    Consciousness cannot be fully understood using the principles of general relativity, as it is more related to emergence. I believe that applying the principles of quantum mechanics might provide greater insights. There is evidence of quantum effects in biological systems, such as enzyme catalysis and photosynthesis, which suggests that quantum mechanics may influence biological processes. Consciousness is considered an emergent property, and there are theories suggesting that even cells may exhibit basic forms of awareness.

    Fascinating. How do you keep up with yourself? I too have many sides of myself and interests that require different platforms. It's hard to know how much time to put into each project. I just discovered some of your work today when discussing epistemic humility. I'm currently in Utah. I work in AI, and I am finally reading Crime and Punishment. I am at work on a novella. I currently have 2 blogs, 3 X channels, and am going to be starting a podcast soon (addiction recovery).

    The system has to crash. Do you believe in mathematics? I'm not talking Terence Howard math. If you believe math to be the one constant in the perceived reality of humanity, then the current circumstances cannot be changed by voting. If you multiply a positive and a negative, what do you always get? You can multiply 1 trillion by negative 2 and what do you get? You just turned your positive trillion into negative 2 trillion. My point is this ...there is no lesser of two evils. Evil is evil. Corruption is like cancer and we are basically terminal right now. Jefferson said this form of government needed revolution every 20 years to persist. Franklin said they'd given the country a republic if they could keep it. That's gone. Nobody represents the people in DC. We can't even figure out how to use a bathroom. The people are stupid. There's nothing more dangerous than a stupid person. When I find myself in rooms where these topics arise, I sit back and watch. Typically, there are one or two people on a similar trajectory.stupid people will not go of their stupid ideas. We shouldn't be involved in war. There is enough for everybody to have all of their wants and needs. Homelessness, hunger, disease, crime, mental illness, and greed should have no place in our world. We are not anymore advanced than we were in the dark ages. In fact, we are probably more similar to a feudal system than a republic. We also never were a democracy. Democracy is probably one the most idiotic concepts known to man. I know a handful of people who I would consider worthy of voting and all of them understand it's an exercise in futility. We don't need this bloated pig of a government. What's government ever don't make life better? Not a single thing. You do come at this with rationale and noble intentions. You're close and you are the people we need to steer these conversations. You are going to get there soon.

    It's becoming clear that with all the brain and consciousness theories out there, the proof will be in the pudding. By this I mean, can any particular theory be used to create a human adult level conscious machine. My bet is on the late Gerald Edelman's Extended Theory of Neuronal Group Selection. The lead group in robotics based on this theory is the Neurorobotics Lab at UC at Irvine. Dr. Edelman distinguished between primary consciousness, which came first in evolution, and that humans share with other conscious animals, and higher order consciousness, which came to only humans with the acquisition of language. A machine with only primary consciousness will probably have to come first. What I find special about the TNGS is the Darwin series of automata created at the Neurosciences Institute by Dr. Edelman and his colleagues in the 1990's and 2000's. These machines perform in the real world, not in a restricted simulated world, and display convincing physical behavior indicative of higher psychological functions necessary for consciousness, such as perceptual categorization, memory, and learning. They are based on realistic models of the parts of the biological brain that the theory claims subserve these functions. The extended TNGS allows for the emergence of consciousness based only on further evolutionary development of the brain areas responsible for these functions, in a parsimonious way. No other research I've encountered is anywhere near as convincing. I post because on almost every video and article about the brain and consciousness that I encounter, the attitude seems to be that we still know next to nothing about how the brain and consciousness work; that there's lots of data but no unifying theory. I believe the extended TNGS is that theory. My motivation is to keep that theory in front of the public. And obviously, I consider it the route to a truly conscious machine, primary and higher-order. My advice to people who want to create a conscious machine is to seriously ground themselves in the extended TNGS and the Darwin automata first, and proceed from there, by applying to Jeff Krichmar's lab at UC Irvine, possibly. Dr. Edelman's roadmap to a conscious machine is at arxiv.org/abs/2105.10461

    Society is polarized, because people are convinced, rightly or not, but they are convinced, that this trial, like all the others, especially the ones coming from deep blue new york, are a political hitjob on one's political enemies. It's perhaps designed to convince those, who, like you, who will follow this trial looking for any justification whatsoever, to at least make it look more legitimate, than it is, while at the same time, completely ignoring the equally as damaging trials agains biden's son. I know this is emotional. It's emotional for both sides, hence the polarization of society. So pls just take this as a considered opinion, and avoid the violetnst.

    Equality is hardest. So is to understand & believe that there’s no one rule for all that suits our needs the best. The animal world is more equal rather than us humans. The art of effervescent living is what we could seek for. The art of free flowing like the river & finding our own shape as and where needed. I wish.

    I'd never heard the word "tentanyl", but it is in the source article as well as a couple others. it seems like it's maybe a different preparation of fentanyl used for transdermal delivery?

    The impact of a slow life, stillness in our daily life is so highly underrated. Yet those are the most significant moments that might create a spark in our thoughts, or show us the path unknowingly, or just relax our brain appropriately.

    It's interesting to see how human brain & mind follows others, set them as a norm in their own heads & fear to act otherwise, most of the time. In a world of "No one rule fits all", we human forgot the essence of liberation & how we ourselves could choose and be unhappy in most context. It's often funny how an invisible societal format regulates our behavior, impacts the mind.

    Wow. Can't express how this one hour seven minutes got me thinking. Specially the question at the end. I wish we gain the maturity and freedom to explore the value a certain type of prop/ sex doll could bring in our life too. It might actually help the section of people to curb the urge and might aid in giving the medical and psychology specialists a way to find a tool that could help them. A wilful participation in such research could be a welcome step (in a confined and well observed ambience). At the same time, this gets me thinking, there is a segment of people in our society who likes different types of pleasure, which might or might not include legal restrictions globally for various ethical and safety reasons. Is it time we think of an ethical legal practice and body of judiciary that's more humane? Is it time we unlearn the current justice and laws and learn, relearn a newer version that allows human seek pleasure ethically and morally? Consent is king, so is the freedom to live life just how someone wants. Only if a quantitative value didn't rule what's right and wrong for any particular society/ country, maybe we all could be happier (able to be and do just what we are). What if we eliminated right & wrong completely from society & focused more on the real value of living on our own terms (ethically, morally and without harming anyone)? Maybe the world needs to reset just so that human and animals could live a more purposeful life? Just like new words gets added in a dictionary always, a few words needs to go away/ be redefined - right, wrong, stigma, taboo, and maybe judgement?

  • @romideyy
    @romideyy8 ай бұрын

    At times I have felt this strongly - we, human very easily tag a word with negativity or positivity & then our mind sticks to that definition & feeling around that strong definition. What if being selfish could be the best thing we could do for ourselves and our near ones? Only when I've chosen and decided to take care of myself, is when I have consciously or sub consciously chosen to free up the time for my family & friends to be worrying about me. If we are selfish enough to take care of ourselves, know exactly who we are and what do we want, maybe a lot of blaming, pointing fingers at each other and focusing on only things like "i have done this for you, you haven't done it for me" kind of things might reduce. We might be more self reliant, absorbed, content, careful and free that we'd be able to take the appropriate life decisions for ourselves taking onus of it. I wish we could not get restricted in a definition only & let our mind go beyond the definition at times just so we can bloom with our whole brain and heart.
