    LOVE THE VIDEOS and learning so much. I have a unique question on vacuum relief valves and whether they can be used on cold water supply line for draining purposes. I have a seasonal shed that I have cold water line run to with a sink. The supply line to the shed can be drained to the basement to prevent freezing in winter temps. When I open the shed sink spigot, close the supply at the house and open my drain valve, a vacuum is still created that is beating my expected gravity drain :-). I can go disconnect the fittings in shed to get the water to drain. Can I install a vacuum relief valve at the highest point under shed sink on main line that would automatically do this for me once I shut off the supply and open the drain in basement?

    And they used ring hangers too! I never see that. Normally plumbers use that cheap looking strap iron.

    You say "Any time you have a flat bottom fixture that's tied onto a kitchen sink on the vertical, you have to change to 3 inch". I'm kind of confused about that and want to understand it. Is there a code reference you can point me to that will lay it out? Thanks!

    Water continuously discharges out of the relief valve if the second check valve is not drip tight and backpressure is present. If the second check valve is drip tight it will not discharge. Water will also continuously discharge out of the relief valve if the first check valve is not drip tight and there is no downstream demand. A drop in supply pressure will cause the relief to spit and stop.

    Plumbers seem to be lacking common sense and situational awareness these days. Gas appliance connectors are frequently installed NOT incompliance with manufacturers instructions.

    No. They are specific to Massachusetts-(a custom code). The original version adopted by Massachusetts in 1965 was the UPC with modifications and amendments. The current version of the Massachusetts Fuel Gas and Plumbing Code no longer resembles the original UPC 1965 version and stands alone on-its-own.

    Its a great pass or fail Norman. I do have a question about a sanitary T to be looking straight up and cut over! on the minute 4:33. The “cut over” meaning “turn the flat vent below ground on straight up Sanitary T”. But the vent ll be below the toilet flood level rim, right? So, the vertical Rise on 248 CMR 10.16 (7)(b) doesn’t apply for battery vents? If i'm right the 248 CMR 10:16 (7) (b) 2. a. apply for it? I hope u understand my question, Thanks.

  • @theplumbingacademyinc.2209
    @theplumbingacademyinc.22092 жыл бұрын

    Yes, I understand your question. In Massachusetts battery venting below the flood level rim, or below the weir of a trap can be performed in limited application and with very specific installation practices. Depending on the fixture, or fixtures being served; floor drains, mop receptor and similar fixtures can be vented below the flood level rim, or weir of the trap serving the fixture as long as the surface area of the fixture to be drain is no more than 144 sq. inches.

    Blow down tubes are pvc here and pass code in Ithaca NY....

  • @theplumbingacademyinc.2209
    @theplumbingacademyinc.22092 жыл бұрын

    Interesting! PVC tubing has a maximum temperature rating-(usually around 180-Fahrenheit), this is well under the 210-Fahrenheit blow-off temperature of the relief valve setting on the water heater. At 210-Fahrenheit the PVC being used for the blow-off will become pliable, and in essence will melt-off rendering the relief valve dangerous and a significant scalding risk for anyone that may be in the area when a relief valve discharge occurs. It is so dangerous that the Commonwealth of Massachusetts passed a LAW-(following several incidents) that only allow the use of non-ferrous METAL tube or pipe to be used as the blow-off tube for T & P Valves.
