    Those wolves are tough.. I found they come out at night. Around 1 to 2a.m Seen many in Madsen. They come in to try and take out dogs. My border collie is pretty tough, she fought one off and had a couple small holes in her back. They eventually moved on..

    @@PatterningNature For a couple of reasons I prefer blind sets for wolves as opposed to large baits. But that's just me. When I approach a set and a raven is about I know fur is waiting. Then the raven finds out it will soon need to find another wolf to follow to locate food.

    @@PatterningNature Quickly stated: Wolves have primary and secondary trails, solo trails and pack trails. When wolves fan out to hunt, they have a trail THEY use. By they I mean the individual wolf. Each wolf has its own trail. The trail isn't written in stone but there are exact places THAT wolf will pass when traveling from A to B. Find that trail, set a snare, and you will have a wolf. The trail goes dead after although I have had some the were reused a few seasons later. A good location remains a good location. I have a channel called Musher's Tails. There are some trapping videos there and I explain in more detail.

  • @PatterningNature
    @PatterningNatureАй бұрын

    @@mushercdn To add onto that, I find Wolves, as well as Lynx, always step in the exact same foot hole (If its in the winter) when they walk their trails. I will check out your channel for sure!! I appreciate the explanation - I got a lot to learn but I'm glad I started hunting them the last 4-5 years because all of that experience will help me start my trapping off a bit easier than coming in completely blind & knowing nothing about patterning a Wolf.

    They definitely think about the diner lol there not much for deer feed you can put out that won’t attract a bear . As usual Franklin isn’t wrong but I’m thinking with just the one rub it was an immature buck or a big buck cruising through . Or mail with a dominate buck in his area he will make a run line anywhere from 10 to 30 yards apart , you won’t always see locking branches at runs either but scrapes almost always . Looking forward to the hunt brother keep the videos coming

    No issues with Crow's cleaning up the corn? I use that same apple corn from Thunder Bay feeds and the birds will clean up a 50lb bag in a few days. Even if I place it deeper in the woods with canopy cover they eventually find it

  • @PatterningNature
    @PatterningNature3 ай бұрын

    I have both Crows & Ravens around - I only ever had 2 Crow on my trail cam eating the corn so maybe they just haven't called in the reinforcements yet LOL The Deer have been consistent, morning, lunch time, late afternoon, evening & then again at night so the Deer demolishing the corn so much that maybe the birds are too spooked to come around? I will have to see how it goes moving forward... Might be worth tossing some of those Owl or Hawk statues up around the bait to spook off any other birds LOL I also thought about building a Deer feed station with a roof so that the Deer could come feed regardless of the season & not have to dig into the snow to feed on the corn underneath... But my fear is that it will be destroyed with all the Bears we have around here.

    Hey Joel! Looks like you're having way too much fun!! Typically, licking branches are found over a scrape, not a rub. I hunt deer almost exclusively with a compound bow for forty plus years, and I've never seen a licking branch over a rub. Now if you find a well used scrape, inevitably there will be a licking branch

  • @PatterningNature
    @PatterningNature3 ай бұрын

    I've ALWAYS mixed up the two... Scrape VS. Rub... But my Deer hunting experience is minimal, so that tells you everything right there LOL I did locate a scrape (On the ground in the dirt) last year but the licking stick seemed to be pretty darn high up, but... Maybe that Buck is just a big boy who knows!? I appreciate the correction - I gotta keep my eyes peeled as I walk the property more... I know the feeling about getting sick and ruining a trip. Last summer I was supposed to take a 7 day canoe trip and the day before I was supposed to leave, a nasty bug hit me. I think it was covid but I never went to the hospital. But a buddy stopped in on day 2 and I told him; don't come in cause I don't want to share whatever this is. He said; meh, I already have a cold so I'm fine. 2 days after that he ended up in the hospital with covid and pneumonia cursing me. I said; I told you I was sick!! But by day 3 I had to cancel my trip and ended up in bed the entire week of my vacation. It sucked. Hopefully I make up for it this year.
