Thank you so much Lloyd. This has always been my best option. Real time burning would be funny without an explanation to go with them and that takes an enormous amount of time that I usually don't have. That is the reason most of my videos are speed up. Thank you for the comment.

What are using for a burner?
Hi Jeanniet. At this point I was using a Razertip SS D10 dual burner. Then I changed to the Optima 1 single burner which is what I still use.

Hola Juana. I'm going to talk in English, if it's ok. So, this is a Razer tip SS D10. I used it for a couple of years but it started to loose power and then I changed to Optima 1. It's a much more reliable burner and it's cheaper. The website is: www.carvertools.com/op1.htm Pat is the owner as he's super accessible. Thank you so much. 🙏🙏 I would sai that, only if it's a very very light blue. Otherwise you can pierce the fabric. I would test it first if you could get a piece of scrap similar fabric. The fabric must have some endurance for this. Hope this helps.

Hi from France, i'm a watercolor artist ans sometimes use Wood for pyrography, i love too. I did'nt know, that it was possible on watercolor paper, what is your Wood burner & your tools for comparing to me. It would help me , thanks & the temperature you use for watercolor paper. Thanks in advance.
Hello. It is possible and the paper can take the same (or more) temperature than a soft wood. I use the Optima 1 with a temperature between 4 and 5 usually. Test it first on a piece of scrap paper to see the tones you can make with which temperature. Remember to put something under your work otherwise the burning will go through to the table. Nowadays, probably around €50. It all depends on the market you have and the materials you use. This is a notebook, not very noble medium. It's always tricky to put a price just like that. But hope you got an idea.

Thank you Bobby. I usually use birch plywood. The thicker, the better. It holds the pyrography better and it's less common to wave.

Thank you. 🙏🙏 I should but I don't have one. Specially if you're using a torch for bigger areas. It's normal for the wood to caught fire and release a lot of smoke. You should, at least, work in a well ventilated area for this.

As I know from my work with other graphic media, it is very useful for the flow to achieve the max with the minimum of tools. Hi Emanuela. You're probably referring to the dual machine. What you'll get on one side is exactly the junior one. And for that price I would definitely buy the Optima 1. Try to see more reviews and other opinions. I also have a review of the Optima on my channel. It's the one I still use and it's working like the first day. Hope this helps.

Hi Kathy. I'm using the 18M spear shader and the temperature was 3, if I'm not mistaken. I advise you to start low (2 for example) and increase if needed. Otherwise you can pierce the fabric and there's no turning back. Thank you so much for watching. Have fun.

Love watching you burn on watercolor paper. Is it hot or cold pressed? Is the pen you are using the 3-B? I think I need to order that pen. Excellent work!
Thank you so much. I always use hot pressed because it has less texture. It depends on the work you want to do. It it's something like a tree, cold pressed paper might even help to get the texture. I usually use the 18M spear shader and the PH23 spoon shader.

Hi. Unfortunately I don't have any substitute I can advise you. There are some videos that teach you how to make a home made machine. Just advise you to be careful. It's an electric device and you can get hurt.

Hi Tom. No, I don't heat the wire. Plugging it to the machine is dangerous. You can miss the right place with the hammer and damage the pen. I've had these tips for years and none of them broke.

I `ve tried the "no" heat method, and of course you do still end up with a decent Tip of course ,but I`ve found that the heat method does get the job done easier & quicker ,not that quickness is absolutely necessary, but for medical reasons with my hands ,I find personally quickness is more advantageous for me. I understand where your coming from with your comment however ,I got around that by using a cheap Chinese Pen and use that to hold the Tip while applying the heat , but I`ve not had any mishaps with accidental hitting of the pen up to now touch wood. .. I suppose Its all a case of being careful and being precise in what your doing if using heat method. But Both methods work of course. So thanks for taking the trouble to show your method as it gives people a choice to see which they might prefer..
Tom, I agree that heating the metal is the right method, of course. It causes less stress on the metal and it's easier and quicker, as you said, to get a good result. Im just afraid that other brands use 110v and in Europe we have 220v...
The high end brands have 220V version. You have to tell them in the notes section that you need a machine body with 220V if not available on the Website or get in touch with them before buying. I'm sure they will help you with that.

Hi Dana. Thank you so much. If the surface is not smooth, your burning will not be consistent and you won't get an even design. If you just want to accent the edges of the carving work, it's fine. It can be done, of course. Hope this helps.

Hi Clarke. Thank you so much. I've been using the Optima for some years now and it still works perfect. The tips I use the most are the Spear Shader (5), the bigger Spoon Shader and the Modified Writing Tip (9MS). In some specific situations like textures, I've also used the Ball Tip (5/64 M). But if you have to leave one behind, I would leave the ball point tip. This also depends on the type of work you do. Pat (the owner of the Optima) can also give you some extra help. Hope this helps. It's a very good machine and the price/performance combination is the best I've tried. Also remember to specify if you want the 110V or the 220V version when you order.
