This is a copy of the original so when it was uploaded it probably had a slight delay. I don't think the original of the Today Show is up anymore. Glad it's here cause this is one of my favorite versions of it. Definitely the audio that came with the original. You can tell by snare tone towards the very end. Around 1969 Ray Price switched from being a first rate country singer to reinvent himself as more of a pop or ‘crossover’ singer. A string orchestra replaced the prominent fiddle & pedal steel of the Cherokee Cowboys and the ooh & aah background singers replaced a ‘Tennessee Tenor’ harmony. Ray in effect became a bland sounding third rate imitation of Jerry Vale. Toward the twilight of his career, Ray must have toured along the road to Damascus because he made an attempt to be a country singer again. He did toned down versions of some of his earlier hits along with some new material. One of his best of the newer songs is “Better Class Of Loser” for an example. This posting with Martina McBride is actually one of the most country performances of Ray’s later period. One of the greats of country music, Ray left a contradictory legacy. During the Rock & Roll onslaught in the 50’s Ray was almost carrying the flag for country music all by himself. Later, he helped shovel the dirt to lay country music in its grave. Go figure.

i'm just seeing this .knew dutch and saw him & the band countless times at the WYSE OWL ,in dartmouth ,[ gateway to halifax ] haha . - in the 70's & 80's ..sat in for his harp player one night , dutch played his butt off every show ..thanks for posting .
