    How I'd change the rules: hide "pledges" throughout the castle and challenges that are items like shields, but they let players volunteer to become traitors. Traitors can only recruit players who've pledged, and a pledge gets tapped automatically if they run out of traitors before the ring of fire. This removes the pressure on unwanted recruits for both traitors and faithfuls while giving faithfuls more deductive power to figure out who the new recruits could be. (Who do they think found pledges and used them?) It also gives pledges and current traitors reasons to team up or oppose each other in interesting ways. They'll never do it, but it would add a lot of intrigue!

    It's correct that when there's one traitor left, you have to accept a blackmail or you're murdered. This is to discourage turning it down so we don't run out of traitors. Generally if it's turned down, they move on to another blackmail meaning hypothetically a bunch of players could get murdered in one night if they all turn it down. So it's not a perfect system. However in international versions they've never had to repick new traitors at random except in one season where a traitor broke the rules and just told everyone who their fellow traitors were.

    It wasn't an "unanimous" decision to vote out Jane. Donna voted for Noel and Noel voted for Molly. Noel also voted twice for Molly the week that Jackie went out. Noel might not be a traitor but he is not a very good faithful either. I've liked him in the past but I couldn't quite believe the rationale he used at the round table for why he didn't think Jane was a traitor: he basically said Jane was a rational player and hence could not be a traitor. This makes zero sense. If I was in the game, I'd suspect Noel not because of the death row nonsense but because he has a poor track record of either voting for traitors or targeting them.

    Why would they decline to be a traitor? They came to win the money. Of all the shows, Mark is the first faithful to ever decline and gone home. He should’ve stayed and went for the money.

  • @vncntd3962
    @vncntd3962Күн бұрын

    Mark declined because he rightfully understood that he was being set up for a fall. Could he have accepted the offer and tried to find a way to sabotage Jane? Yes, sure. That could have been fun to watch. But his chances of making it to the end, with or without Jane, were extremely small. (If Mark somehow made it to the fire pit finale do you really think the other players standing there would opt to end the banishments, convinced that Mark was a faithful?) I personally like that Mark - the ultimate game bot - decided that the best way for him to play his hand was to fold.

  • @zactacon

    What mark said was his suspicions of Mike to Stephen and Jane and one of the 2 leaked it and since Stephen was faithful it was likely Jane.

    That's right. The way Alex describe it made no sense (sorry, Alex!) whereas there was a rationale for Mark's argument - better anyway than the ones most players have used on the show. I'm looking at you, Donna.

    Hello boys. As always, loving the show. Yes, Traitors NZ is truly turning out to be the best of the franchise. As this season is of particular interest to me as it's filmed outside my hometown of Timaru. Timaru, Timaru, you're thinking. That sounds familiar. Yes, we also produced Aubrey Haive (worst drag name ever) who was in Season 2 of Drag Race Down Under. The 'manor' is Claremont Castle - which is currently for sale, so put aside those silver bars and it could be yours (see link below). And yes, Mount Horrible is the actual name. This is the country that also has Mount Bitterness, Mistake River and Mount Dreadful, so not so surprising. Timaru was also the location of the famous Thomas Hall poison murder case in the 1880s and Timaru Boy's High School is home to the 'Hitler Oak' which was gifted to a local Olympic runner at the 1936 Berlin Olympics. So that's that. Worth a visit! www.realestate.co.nz/42469286/residential/sale/222-mt-horrible-road-timaru-central And from your favourite news source The Spinoff: thespinoff.co.nz/society/04-11-2017/poisoner-the-story-of-thomas-hall Keep up the good work.

    I agree that the logic that Mike used to throw suspicion on Whitney was faulty, since lying about one's profession does not make someone a traitor. This alone would not have been enough to sink Whitney's boat. What did this, I think, was Brittany adding her own suspicions about Whitney on top of Mike's, alongside Whitney's poor rationale for why she thought Brittany was a traitor in the first place and her flustered responses at the round table in this episode. Although I wasn't necessarily expecting Whitney to go in episode five, I'm not surprised she was unmasked as a traitor: she was getting a lot of airtime, which suggested to me that she was going sooner than later (especially since her confident predictions during her confessionals were shown to be misplaced: the week she said that Brittany would get banished was the week Jackie went home). I predict that Jane will last longest of the three original traitors, but as long as Ben remains in the game her chances of winning are slim (since he thinks she is a traitor) unless she recruits Ben to the dark side - in which case I could see the two of them winning together. I'm not concerned about the fact that Ben has been getting little airtime in the last episode or two (and episode 6). This suggests to me he will probably make a deep run.

    I very much prefer having video 🙂 Y'all are awesome! Q: What am I missing here? Do you understand what the traitor's motivation is to murder one of the two who did the digging? Wouldn't they be in a more advantageous position murdering someone not being suspected? Seems to be they're losing out on an additional free roundtable (one gets banished --> is a faithful -->. The one remaining must be the traitor so gets banished next.). And a comment I thought may interest y'all: I happened upon a 25d old reddit page where Whitney was announcing the cast had dropped and a couple other cast members commented. Andrew said that he was surprised to find that no-one in the cast knew each other as that was rare for NZ. Assuming he is being 100% truthful, Molly and Noel may not be connected after all. Great theory though!

    With this US series, I have realized that this show is so much better when the faithfuls can't figure out who the traitors are. There was no suspense at all. All of the traitors were found out really easily. Another reason why the UK series is superior. Even with US series 1, the person who won came to a shock to the other contestants. I think the all reality version also ruins it. The forming of alliances based on what network you are on takes all of the fun out of it. These US reality stars are too dependent on what they think is gameplay such that they are actually all terrible at gameplay.

    You keep saying that Alliances don’t work on the show. But it’s not really true. You need people faithful to you to stay in. Plus it’s best to figure out who a traitor is before others and become their best friend. Then cut them at the end. That way they will protect you from murder. Incidentally apparently Sandra watched every English speaking version of the show in order to prepare. Plus she’s perceptive. So she knows the optimal strategy if you are a faithful.

    I hope Alex can persuade Ben to overcome his lack of enthusiasm for this series. We understand his annoyance at the way Kate was imposed on a second series, but we HAVE had fabulous ground-breaking gameplay with these contestants and that should be celebrated and dissected much more please. And don't forget the limericks! Peter's misinformation ruse about Bergie's shield was really impressive and drove the banishment narrative for the middle episodes. Arguably it outranks the shield-related gameplay in UK season 2 because it is much harder for a faithful to carry if off since they are much more in the dark than the traitors. You both did laud the innovative use of props for strategy planning from both Sandra and the snooker balls and CT and his slate. I also did actually enjoy Kate's pieces to camera after being made a traitor - at least she was being pretty open and showing her vulnerability while also having a pop at Phaedra for not having a plan and turning into a crap traitor all of a sudden. Mind you, Ben's theory that Kate has been a super-bad influence on Phaedra is an appealing one. So rediscover your enthusiasm Ben and read out more comments you've been sent please and don't overlook the limericks! Thanks for all the shows.

    That was pretty exciting game-play in this episode. Unprecedented having a murder foiled by a shield - is that right? I'm very pleased Dan is gone - his conceited pieces to camera were really grinding by the end. Always talking about how great he is on Big Brother and how he was going to "start playing" soon. His daft attempted murder could potentially doom all 3 of the current traitors, which will be interesting in itself to see how a whole new bunch of traitors adapt in their wake.

    It's interesting that you say that the US is a big genre on TV while reality TV is a footnote in the UK, because I've always perceived it to be the opposite. Reality TV shows like Bake Off, I'm a Celebrity, and Strictly Come Dancing, are some of the top watched and talked about shows in the UK. Reality TV in the US is much more meant for niche audiences and doesn't nearly get the viewership that they do in the UK. Shows like The Challenge, The Kardashians, and The Real Housewives caters very well to their audiences, but doesn't interest the larger population as a whole- Survivor and American Idol did 15-20 years ago but hasn't in years. The Traitors in the UK is airs on the free-to-air BBC and it was in the newspapers, cast members were on breakfast shows, etc. In the US, The Traitors is on Peacock, a paid streaming service that isn't even the most popular streaming serviec. If you wanted to hear about The Traitors in the US, you would probably have to go online and search for it. I don't think many people in my social circle have even heard of The Traitors. I think maybe you perceive it to be that way because niche audiences are really passionate, so they go social media to discuss it and it gets spread.

    My guess is they brought in Kate because Deontay left unexpectedly, so they needed to add an extra player to stay on production schedule. I wouldn't be surprised (I'm actually almost expecting) Sandra lays low in the next few episodes and then is a central player in the final 2-3 episodes. It's the way she played Survivor. But you're right- Sandra wasn't good at challenges on Survivor and tried to avoid them. Contrast that to Parvati, her Survivor rival, who was amazing at challenges and won several of them. To me, it really highlights how useless challenges are on competition reality TV shows - it's mostly used to fill screen time.

    Dan felt Phaedra was a threat to him. That she's too well liked and too smart. He had said in a prior episode he wanted her out.
