  Civilizations need 2 3 or 4 small clans not to far from eachother .. plentiful water .. a source of food .. and a genius leader the idea man that delivers a good speach .. and time ... because even caral wasnt built on the first attempt... everything required to achieve this level of complexity in social structure and the knowledge of structural engineering would have taken generations to to build up trial and error in social skills and construction projects... i think above all you need a good amount of isolation a bubble around the original clan territories... large clans living too close would immediately try to take over in the process breaking the chain of generations that have built up this experiment... in the chaos knowledge would be lost progress set back to near the beginning the experiment would have to begin all over again until after generations of absolutely no outside interference a new civilization finally rises on solid foundations .. able to survive any attack able to survive even if the original city is destroyed or abandoned... all traits of this civilization carried within original inhabitants and theyre decendents that dispersed throughout the surrounding lands

  Don’t get me wrong; I grew up on and LOVE! Nova but it was mentioned more than once that we are “the smartest creatures that ever lived” and I am just so! not! sure this is truly the case. Hubris! is not a good or “smart” look for humans as we are now.
