Well I'm just coming to this now, but I guess it's been shelved - what a shame, such good work.

I know its going to be obvious, but for a newb to DATV searching the web for knowledge I came across these video's, they are all entitled CAT XX with the XX being a number. What does CAT XX relate to please?

I once played with the ZL2AFP software. 48x48 pixels @ 1fps B&W was fastest mode. I always wondered if reducing the resolution tot -say- 24x32 pixels á la Baird would enable to reach almost 3 fps with the same technology. That would be already quite more a moving picture.

Interesting to see inside transmitter room I wonder if the studio links are improved in it modern incarnation. Some serious power to run the towers sits so remote too. Getting thing to the peak must have been a task and a half

An excellent video history of this significant introduction of digital broadcasting that led the way ahead of many countries. Here in VietNam, where l have lived for 30 years l have watched the progression fron 2 camera program sets and loudspeaker street broadcasting - often in the form of 4 speakers mounted atop 50-100 foot masts (for workers in the surrounding fields) to these days where there are extremely high fibre optic cables from North to South carrying broadcasting and communications. In neighbouring Kampuchea/Cambodia broadcasts are carried by radio to multi-channel receivers similar in size to a smartphone. We have minority broadcasting in parts of the country. Every province has it's own broadcast facility which carries local news. Vietnam also has a couple of satellites that ensures the national multi-channel Voice of Vietnam from Ha Nói reaches every corner of the country as well surrounding countries (VN donated the transmitters way back) and even rents time on overseas countries transmitter. VoV rented time on CBC transmitters located in the swamps of Sackville, New Brunswick. Transmission of Chinese programming is strictly prohibited in VN and the BBC is also censored (available on the InterNet).

On google maps , The transmitting tower near Market Rasen LN8 6JT is labelled as "Belmont Transmitting tower" ...Im confused as you mention the transmitting tower on Winterhill as close to the village of Belmont .

I have noticed the co-incidental appearance of other transmitter site names close to other stations. For instance there are places named Membury and "Rawridge" very close to Stockland Hill.
@frankjohnson72044 ай бұрын
The "Belmont" site was simply named after a name seen on a house close to the site. The name "Belmont" made it onto an Ordnance Survey map, was seen by the site planners who assumed (incorrectly) that "Belmont" was the name of the area.

An Absolutely very informative video, I have been visiting Winter hill for the last 64 years having been brought up n Bolton, I remember my Father taking me up to Winter hill at the time of the air crash. But the thing that I find really disappointing about this clip is the reference to the FALL we are British ( not YANKS, Autumn not the, fall). Please let us keep our individual identity. But many thanks for a very informative clip. ( EXCELLENT).

The coal seam just 50 feet below the surface may come as a surprise to many. We think of coal mining as going downward, not going up a hill. The seams of coal are given names, and usually have the same name many miles away. The seam being worked at the top of Winter Hill was the LOWER MOUNTAIN MINE. :-)
