    can it go 120km/h for long distance?

  • @sergeantmagi
    @sergeantmagiАй бұрын

    No, not if you want the engine to last. Top speed is an indicated 137kmh. The speedo over reads, so a GPS 120 kmh is the redline rpm - not a great idea to do this long term 😕

  • @bikersquest

    I have a Suzuki Inazuma which is based on the same engine I believe and 2 up with panniers (same SHAD ones) and top box and it can hold 115 KMH (GPS) fine, there are occasionally hills which make it dip and full throttle is required (to allow it to slowly creep back up) and I've ridden 380 miles in a day on it holding it at that speed and high RPM (~9000) it can take it fine but obviously a bit more tiring than a bigger machine.

  • @sergeantmagi
    @sergeantmagiАй бұрын

    I agree, it will do 9000 rpm and hold it for some time. But with a red line of 10,500 rpm, I would have concerns about the longevity of the motor, if it spent the majority of its life at 9000. I think re-gearing might be an idea if this were the case 😎

    @@sergeantmagi I wouldn't worry too much I did a ~760 miles round trip from Scotland to London too I think maybe a small amount of oil might've been used but nothing alarming. I've added around 7k miles since that and it still runs exactly the same as it did new, now at around 22k miles. I just changed the oil yearly or at 3k miles as the manual specifies and checked the valves periodically. I've seen examples with 50k miles and heard users in Turkey with 100k, it's a solid problem free engine. I used to feel it was too short geared originally but it's because they factored in a pillion's weight too and feel it's perfect for all round use, gearing it up if you intend to go 2 up might make things a bit sluggish and the torque might be lacking for highways speeds.

    Great video and certainly a breath of fresh air compared to the masses of videos out there. So tempted to get one but my wife says I have to first get life insurance and a significant value... It's a very pleasant little motorcycle, I use it especially for long distance trips to go camping, its low speed on highways has been resolved by the adoption of a 15-tooth front sprocket (E9434.15 ) the maximum speed reached is 152 kilometers per hour, the motorcycle no longer seems to be struggling on the fast lane! do you know that this motorcycle is still the 3rd sale in Japan in 2024?

    A great detailed video on this bike, thank you! This will go a long way in my decision making In your previous video where you mentioned the other bikes that were on your short list, it sounds like we have similar needs. I have been leaning more towards the crf300 but i do worry that will be a chore to ride on the freeway. Some people have reported that the front wheel can bounce around but the idea of being able to tackle the harder tracks if need be is a nice peace of mind. I don't go out looking for those kinds of tracks but sometimes you need to go through them to get to a campsite Im not able to test ride anything yet as im on my L's but im considering selling my 4wd for whatever bike i choose as my boot is always empty and a camping trip will cost me $120 in fuel which stops me going out as often as id like to and im certainly not getting 615km to a tank that's for sure ahaha

    @@sergeantmagi Yup, I can't find anyone with fork and shock upgrades yet so that has to wait as I am lightyears away from being a mechanic to ''adapt' other parts. I was thinking only dropping the front 1/2". - 17" to 18" on the rear raises the bike 1/2" (9in from ground to center of axle vs 8.5in)> - 19" to 21" on the front raises the bike 1" (10.5in from ground to center of axle vs 9.5in) - the front gets raised 1/2" more than the rear, so a 1/2" drop would level the bike, pretty much keeping original geometry. - then again I am no mechanic and 1/2" could be all that is needed for a 40mph death wobble (NOT what I am looking for lol)
