities? She of the Red?? At one point you need to stop because you will overwhelm people. The goal of this video series is to help send people off to DAO (And for 201, Send people off to DAV), and let the games give a better description of the rest. All you really need to know about Templars is that they take lyrium to stop magic and watch over mages. Cassandra's whole arc is about the Seekers, which I don't think carries over to DAV. Golems are arguably a worse thing to cut, however I'm also holding on to that one for a dwarf video later down the line! Also sorry I wrote so much- I'm very passionate about this series, haha.
@@GhilDirthalen This is the problem, ya goof! Don't be sorry! That's what I'm saying I want to see 😆
Yay, another lesson from Professor Ghil Dirt 🥰
As someone who studies religions as a hobby, conflicting stories, and things that are likely amalgamations of several figures, these contradictions make the world feel very real.
To this day, I wish that Bioware had allowed us to access the MP characters' armor sets in single player. So many of them are way cooler than *anything* the Inquisitor can wear. Will forever be bitter about how many characters outshine the Inquisitor in the fashion department lmao.
Theory: Maybe solas tried to stop the evanuris because they were making a dangerous weapon. Namely, the blight. Hear me out. Considering solas' reaction when he sees the black city in the fade in DAI, i think the golden city was an elven structure. Maybe the evanuris were creating the blight in that structure and that's why it ended up in the fade when solas created the veil. And something else (although far less likely.) Maybe after the magisters broke into the golden city and unleashed the blight fen'harel thought that there might be a cure or something for the blight in the black city and so he decided to try to enter the city to look for it. But after solas plan to enter the city failed, he decided to bring down the veil completely. If i'm not mistaken, you've said before that in the veilguard gameplay reveal solas was trying to move the evanuris to somewere else. Maybe out of the black city so he could safely enter? idk. What do you think about this? Btw i don't know if someone else has theorized about this before. I don't really go hunting for lore and theories other than a few YT channels i sub to.
BABE WAKE UP NEW GHIL DIRTHALEN VIDEO
There's a place right above the Silent Plains called "Solas"? Coincidence?
i just love your lil' archivist avatar, so heckin' cute
i really love this formula
i am loving this formula
I still don't know why I keep watching both versions of your recap videos, but well, here I am once again!
Same
I do this as well
Haha, I do the same.
Blood magic is the unique feature at this franchise, They removed it at DA inquisition, Fans liked blood magic & it's lore, DA inquisition ruined the franchise.
Well- just to clarify (perhaps in error if im missing the point) but they do not include a blood magic specialization. Blood magic is still a huge part of the lore and story. DAI had many faults, but i humbly disagree it ruined anything.
And let's not forget, they did say that they didn't adding blood magic to the new game either.
@@NehnBellanaris they also said there was some story reason for that, which im… very curious to hear, haha.
Only they did not Blood Magic is still in DAI (and used by the Venatori.) it's just not a Specialization which makes sense as your becoming the leader of an Andrastian Orginization made up of rouge Chantry officals to restore order in the south that views Blood Magic as Taboo, yeah not sure how one could reasonablly have an Inquisitor that embarces Blood Magic
@@NehnBellanaris Nope still Blood Magic in Veilguard once again it's just the Specialization not in the game
Are you going to open up your Thedas classes again? If you do, I would love to attend. ❤🙏🏾😁 Excellent video.
Well the ‘class’ was just a charity stream with a coat of paint on it, haha. If anything, this is the class!
@GhilDirthalen Cool beans. I'll be sure not to miss your next lesson. Thanks, Professor GhilDirthalen. 😁🙏🏾💜
"blood mage attacking templars - from the shitass IDW Dragon Age comics" well that explains the tweet lol
I'm always a fan of magic in RPGs and JRPGs. I tend to play as a mage or some sort of magic user class in any of the RPGs I've played in my life such as Dragon's Dogma, Kingdoms of Amalur, Diablo, Greedfall, White Knight Chronicles, Untold Legends and Hogwarts Legacy. Although I'm more of a fan of the elemental magic systems such as Fire, Ice/Water, Lightning, Wind/Nature, Earth, Light and Darkness from RPGs such as Final Fantasy 16, Tales of Berseria/Arise and Legend of Dragoon.
Plain and simple, you love fantasy.
Not to nitpick, but it wouldve been also good to add that magic can be countered by a number of groups and organizations like the Seekers and Templars, each eith their own uniquely powerful styles in doing so
@@kaenidragaenmond3544 thats fair! But for the sake of time- things needed to be cut and that was one of those things. The series is designed for like the ssuuupperrr basic world buildings bits. ‘watched over by the Chantry’s Templars- Knights who take Lyrium to repress magic.’ Seemed like the best place to start people. Seekers dont even come into the series until DA2, and are basically broken by DAI! And with DAV in mostly Tevinter, id be surprised if they even showed up!
@GhilDirthalen I daresay the majority of us would prefer a comprehensive approach rather than a time efficient one 😅
@@colt4505 This is mostly for new people that will just pick up Veilguard. She's building an explanation summary for when those people start looking for info
@colt4505 Ghil literally has 100s of videos explaining things in depth, this is just for datv and newcomers
my favourite topics to think about in these games! thanks for making these videos, always good to get a refresher
@5:12 “from the shitass IDW comics” A more perfect citation has never been written.
How come the tranquil aren't mentioned? There are mages who are willingly lose their feels and dreams or deemed be dangerous to themself or others. It wouldn't fit in the video, would it?
Willingly? Are you sure about that?
@@kaenidragaenmond3544 Yes. In DAO, Owain found in the Stockroom of magical items, chose Tranquility over doing the Harrowing. He feels no regret for that decision.
@@xer_7438 honestly, mostly because of time. There was a lot of magical concepts that could have been added- like golems- that i just ended up cutting.
@@kaenidragaenmond3544I think it’s mentioned in DAO for a mage Warden and one NPC in DAI’s Haven says she chose to forgo the Harrowing and willingly chose Tranquility due to her lack of magical talent. Granted, it’s not exactly a fair choice, but technically there are mages who “choose” it. But after Cassandra’s personal quest, I’m betting that Tranquility will become a very rare thing.
@@xer_7438not all of them. Canonically, the right of Tranquility was supposed to be a death sentence kind of penalty to a mage, but now templars use it on any mage that doesn't follow their commands or fights back against them

Dragon Age: For a modern audience
Cant control companions, reduced companion numbers, limited ability wheel; these game developors are actually taking the piss now
It's really a shame that a lot of media on the Dragon Age universe is not in French ;( but thank you very much for your video!
So a dessert is defined by how much rainfall it gets, it can be hot or cold.
This is getting more ridiculous.. Now we see that Meredith along with Orsino at fault, for loosing connection to blood mage who killed Hawke's mother 🤦♀
The impression I've always gotten is that a mages country of origin doesn't influence which circle they end up at as greatly as we might assume. You've got to imagine that they don't want any one circle to have too great an influx of child apprentices at once. I think you're sent to the closest circle by default because that's the most convenient option for the chantry, but the moment it ISN'T the most convenient, I think they shuffle mages around pretty freely. I'm sure that a powerful family can influence where their child goes (that's basically the whole story of the creation of the Montsimmard Circle) but commoner parents probably get no say whatsoever. Wycome was probably the next closest Circle that didn't have too many apprentices, so Viv got shipped there. I'm sure that her move to the glamorous Montsimmard Circle was all down to her skill at political maneuvering, however.
I always figured Solas and Sera having a thicker body type than an elf inquisitor was because they were actually well fed. Prolonged malnourishment -especially in childhood- has a substantial impact on a body, stunting growth and physical development. We don’t know much of Solas’ early history, but if he was able to move among the Evanuris as one of them, then he was likely at least well off growing up. Sera was raised by a human noble, and has likely been stealing carb heavy foods from nobles as a Red Jenny. The Dalish inquisitor, by contrast, has been living a nomadic hunter-gatherer life in a world that openly mistrusts and oppresses them, surviving on whatever supplies their clan is able to gather in the wilderness.
I am devastated that I missed my chance to play this game. 😭
It’s so wild to me that the voice actor for Zevran is the same guy that voices the male “american accent” inquisitor. Lol.
Man thanks for taking one for the team. This one is on one of the lists I'm using to get through all the dragon age content before DA4 I toyed with the idea of maybe downloading that but I'm content just watching your review and the cutscenes.
Also 112 hours is wild. I spent 80 hours in Origins and I was skipping some things, 45 hours in Dragon Age 2 when I was dragging things out. My last playthrough of Inq took like 120 hours and that was me skipping fetch quests and being picky about my side quests - longest playthrough was 425 with being more comprehensive. So you're telling me a Facebook game took you as long as I spend on not exactly half ass playthrough of Inq???
21:05 "No, I just feel bad about what happened to your people" What the hell happened to the Kossith?
If they ever remake DAO, I really hope they make Stroud the Orlesian Warden
I think June could have been a a Dwarf that abandoned the deep roads and the Titans.
the game gon be successful got no worries on that. Need jeff to be right about late October release though. They got an extra 60 days now if they cant make a date they been aiming for awhile, then worry
F all that. Hope that boy Jeff Grubb right n its late October. If they aint hitting the ground running on monday they're trying for November which... yea no
I still chuckle every time someone calls Wynne "old." (I get that that's absolutely the vibe the game gives ... but finding out she was supposed to be around 40 years old was ... jaw-dropping.) LOL
cant believe you snubbed the absolutely essential golems of amgarrack dlc 😤 how else will we know where bioware reused the harvester model from
♥these videos are amazing - thank you so much for creating so much awesome DA content♥
Looks like fortnite, i hope there are bunch of emotes, multiplayer and loot boxes. Thanks for insight Shil Dirthalen
Great video! Sorry to ask, but adding in a little about the Awakening companions might be okay? Because, well, you know, DA2.
