Comparing the step from 2D to 3D gaming against a game with RT or play without RT is wild. 😂😂😂😂 Yes shadows are nicer and reflections are really better, but its a feature, and a realy expensive one, nothing more.

I have a 5800X3D and a 16gb RTX 4060ti and I play games like Cyberpunk 2077, Hogwarts Legacy and Dead Island 2 at 1080p and I hit 60 Frames Per Second easily. I have all the settings turned up like Ray Tracing, Path Tracing and Frame Generation and because the card has 16gb of VRAM it has never struggled to hit that target and I love the cpu and gpu combo.

I experienced this with the VRAM is not enough once with Jurassic World Evolution from 2018 with my HD6850 Cyclone 1 GB from the end of 2011, on the lowest settings. The RAM overflowed about every 30-40 seconds, and it lasted for approx freeze for 10 seconds and unlucky for about 20 seconds. It wasn't possible to play with it. I even thought about using my integrated GPU it can address max 2 GB. but then switching down the graphics for other games that require less VRAM, because the iGPU has much less power, or switching every time the GPU. And Jurassic World Evolution wasn't that great to put the effort in it. I just wanted to try it out and see if it worked, I once got it for free from Epic. Risen 2 in 2016 was the point I felt the need for a better one, and it ran OK in 900p with high textures. the GPU could have done more, but then that would be it became much too loud. I could have had it quieter, but 720p on 27 inches wasn't really bearable. The fan was locked at max 60% and the fps at 30, My three case fans and the CPU cooler were set to the temperature of the GPU, because it was the hottest part to support it. It was around 70 degrees Celsius. They had a temperature buffer so that it wouldn't be dangerous for them, if they were doing a lot of calculations, and still protect my ears. Compared to the others of the variety, it was the quietest. I suspect that it was the quietest one I could buy at the time that had more power than a passive entry-level card, and I would have suffered more with a different GPU or would have had to spend a lot more money on a special cooler for a more powerful GPU. Then I waited for new ones to come out that were quieter and the GPU market became absurd with extremely expensive prices and hardly any GPUs available and I simply didn't want to spend a lot of money on them and get little in return.

Nvidia has been pushing RT way too hard. Trying to push path tracing, when it only really runs on 4090 with FG on, is just crazy. It’s just offputting for the average gamer.

The strange thing is that I was enthusiastic about RT a few years ago. It seemed like it would really improve graphical quality a lot. But in reality the differences are negligible. You reallly have to know what to look for me it simply is not worth it.

The problem is brands like NVIDIA know all too well that 8 gigabytes isn't going to cut it anymore, they want you to go out and spend more money and have the same problem over again so it's a repeated process of a marketing scandal involving them deliberately making low end VRAM GPUs. It won't stop until people stop buying the damn things.

Its just frame interpolation. SVP (smooth video project) that converts video to 60-120fps in realtime is the same thing and it runs on phones! Its a scam instead of using unreal 5+ to take advantage of the hardware the devs continue to use outdated engines then inject frame interpolation to give you the illusion that the super high tech card is running an old engine at higher speeds when all they can do is use unreal 5

When I think of the "floor" for 4k gaming I generally think of what cards would play (most) modern games at 4k 60fps Basically something that could somewhat compete with something resembling modern consoles without necessarily breaking the bank

  • @backtoklondike

It was less it that was a gimmick and more that AMD marketed it really poorly. If they had been honest and showed how great it ran on budget cards and on board GPUs, it might've gotten better for them.

My problem is that I want to upgrade from a R7 3700x. Do I want to upgrade to a 5800x3d? Or just move on to the new AM5 ecosystem? One is much more expensive than the other as upgrading to AM5 will require all new and more expensive components.

I ran short on vram on Forza Horizon 5 with a 10 gig RX 6700. I have bought a16 gig card since then because the RX 6800 got really cheap. They need to back off the requirements for gaming. My video card has as much RAM and my whole computer had 5 years ago.

Honestly I couldn’t care less about the 5000 series. Nivdia is now making big bucks on AI now. Gaming is now a side bussiness for them. Hopefully more competition will make it fair for everyone. I would be down for buying an AMD or Intel GPU it if is decent.

I think with advancements in A.i. interpolation like lossless scaling, DLSS and AMDs Fluid motion frames the 4070 ti will last atleast 10 years. Lossless scaling is already proving to be quite useful since you can get ancient cards like the 1060 ti to run triple A games with double framerstates

I'm wondering how long my Arc A770 will last me. It's got the 256 bit bus and the 16gb of vram, and the drivers just keep getting better. I'll definitely be looking for Battlemage, but I'll still likely use my old card or give it to a friend since I believe it will most definitely still be serviceable for a long time. Initially I had a gtx 1660 when I built my computer due to budget constraints, but currently I'm rocking a 7600x / A770 looking at how long it will last.

so if I get a 4060ti, and build a pc around it at roughly 1000-1100 usd, you’re telling me it’ll be redundant in a year? Genuinely curious, I have been an Xbox player where 300-500 dollars gets me covered for 5-8 years. This seems moronic.

Agreed then that the 'poor scaling' wasn't a bad thing, but I do kinda wish basic memory had been tested. I have 32GB of 2400MT/s that I pulled out of my X99 setup when I put 256GB of RDIMMS in it that I'm trying to figure out how much performance if any that I might be leaving on the table if I were to simply reuse what I already have. I mean I guess it really is pretty commodity stuff and I could probably sell what I have now for a decent amount and just put the $50 down for a kit of CL16 3200MT/s stuff. Or I suppose, even better, sell my two 2x4GB and two 2x8GB kits that were in the X99 and use that to get 64GB. Oh the possibilities.

i have way too many texture mods at 2k and 4k on my skyrim modlist and I'm constantly hitting my vram limit in certain areas which makes the game freeze really badly for a few seconds. 3070 ti at 1440p, getting a good stable 60 outside and 120 inside when I'm not hitting the vram limit otherwise. such a shame, i had huge buyers remorse cause i love the card and its performance but the vram holds it back.

I looked for a video like this but to me is the contrary. I have a PC with amd 580 8gb and 3 monitors 24 in, and another PC with 1060 6gb with 2 24 in. monitors and one 21.5. Everytime I change from some screen to another in AMD I get a flicker and screen reconstruction which does not happens with Nvidia. Latest drivers, Win 11, 32 RAM and Nvidia works better. Strange.

Can you run a RTX 2070 super on this?

  • @albertmas3752
    @albertmas3752Ай бұрын

The simple answer is: it depends on what kind of games you play and how you like to play them. A 7800X3D would be the right choice if you play CS, Fortnite and similar games. It's a more powerful and will give you a gazillion FPS at the expense of your pocket. But it's easy to over spec when you're not realistic about what you need. If you like single player games where usually eye candy is more important than hundreds of FPS a lower CPU will give you all the performance needed for years and you won't need 2 jobs to pay for it.

I was very excited about RT. Got my first RTX card and spent the first week or so with RT on. I now turn it off. I can get great FPS and a really high quality image with DLDSR and DLSS. Overall, the image upgrade vs FPS drop just isn't worth it yet.

This is my setup now. 5800x3D, 3080ti, 128 gigs of ram, MB 550 gaming plus. I have 2 m.2 WD game drives black. I bought the cpu used for 315. and used gpu for 350. You don't need a 4090, you can still use a 2080, 3060, or a 3080 ti, you will be fine.

I only find 20-30% performance cards worth upgrading to if you're on the budgeted end. For example, I swapped out my 3050 with a RX 6600 and the uplift will last me for a long while.
