    I guess I'm not that much a fan of pure purple or red purples. I tend to see the magenta (Barney purple) in them and don't like it. My favorite purple is a blurple color like the second from the right in the bottom row. Thank you so much for this lesson! It really shows you how unexpected colors can turn out when mixing them. Especially if you are not well versed in color bias and how that changes things.

    Brilliant - thank you! I'm just starting to use glazes and was confused if you could use different colours of glazes at the same time, and blend them together while wet. This answered my question!

    From my experience working with a lot of students and artists, I have met a FEW that just seem to be able to mix the exact colour right off. It is just an inborn talent. My current art teacher will look at a colour and tell me what to use to mix it. She is dead on every time. When I ask "How do you know this?" She replies "I just know. Always have, since I was a young child. I have no explanation for this talent."

    Ha, ha, yes, think i might have overcooked it. The video looks more intense than the painting in real-life, but sometimes in your painting you've got to go for it and see what happens, and have the courage to go too far. Will

    I don't think my comment was entered. My computer is too protective. Can being heavy handed affect painting and stiff wrist and fingers?

  • @lenaj2454
    @lenaj24542 ай бұрын

    I have been trying for 3 years but I feel I am to heavy handed i.e. my hand is tight and my wrist won loosen. I have had 7 operations all told on my hands. Could that be the reason or am just a tight, handed person? I enjoy what I do. I even listen to my favorite music and have tea. Yet, I can't get what I see in my head on canvass. Am I being to hard myself?

  • @willkempartschool
    @willkempartschoolАй бұрын

    It's possible that the surgeries on your hands have had an impact on your ability to control your movements as you'd like. Recovery and adaptation after such procedures can vary greatly from person to person. That said, it also sounds like you might be a bit hard on yourself. The creative process is often as much about the journey and the learning it involves as it is about the end result. You could try large abstract paints that don't require as fine motor controls, or acrylic pour painting, or mixed media and collage, or digital painting. Remember, the key is to adapt your creative process to your current abilities and find joy in the act of creating, regardless of the techniques or materials used. Will

    There's simply no one as good as you Will on KZread. Yes, there are so many great people who's art blows me completely away, but for teaching ability mixed with sheer talent; it's you. You've helped me countless times and today is one of them. I'm an amateur and LOVE tonal, elemental colors. I've been using black to make my greens and never knew about burnt umber vs black, but was so happy to hear the "blue" thing because other channels always suggest blue & it's just not natural looking. Anyway, thanks!

    Will, I wonder if you can give some particulars about this project. did you gesso the canvas first ? How many times? do you sand the canvas in-between gesso applications? The paint look quite runny and thin, is that do to water or some medium , which medium ? I know this is an older project, but I hope you still can see the questions and have time to respond, very grateful Will

  • @willkempartschool

    The canvas was a pre-primed gesso canvas. I then applied a coloured ground (there is an article and video on my website about applying a coloured ground) The acrylics are diluted with water for the whole painting, no mediums used. Cheers

    New subscriber here - I **really** like the way you leave your audio raw. For me, painting is as much visual as audible - hearing your strokes against the canvas actually helps me understand pressure and velocity of your brush stroke. Meaning, I can hear the difference between just getting paint on and blending vs. soft and careful strokes. I notice that you don't have a lot of mixing areas - you seem to mix-and-go rather than create a series of mixes. Do you find that is easier than pre-mixing a series?
