Nice Video Gareth.
How dumb you gotta be rays are still fish lol
Definitely need to load up on blade spinners, plastic wormies, and go stalk some mullet in the Hayle estuary. Might even pretend they are big brownies!!! 😁 Thanks for sharing all this knowledge, Ben.
What a fantastic tutorial, I have had one or two out in the past on a float but have definitely picked up some great pointers.Really professionally done as well and as Jansen says below, this is the definitive mullet video.
excellent advice, thank you!
Wow!!!
This is gold
Excellent video, well layed out and covers everything. Many thanks🎣
Hi mate im fishing the camel estuary in wadebridge, really struggling i found it ran to fast for my loafer float tried on the bottom, any advice would be appreciated
Nice!!!
Believe it or not have caught them on banana skin before now love bream taste great
Very informative! I have seen the Shimano video too about ray fishing on the canaries, someone said it would be illegal to target them, is that correct?
Do you catch mullet on the polly joke side of the estuary?
Not better fish to catch, grate fighters. My pb 2.4kg! From Portugal. Here in uk never, never see one on my side of the country…
No mention at all of the importance of being in the right spot at the right time. I've caught all the ray species by putting myself in exactly the right spot at exactly the right time in the best weather conditions for each species. Locally I know these things but when travelling I always seek local knowledge and that local knowledge as done more for my successes than anything else. Knowing how to do it is not much use if you don't know where the rays feed and when they feed. Some time spent at home on research and finding local contacts is well worth the extra work. Why fish blindly in hope when you could be on a prime location at precisely the right state of the tide.
Have you ever tried mullet fishing in the river Severn around Sharpness. The water is always coloured and on springs the depth can be close to 9/10 meters at high water.
I fancy a pair of bass rods what rings are on these rods julian ?
Brilliant video as always I’ve been spinning with bass flys with bombarda had few smaller bass but now thinking trying for mullet on my local beach in the summer what size bombarde are using ive 20g floating and sinking rigs is that too much for mullet? Thanks
Hook size please and many thanks for your vid!
Very good vid. Inspired me to try
What a very good video well done
Gurnards ,the best in the fish soup .
Great fish. Do you need the net to return the fish, or is it safe to drop them down?
Hi mate, you mention other species will take this set up. Obviously bass and flounder. I'm curious about sea trout, the bombarda set I think I'm right in saying was conceived in Scandinavia to fish flies with spinning gear. I fish mainly around Anglesea and see 1000s of STs when lure fishing for bass. I've scaled down me kit in an effort to catch the ST, only ever hooked and lost a single fish. Have you caught or heard about anyone targeting sea trout successfully with this set up?? Great vids btw liked and subbed
Good insight to the range
Looks fun ..Will try that float/spinner/bait rig soon on Aussie Mullet
Fantastic summary ..We in Australia sometimes use a tiny bit of chicken fillet as well as bread as it works and stays on better for a longer cast .
Hi David here from Ireland. What is name of the natural bait you use? Power house …? Thank you
Here in Hawaii I noticed the big mullet tend to stay low and to the outside of the pile
With Ben Arnold...? Amazing film ...
Ben Stockley
Hi Ben I asked you off the back of the first video about Mullet in hayle I’ve had some success since using both float on bread spinning with isome worm but I’ve not actually had a thin lip could you suggest a mark near to me in hayle I could try ? Thanks Ben
The mullet fish and the cat fish are the most disgusting fish. I don't understand why my girlfriend who is from the Midwest likes it.
I'm just an over-head thumper , with the occasional rock back n forth if I'm feeling adventurous 😂 nowhere near a pendulum tho
Hi Ben, do you use a srt spring on your loop rigs as I didn't see one on the video Also what's the bs of the snoods, Cheers mate, Nik (WAC)...
Enjoyed this very much. Remember failing to catch mullet as a kid, they seemed to hustle the bread off the hook managing to avoid it. Unfinished business with this species haha!
Probably my favourite rods the 4&Bait mk2 use a pair of 13ft fixed spool versions along with a pair of 11ft AFAW Estuary rods for floundering.
What brilliant informative video. Living in Cornwall I had no idea you could spin for mullet. Never know we might cross paths on the camel.
Hi there. I’ve bought the mk2 6& bait multiplier the spigot is really really stiff and tricky to get it in . Before I actually start using it on the base on the diamond pattern is it very hard wearing as not sure of the longevity of the wrap . Must admit it does look really nice though
I've got a 6&bait 14' mk2 multiplier...just bought another but it's a Mk1 what's the difference anyone know?
Do you sell your rods to American’s?
Have you ever heard of an Alvey reel? I'd love to apply the Alvey style of angling to the UK's coastal waters at some point. Do you reckon it could work for Ray angling? If not, have you got any other suggestions on how an Alvey reel might be best applied to the UKs fishes?
Just bought the blue range 15ft multiplier rod....feels great in the hands but the sliding reel seat is a bit sloppy when you tighten it
can I use spinning reel on my tournament match mk2???
A fixed spool? How has your TM MK2 been rung? For FS or multi? It's not that you absolutely can't switch reels on either, but it won't be optimum. The wider line wraps coming off of a fixed spool could also cause a ring wrap on a multi rung rod.
I'd be very interested in your rods but the only thing that puts me off is 820g on the blank on the 6 and bait. If you was to release blanks between 3 and 400grams I would absolutely be able to purchase I'd rather not go fishing to walk away hurting like you said in your speech fella. @anyfishanywhere.
Totally get where you are coming from there in a world of modern very lightweight rods, especially in the 3 piece world. That being said, where the weight is in the blank makes a massive difference - I don't personally feel the weight in the 6 & bait, as it feels well balanced. I really do feel it when all the weight is in 2-3ft of glass in a tip. No mans perfect rod is perfect for another though - best to try a few and find what is right for you.
I got the big beach remastered built by dai and its a lovely bit of kit for fishing here in Iceland
Hard to get a better build too, Dai has been doing some lovely work.
@@HookpointFishingMagazine yes he did a brilliant job on the rod
Been looking at getting the 15ft fixed spool blue range...for chesil and South Coast. Would this be suitable? Want something with bit stiffer tip for tides. Currently using penn tidal 100 to 250 Gm. But really like look of afaw rods. And I've literally not seen a single bad review about the afaw range of rods. Any help greatly appreciated 🙏 🙂
Best bet is to give them a ring! They are so approachable. Check the video description for their contact details.
OK thanks, will do .
top fella Julian the man works very hard and sells very good rods
He sure works hard to bring us great gear.
i caught a cuckoo wrasse one time...
Well done, great catch from the shore.
Which bait you use in this video?
Hi, the fish in this video were caught on frozen razor clam and fresh peeler crab 👍
Best live bait for European sea bass 😍
Not a bad tope bait either... or conger... but Ben gets a bit twitchy if I eye up his mullet as bait ;)
