    This is so miscast. Terrible . As if that old fat Eight is enough Dad really can play a sex starved doctor . I can’t imagine any woman except for an old lady being attracted to him. He should have been the captain . Everyone is miscast . It was torture getting thru this show.

    I find these early Love Boat pilots and movies interesting in showing how they developed the idea for the series. The first one did seem to be more of an adaptation of the book the Love Boat was based on. You can tell that it was having difficulties of showing romance and love stories and trying to mix it with the comedy of the crew. It was like they were trying to play both straight as well as goofy at the same time. This pilot you can see more of a transition of how to make it into a TV series. It is interesting this one almost ditches the captain role. The first doctor just seemed creepy how he was played. I don't think the actor knew how to play him. The three key mid characters Doc, Isac and Gopher are basically set in this one. Making them in many ways the core. The cruise director I can see they were trying to make her seem more bright and cheery but I think were still playing around finding the right actress. I think both this one and the first they did have good writing for the romantic stories. I just find it so interesting how much this pilot changed from the 1st movie. Never read the book but it seems like they were moving more and more away from the book as they developed the show.

    OK -- was floating along in a gentle haze 'til [1:04:23] when saw a female passenger pick up what looks like a deviled/stuffed egg🙄 WITH HER FINGERS!! Don't know about public hygiene standards back then, more modern ships serve finger-food with tongs & are served by the Steward/Waiter! Though think have seen this type of non-tong behavior on later episodes. Anyway, I would NOT have enjoyed/eaten whatever food passengers were allowed to 'handle' themselves🤢, then or now, even with modern hygiene 'upgrades'!! BTW, this is my first time viewing this episode😲 &, other than the prior comment, enjoyed this episode 🙃-- have been a Georgia Engle👍 [Gopher's gal] fan from long ago!! 'nuf said, ALOHA 4 now...😉😎

    Great find. What was unique about this pilot movie (compared to the other pilots and the series) was that virtually the entire episode was filmed aboard the real Pacific Princess (except for the scenes that took place in passenger and crew cabins or the brief scenes when someone was in a cabin corridor, knocking on the door outside a room). Almost every public room (including the dining room), both pools, and many outside decks on the real ship make an appearance. Even a scen on the ship’s bridge (near the beginning), where the Love Boat captain gets a navigation briefing from “Mr. Crichton” who happened to be the Pacific Princess’s real captain, Captain John Crichton.

  • @willgray7272
    @willgray7272Ай бұрын

    Yeah. The producers of the first pilot actually booked a cruise, but production difficulties (they fired the director two days into the location filming) meant very little actual shipboard footage.

  • @KMSNY1
    @KMSNY1Ай бұрын

    Ahhh. That explains why the first one had so much done on set somewhere. Beside the truly terrible script, ho-hum acting, the lack of a lot of location filming made the first one truly awful. Kind of incredible another one even got made. Someone had a good feeling about it!

  • @willgray7272
    @willgray7272Ай бұрын

    @@KMSNY1 According to a couple of writers who pitched for the second pilot, ABC considered the original cut of the first pilot literally unairable, so the producers shot additional scenes and did a quick and dirty re-edit job (several botched edits in the finished product). They also said that the network thought the show might work best as an occasional series of risque (for 1970's television) late night TV movies (with some nudity specially filmed for European theatrical releases). But the gangbuster ratings the first movie got when it eventually aired convinced ABC that they might have a prime time series after all so they greenlit this pilot.

    Best quality I've seen online. As for the show itself, it's interesting to see the difference casting makes. The stories themselves are really no better or worse than those in a typical episode of the eventual series. But the "Love Boat Crew" just isn't up to snuff.

    As a self described Christian Rationalist I cannot fathom the ignorant discourse around the work of the late Dr Barbara Thiering. Her findings and conclusions are irrefutable and make way for a more truthful intelligent debate around both Christianity and Islam. More recent Carbon Dating results confirm key parts of the Dead Sea Scrolls fit within the first CE. All the so called experts are simply being arrogantly belligerent to protect their egos at the expense of the survival of true loving and inclusive teachings of the great Jesus the Man and Jewish David King. kzread.info/dash/bejne/o5uVzqepg86yhZM.htmlsi=_gxwG_yb6C6rRt79
